CaptOlimar30 commented on Captain Falcon, Lucina and Robin All Join The ...:

@noctowl Yeah, the way I phrased that was pretty sucky. It wouldn't surprise me if that was just one factor deciding to create Lucina instead of Marth at some point in development in addition to people's desire for more female characters and trying to create differentiable characters among other concerns.

Of course given that the characters were decided early on it's pretty implausible but I don't think he'd abide by early law on what characters are in if it was only to the game's detriment but I really don't know that. My only question is if it was Gematsu or someone at Nintendo who said the characters were decided early in development.

I doubt click-bait on this one, I mean I'm sure plenty of people are clicking regardless and accidentally inferring from Sakurai's ridiculous trolling that Chrom is playable is totally understandable, professional or not.

I still believe in the Gematsu leak minus Chrom though since Sakurai must've known about it for a long time and so changing Chrom -> Lucina during development and additionally deciding on Robin isn't that far-fetched. Only time will tell if Shulk and the Chorus-Men make it in.

CaptOlimar30 commented on New Fighter for Super Smash Bros. to be Reveal...:

Not to add to the ridiculous speculation pile but years ago to hype up the Diabolical Box I remember a tweet from either Level-5 or some official Layton twitter account that was written in Professor Layton's voice. He says that he was invited to some Smash Tournament and when he got there he found a cursed doll (GENO), a tiny boxer (LITTLE MAC), and a blue robot (MEGAMAN). Given that two of those have come true I'm hoping that Layton and Geno will be announced and that the Gematsu leak characters are also in it (SHULK, CHROM, and the CHORUS MEN).

If there are characters like Rosalina who Gematsu just missed and he also is planning on keeping some new characters totally secret to launch then the best thing to do would be to release these movies on non-Gematsu characters since he's known about the leak for a long time I bet. Of course, this is a lot of speculation mixed with hope mixed with love for Super Smash Bros and a boatload of other franchises so don't take what I say too seriously!

Here's a link which was surprisingly easy to find:

CaptOlimar30 commented on E3 2014: Nintendo Life's E3 Reaction - Live!:

I'm definitely happy with Nintendo's conference but they could have been overshadowed if it seemed like Microsoft or Sony tried. They both relied too heavily on pseudo-exclusive content for 3rd party games and neither had a big winner although there conferences were ultimately both good.

The games are definitely there for Nintendo and it was nice to see them focus on gameplay over CG. Star Fox and the two other projects from Miyamoto may seem pretty basic but they're probably bounds ahead of most of the announcements we saw from other companies who only showed cutscenes of their games.

Of course, seeing firm graphics and direction for the a new Zelda is always amazing and it's nice to see Hyrule Warriors start to come into its own too and surprises like Splatoon, Mario Party 10 and whatever else they throw at us before the end of E3 (probably just one more Smash character and whatever mystery 3ds game they've been hiding).

@Gma-X Yeah, I'm skeptical they would do that too. However I have at least heard rumors of a Classic Mode where it's more like the original Mario Party games. I'm probably just being optimistic though which is ashame since Wii Party U and NintendoLand don't really fill the need for good party Wii U games in my opinion.

CaptOlimar30 commented on E3 2014: Mario Party 10 Subtly Announced for W...:

I'm interested to see more only if it really is Bowser versus all the other players. If the other players are competing against each other and Bowser then keeping Mario Party 9's car movement system isn't going to work for the same reasons it didn't work last time. If they're all on a team though then keeping them together could produce fun results. They still need to get rid of linear maps from MP9 for it to be a full Mario Party in my mind though.

This game looks great! Hopefully it supports smaller local matches of 2v2 and taking friends online with you locally. I think there's one new IP left from Nintendo though since Shiggy's supposed to unveil one and there is still an unannounced 3DS title according to the Nintendo Minute show. That and actually seeing StarFox3D in action as well as the Smash Tournament and anything else Nintendo might still have up their sleeves has me still excited!

CaptOlimar30 commented on Ubisoft Makes Little Mention of Nintendo in Pl...:

3% is honestly not that low taking into account the fragmentation of the market and the number of titles Ubisoft has put on the Wii-U and 3DS versus X-Box 360, X-Box One, PS3, PS4, PSVita and online. Although I don't actually know the numbers if they only put 3 games out on the Wii-U and 3DS all of which are also out on other platforms with more complete versions and 50 out on other platforms that just aren't on the Wii-U or 3DS than of course Wii-U and 3DS aren't going to be a strong percentage of your overall sales, how would it be?

CaptOlimar30 commented on Nintendo's Plan for "Redefining the Definition...:

It sounds like Nintendo is hoping some QOL product will fix their woes while the Wii-U lives out its short lifespan and once it's OK to kill the Wii-U in two years because at that point its been out long enough they plan on doing so for some 'revolutionary' new console. I don't know how this could possibly be conceived of as good news for a Wii-U fan or a fan of Nintendo games in general.

CaptOlimar30 commented on Nintendo Looking To "Harvest" 3DS Success To A...:

I don't fully understand some of the arguments I've seen claiming that advertising will solve Nintendo's woes. I see more advertising for Nintendo's products then I do for anyone else's products in the gaming industry (read PS or X-Box) so why would Ninty need coverage yet Sony and Microsoft don't. The console is really just hard to sell in my opinion because of how different it is and I don't think that advertising fixes that issue. They should've waited until asymetrical controlling was a thing until trying to use it in gaming.

The Wii is a different case as it clearly translates to fun gameplay and that can be sold on a box cover or by the news which just ate motion control up for some reason. This is why I'd say the Wii worked even though it popularized motion controls and motion controls in gaming at the same time. The Wii-U failed at popularizing asymetrical designs in general and so there's no way people would think it would lead to good gameplay if they don't even understand the concept in general.

Despite all this negative talk I totally want Ninty to succeed and pull through. I think the Wii-U is a great concept in general and works well in games (especially local group play games). I hope they pull through but in order to do that I think they really need to convince people that it's a good concept for more than just games.

CaptOlimar30 commented on Satoru Iwata Speaks Of The Need To "Redefine" ...:

I can't say I'm too excited or unexcited over a QOL console primarily because we have very little idea what that actually means. My imagination of it is simply an extension of Wii Fit into a console that allows for the development of apps that regard health and fitness and can be extended to a non-wearable device (e.g. 3DS like thing) which dynamically tracks steps and can register all kinds of data both from sensing and user input. That doesn't sound up my alley but with a good enough design and not a thrown together concept I'd be willing to try it out. Hopefully it doesn't impede what I actually want Nintendo for and that most certainly is home console and portable console games of the highest caliber but only time will tell.

CaptOlimar30 commented on Ubisoft Expects Watch_Dogs To Be One Of The Bi...:

It's a new IP so it just won't sell as well as COD or Assassin's Creed by virtue of that fact alone. I also don't think it will be as good as people are hoping so that's likely to limit sales as well, although it's not really my kind of game so I'm not interested myself.

I'm actually more pumped for Sheik's announcement as a stand-alone player than Charizard's announcement as a standalone. Sheik's always been my main and the only thing hampering playing as her constantly is that I mistakenly press B-down sometimes and it doesn't do anything of use.

Now Sheik is going to be a fully balanced character on her own which is really just perfect! I can't wait to see how Sakurai comes to balance Sheik now!!

CaptOlimar30 commented on Super Smash Bros. Hitting 3DS This Summer, Wii...:

I'm actually thrilled about this. I worried that I would naturally want to play the Wii U version more than the 3DS version and since I'm normally near my Wii U I would never play the 3DS one. I do however agree that winter is later than I expected and much later than I preferred since I would've like having a summer to play it against friends on the big screen. At least I'll get a head start at the new characters over the summer while I can play Mario Kart 8 with friends!

CaptOlimar30 commented on Japanese Prime Minister Says the Country's Eco...:

The comparison between Nintendo jumping from Hanafuda cards to videogames and the suggested leap from videogames to QOL entertainment doesn't ring entirely true. The QOL and videogames markets are markets Nintendo is seeking to combine and have been seeking to combine arguably since the Wii and pretty blatantly since Wii Fit. If Nintendo made videogames about Hanafuda cards then the comparison would be a little more truthful.

However, there is a clearer message that Nintendo can learn from the Shinzo's interpretation of their own past. He points out that the important thing for Japan is to blend new ideas with old ones and I think this is something Nintendo should do within the videogame markets. They should look toward their past but also think about where they want to be in the future and I think part of doing this for them involves QOL, it's not a leap as was Hanafuda cards to videogames but instead it's a natural progression.

CaptOlimar30 commented on Zero Escape Series Creator Considering New Opt...:

Virtue's Last Reward completely necessitates a sequel for this series to even be considered a series in my mind. The game's connect so much it needs a true finale in the third or I don't even consider it worth playing especially since I'm fully confident he has a full good story developed for the third game based largely off the first two.

Here's hoping the third game is fully funded and released! As long as it is, I'm sure it'll be amazing.

CaptOlimar30 commented on Wii U and 3DS Nintendo Direct Confirmed for 13...:

The hype is so setting in. I'm strongly suspicious of a Luigi's Mansion for the Wii U given the success of Dark Moon on the 3DS both critically and popularly. Sakurai's announced a pretty good amount of SSB characters of late so I'm expecting them to announce it'll launch in an end-of-year month, say October, but hopeful it'll launch in Spring. Surely Mario Kart 8 will get a big representation and Donkey Kong Country Returns will probably be their main concern but I'm still holding out for info on X.

The 3DS side of things concerns me less since there are so many great first and third party titles I've yet to play on it that I don't really need any new announcements for it to keep me entertained with it. It'd still be nice to see a trailer or two of some of their quickly announced games like Triple Deluxe.

Only 3 more hours!

CaptOlimar30 commented on Feature: 10 Nintendo DS Games We Want To See O...:

Most comments have nailed most of the games I'd like to see on the WiiU: 999, The World Ends With You and Okamiden would all be awesome in full screen console play. But no one has suggested the best franchise ever: Professor Layton would be awesome if only to see those beautiful anime cutscenes upscaled.

On a side note, I'm surprised to see Spirit Tracks suggested as opposed to Phantom Hourglass since I figured most people highly prefer PH.

CaptOlimar30 commented on Satoru Iwata Announces a "Quality of Life" Pla...:

This is SO confusing it really is unbelievable. There must have been a massive amount of explaining by Nintendo for them to logically start talking about a QOL machine during a financial meeting.

They're a videogame company, if they just randomly start talking about fitness and showing graphics like that flowchart investors would've went mad! Why QOL? Why Nintendo for quality of life? What does this have to do with videogames? How is this going to be a profitable venture? What does it mean for the future of WiiU?

Announcing things prematurely like this is slightly ridiculous and I frankly have no idea what any of this actually means for the future of Nintendo. I'm running on close to zero love for Nintendo at this point even though I certainly tremendously respect their games.

Hopefully they meant what I've seen about going hard on licensing their IPs for 'digital goods' to studios that will make a 'win-win' situation for them both but if we don't see proof of this soon then I might be too heartbroken to continue.

CaptOlimar30 commented on Satoru Iwata Confirms That DS Games Are Coming...:

If they can figure out a way to decently account for the horrendous upscaled graphics then this is surely a winner. I'd love nothing more than to play the Professor Layton's on the TV. Honestly if the 3DS library also opens up on the WiiU (although that's highly unlikely and probly makes no actual business sense) I'd be happy forever!

This ad really does cover all of the bases that leave people so confused about the Wii U. Hopefully they can get this message across to a better audience than NintendoLife and people who seek out commercials on the internet though because I don't think that's the audience that needs to know this info. But I'm sure they'll manage, they at least understand most of their shortcomings at this point and with this ad and the last Nintendo Direct I have more faith than ever.

Calling the Wii-U the system for core gamers was definitely a mistake on Nintendo's part but I do believe it can still be a system for core gamers if Nintendo releases the big games we all want since their console is so unique when compared to the PS4 and XBox One.

@banacheck I agree, PS3 games tend to be overgeneralized but unfortunately most of the titles you mentioned underperform in sales although they are certainly as simply magical and fun as Nintendo's games. Nintendo isn't performing as well as they should either so the worry seems to be that tastes have moved on from having a fun time to having a hyper-realistic time which I think we all hope isn't the case.
