A lot of Nintendo fans freaked when GameCube compatibility was dropped from the Wii. People even complained about Wii U not having GameCube compatibility! This guy is seriously out of touch with what gamers want. He can quote his 5 percent, but I guarantee not having 360 compatibility will hurt XBox One.

Burning_Spear commented on Talking Point: The Wii U's Next-Gen Challenge ...:
Wii U is already at a significant disadvantage because Nintendo royally screwed up the launch and allowed six months of near-total negativity. The non-loyalists — the ones who will truly choose the console they deem best — are already making decisions based on what MS and Sony have promised versus what Nintendo has failed to deliver.

@Bengals76 I've had Wii U since launch, and it has logged fewer hours than my DS and DS Lite, not to mention my Wii and 3DS. Shouldn't Nintendo be releasing games to get the lens dirty before they release a cleaner?

Nintendo's new console is an "extension of their last console" but PS4 and XBox One are not extensions of their predecessors? To me, Wii U represents the sharpest turn by any of the three new consoles. Of course, he used that word "powerful." Why use your imagination when power is available?

Burning_Spear commented on Miiverse: Super Metroid - Too Taxing For Today...:
There was no Miiverse when I played the original Metroid, so I just found a piece of paper and some different colored pens and made a map. I'm sure I could have found one on the Internet, but doing it myself was much of the fun of that game. Sometimes even the smartest of people have brain locks and need a hint, but Metroid is a game that, by its nature, requires you to think and solve problems. If you remove that by having someone do the thinking for you, you may as well simply let them play the game for you too.

I get this with some of the younger people who work for me. I try to teach them how to do the job, but they're more interested in simply getting the answer to their immediate problem.

^^^ Don't count on buying too many animals in this version. And you only get two crop types per season.
#23
Burning_Spear commented on Harvest Moon GBC Sows Its Seeds in North Ameri...:
@berzeker99 It is a very, very stripped-down version of the original, which itself is merely a shell of all of the games that followed. To be precise, in the GB/GBC game they removed entire features, such as the town and wooing a bride. This game is really not a good ambassador of the series. I'd only recommend it for HM vets who want the nostalgia of it. If you can afford $15, buy Magical Melody for Wii off the Natsume Web site. That's the most representative version of HM. It has all of the elements and in great balance.
#24
Burning_Spear commented on Harvest Moon GBC Sows Its Seeds in North Ameri...:
@berzerker99 Always willing to help someone interested in HM. The best starting points would be Magical Melody (GameCube/Wii), Harvest Moon 64 (N64), the original SNES (available on the Wii Virtual Console), Friends of Mineral Town (GBA) or Back to Nature (PlayStation/PSP).

Burning_Spear commented on Nintendo Has A Sense Of Humour About Poor 3DS ...:
The XL's battery life seems OK to me. It's a little unfair to compare it to older systems that required less from the battery. And from what I understand, the Vita is even worse. This is just what we get these days. My iPhone's battery life is much shorter. However, I don't understand why they can't make a backup device that you can charge up and use when the red light appears. Not like a power grip but just a little credit-card-sized thing you could hook into the power jack. When I go to the Caribbean later this year, it would be nice to be able to play in the airport and during the entire flight, but that won't be possible unless I play on brightness level 1. Maybe not even then.

If the Wii U VC had launched with the same number of games but Yoshi's Island and F-Zero GX in place of two of the NES titles, people would have been ecstatic. How much more work would that have required? Really? They couldn't have had one guy working on those two games? So we're going to sit through two or three years of watching them rebuild the same exact VC you can access in Wii mode?

I think the Vitality Sensor was just Nintendo toying around with an idea. I think, one way or another, we were led to believe that it was much more of a possibility than it really was. I'm sure there are a hundred others that we never hear about.

It's not. It's just not EA's obligation to throw money at Nintendo's struggling console.

Burning_Spear commented on Madden NFL Is Skipping Nintendo Systems For Th...:
@LDXD EA was in better shape when the 360 launched. It could afford to invest for the future. And that was different management. They reorganized a month or two ago, and those things are usually accompanied by a clampdown on expenditures.

Burning_Spear commented on Madden NFL Is Skipping Nintendo Systems For Th...:
@Peach64 is right. EA has no obligation to support Wii U. (Let's forget, for the moment, that the company sent some empty suit on stage at E3 2011 to pledge support for the console. As soon as the ice cream and cake were gone, so was that guy.) This is money and business. EA is struggling, and it needs to be prudent with its investments. No one is going to jump their claim in one year. The market will still be there a year from now. There are only 3 million Wii U consoles out there, and how many of those people are football fans and fans of Madden? It doesn't make sense for EA. This is on Nintendo for not making the console attractive to developers and gamers. This console has been on the market for five months, and all we've gotten are promises of how great things will be. Don't get me wrong, I own it and love it, but Nintendo has mishandled this from day one and is paying the price with every cancellation.

@Ledreppe I think @Ferthepoet is correct, at least to an extent, regarding the controller. I think there are a great many people who consider themselves hardcore gamers and view the GamePad as a contraption that gets in the way of using the same controller to play the same shooters. They just want the same experience with better graphics. Most of us see it differently, but a lot of those other people are out there.

They presumably have no major hardware announcements, so it wouldn't make sense to have a lavish presentation. It might even have worked against them if they made a huge presentation to announce games, given that Sony and MS will be showcasing their new consoles.
