Still waiting for that killer feature to get a Wii U. I love my 3DS and certainly knowing that games play across all devices would be an interesting one. Knowing that future Nintendo consoles would support that too would be even better.

Weird. Are we really basing the success of the Wii U on what day Mario is released? If consoles and games were impulse purchases then yes, the day they get released on could be critical, but their not. New consoles are an investment and new games are too but in a lesser extent.

These video feels like it comes from someone who isn't a "gamer" and therefore not invested in any particular "brands". The other cnet felt like it was coming from a gamer (with baggage). Interesting takes.

I have this on my phone too, thanks to the wonderful Humble Bundles a few years ago. Really wanted to have this on my 3DS, I though the 3D effect would be wonderful.

It sounds entitled. "We're so special so if Nintendo don't treat us like princesses we're not going to their party. Ever. And they'll party will suck. Because we're not there." Though I have liked Bethesda's games on the PC it's just disappointing to hear they won't even consider the Wii U.

But sadly he's probably right. Nintendo need to be bending over backwards to get these guys and others on their console because it's going to make a massive difference later.

cammy commented on Say Hello To The Nintendo 2DS - A 3DS without 3D:

Given the price... this could be quite clever. My wife and my daughter claim they don't like the "3D" of the 3DS and it's also under the €100. I could imagine buying it for my wife to play pokemon X/Y on or even considering it for my daughter's next birthday (it's within her gift budget).

Certainly as a parent, I'd be more okay buying a €100 device for my 6yo son to play with then buying him a €200+ one.

Interesting. I did like the ebook app on the DSi. It really depends on what sort of catalogue they have and prices, but combined with MiiVerse and the 3DS form factor as in holding sideways was nice on the DSI was a nice touch, this could be quite nice.

This. This would make me buy a Wii U tomorrow.

I know Monster Hunter isn't Nintendo but as an example my ultimate game right now would be something like Elder Scrolls Oblivion with Monster Hunter's combat system. An open world with branching storylines, immerse character development and fun clever combat mechanic.

I find it strange that Nintendo are trying to make the Wii U a console that appeals to "hardcore gamers" but then sticks with updates to their classic franchises and leaves actual "hardcore gamer" titles to third party.

I'm not sure I agree with the guy's definition of "mature" and "adult" as many commentators have pointed out that a story with fantastical elements does not mean it can not deal with heavy themes (in fact this is one of the best things about sci-fi and so on dealing with bigger issues through metaphor).

However I do think there is a lot of growth that can happen in computer games. Just look to the choice in boardgames and tabletop roleplaying games. They have their share of the silly and fantastical but also more "real world" inspired stuff and games that purposely challenge players. But what form it takes in computer games is a very big question with a lot of guesswork and risk.

cammy commented on Talking Point: The Download or Disc Dilemma:

I still buy cards because ultimately the cards are cheaper than the downloads even when I'm ordering on line. MH3U was €7 cheaper ordering from Amazon UK with delivery to Ireland then downloading (also cheaper than actually buying it in a local shop too) and €7 isn't worth the "convenience" of downloading, seeing it's also tied to the device. I like the idea of the card being separate from the device because I've had multiple Nintendo devices damaged over the years.

Now if Nintendo had a cloud service where it backed up my save data and downloads and I could just switch device and still access it all... I'd be more willing to pay the extra €7... because you can loose a card!

Reading between the lines of his statement, it feels like the guy doesn't like Nintendo and so is dissing on everything Nintendo does differently. I wouldn't pay a moments attention to his opinion on which console is better.

I've had two cases with Nintendo Service, the first was when my Wii got damaged and stopped playing disks. They fixed for free out of warranty - so that's cool.

The second time I've had numerous calls and no resolution. They are very friendly on the phone and I appreciate that - but it's been over year and I'm still waiting for the 3DS I won from their promotion. All they keep telling me it's "high priority" and that someone will call me back in a week... and nothing. It's kind of depressing to hear how good they are in every other aspect. :|

I loved the SP game and only ventured online a few times. I found it a bit bewildering but I guess I don't have that much experience of online games. I had vowed to get a USB keyboard and go back online with MH, but never got around to it.

It looks fun. I'd imagine it looks quite bright on the 3DS screen. The new weapons look intriguing and the spider monster looks like fun. I wonder if there is a European release planned and if it will handle online play though?

cammy commented on First Image of Wii U eShop Surfaces:

It's very hard to tell from the sample. Thankfully it isn't the eShop scaled up to HD, that wouldn't work. With a HD screen they should be able to use it in more inventive ways than with the 3DS's smaller screen.

I thought this was going to happen. I think this was mentioned in some of the early Nintendo Directs about eShop. I was certainly under the impression it was going to happen.

And yes, it's a great idea.

I am intrigued. I like the idea of a fighting game with big robots that turn into cards, hits that nostalgic 90s child in me. But I'd have to be getting a Wii U first and it's not going to happen till next year for me.

I had a white DS and then a white DSi and was very happy with it. I thought White was the classic "nintendo" colour. (I ended up with a "red" 3DS, which I call ginger-colour, to match my red hair. Nobody else finds that funny.)

cammy commented on Resident Evil Director Wants To Make a Monster...:

I've mixed feelings about this. MH is definitely a great world to make a movie in, particularly as writers are not constrained by having to use an existing plot. All they need is some of the monsters, a bit of the world and a neat set of heroes.

... but I've see the Resident Evil movies and despite enjoying them in "this-is-so-bad-it's good", that style of movie will only make a mockery of MH, not do it any justice. It'll be an over-the-top plot about the end of the world... with ridiculous characters... when all you want is to see some monsters being bashed by competent heroes and a bit of a emotional buildup.

Personally I just can't get the same level of intensity playing mobile phone games compared to playing good games on my 3DS. There is a certain race-to-bottom with mobile phone games... there is like 10 version of Angry Birds there on the Android market for example. Making games for the handheld market you know you've got a smaller market... but they are willing to pay and pay significantly more for a good game.

What a neat idea. I have fond memories of programming in Basic on the Acorn and Electron. But the keyboard input might be a pain. I wonder can you modify the source files on the SD card offline and then upload them to the game?
