Brian1010 commented on Talking Point: The Wii U's Third-Party Concern...:

@Doma
Coming to a Nintendo article to pimp the PS4 is questionable, especially since it doesn't sound like you appreciate Nintendo games in the first place (dismissing them as mere remakes and casual bs), but the Wii U and 3DS offer distinct experiences that make owning both worthwhile. Nintendo has far more IPs that have been around for far longer than anything Sony has in their stable, so naturally there will be a lot more iterations of those franchises around (especially since there've been two hardware pieces to supply for a couple decades now). Of course, they're not the only ones to milk their franchises, either.

Indeed. I've noted the same thing recently...the 3DS is proof that a platform can do well on the strength of first party titles alone, after it was left for dead (remember all the talk about dedicated portable gaming going the way of the Dodo). Third party offerings have been meager, especially compared to the support the DS received.

Brian1010 commented on Indie Developer Explains How Nintendo Made Him...:

For me, too, the appeal of the GamePad lies with the ability to play off TV. I didn't think it was that big a deal before I bought the system, but boy is it useful...in fact, some games are better suited for it (like Little Inferno...no reason to use the TV if you're playing with the Gamepad). The flexibility you have with control schemes is a huge plus, imo, and not something you can get on other platforms.

Anyway, good for this dev, and if they put their game on Wii U (and it's good, natch), I'll be glad to support it.

Brian1010 commented on Impressions: The Best Buy "Nintendo Experience":

I went to the event closest to me (Charlottesville, VA) on Saturday, but didn't sample any of the demos despite the light crowd there. It was attracting curious shoppers, though, which was the point. To those who ask about eShop demos, they're trying to get those that DON'T have a Wii U yet interested in the system. Plus, I'm pretty sure Best Buy wanted the foot traffic, and wouldn't have agreed to this in the first place if Nintendo had also put demos online. And frankly, I daresay most Wii U owners will be getting those games anyway, which they also undoubtedly realize (I know Mario Kart 8 and DK are day one for me, anyway).

Brian1010 commented on Talking Point: Nintendo's Wii U Lineup Makes C...:

I've not understood the criticism over what they showed yesterday, frankly. Everything looked fantastic, imo, and my only disappointment stemmed from having to wait for them all. Plus, we know other games are coming...in the meantime, they're trying to drive adoption by the masses. A new Metroid would've been cool, but that won't sell as well, or have as much mainstream appeal, as these other titles. Sometimes I think we believe we're representative of the average consumer, but we're not...Nintendo's job is to push out software that appeals to both, and frankly their lineup does so much more than the plethora of shooters and racers everyone else unveiled.
