Honestly, as disappointing as it is, since this game will probably never see the light of day here, and since it really isn't a big title by any means (I hadn't heard of it until this article) I'm not really bothered by it. It is unfortunate, and it's silly that they don't just make it an option. But I've stopped depending on Nintendo's head office to actually line up with any forward thinking. They're hopelessly stuck in the past, whether that be with regards to political issues or online functionality on their systems
I am very pleased to see that a majority of the responses on here are positive! Way to go Nintendolife, it is reassuring to know that I am (mostly) welcome here! Unfortunately it can be hard to tell in the gaming world...
The thing is, Nintendo is making some poor decisions when it comes to gaming trends and how they are developing their consoles and treating their customers.
BUT
This doesn't mean they're doomed to sink. For some reason whenever anyone looks at gaming, they seem to think it's this market where one mistake will sink a company. Trust me, we're NOWHERE near the games crash of the 80s, which, by the way, Nintendo was part of saving the world from.
Yay! I liked Bookstore Dream quite a bit! Will definitely consider getting Publisher Dream! I hope it's similarly priced and also has a nice low block size!
Iiiiii am pleased with everything I saw in the trailer. I've never really tracked the developer's work, all I know is Eternal Darkness was amazing and a sequel, even if it's a "spiritual" one is fine by me!
@shinesprite - I think they mean to say it is the second to be an EXCLUSIVELY digital game. If we go by your logic, then it's technically 4th, as DK94 is also available for download!
SO excited for this game! I agree with @SparkOfSpirit though, it would be cool to have another DK94 style game too, but I love what they've done with this series regardless. Will definitely be getting this at launch!
Damnit, I wanted this game so bad back in the day, I used to talk about it all the time, but I don't really care for what it looks like NOW. I hope they will eventually go back to what they originally designed, but I'm not holding my breath
You know what would be awesome? If instead of just bringing back Square games, they put some effort into bringing back some Enix classics. Like BRAIN LORD! or The 7th Saga! Would love to see them either remake or make those available on virtual console...
One thing I'm a bit confused about... what Saturday morning cartoons have you been watching exactly? This story is so full of heartache... I can't think of any kids cartoons I've watched like that!
Just curious: you mentioned the length of the game. Just how long is it? I think I will be buying this immediately without much consideration, but I would like to know how long you'd say the main story is, approximately.
Here's the thing though: if you take a look at the HUNDREDS of games available for PS2, XBox, PS3, or XBox 360, how many of them would you actually buy?
People always complain that the Wii had "no games" and that the Wii U will have "no games". Generally what people mean when they say that, is that it has no games THEY plan on buying. But personally, I would rather a Nintendo console have a bunch of quality games that I'm interested in, then have a massive library where maybe 1/4 of the games are good. There is less selection, yes, but quantity =/= quality. Sometimes LESS IS MORE.
People just need to REALIZE what's available. I have so many friends who never play their 3DS, and haven't touched it in months, but what do they have? Super Mario 3D Land, and Mario Kart 7. They aren't even aware that there are tons of awesome downloadable games and downloadable retro games. I almost have 100 games on my 3DS already - and I keep the system on me AT ALL times. When I explain to people that I have 100 games in my pocket 24/7, then they kind of realize "Hey, I guess the 3DS does have something to offer". Yet even then they still seem to show know interest in checking out what the eShop has to offer. Meanwhile, they will have a bunch of games on their iPhone or Android.
TL;DR: I think the big issue here isn't that there isn't enough available, it's that people aren't AWARE of just how much IS available. Once they knew, I imagine they would be more interested.
I honestly think dropping the review score would not be a bad idea. I've never on here seen a reviewer say "I really hated this, this, and this about this game. But I think it deserves an 8/10." Obviously, the score is always directly linked to what they thought of the game, and it's an entirely subjective opinion.
I think what matters more is WHY the reviewer did or didn't like it. For the sake of "convenience", someone reading who does not want to read the entire review, could just jump to the "conclusion", to see a summary of what pros and cons the reviewer felt were present.
To be honest, I think having a score system at all just ruins the purpose of reviews. Because now people will simply go to a review, jump down to the score, see it's a 4/10 and go "Oh well, that game sucks. Pass." I think people would be provided a better service if your reviews encouraged them to actually look for WHAT the reviewer SAID about the game, what they liked or didn't like, and what the key features, pros, and cons were about the game. This way they can determine how those things compare to their own tastes.
@NintendoFlow: I think it's meant to be awkward, since you know, it's based on a video game that is unnaturally bright and cheery where everyone is super happy haha
I don't understand why everyone on this site hates randomly generated levels so much. Those three words basically told me that I will be insta-buying this game.
@RenegadeJools - I can certainly accept your apology! I think the main fear here is that your fans feel like even if we do continue to support you, it won't be enough, and I think we need some reassurance of that. I would honestly be surprised if Mutant Mudds 2 isn't AT LEAST as succesful as Mutant Mudds - I don't think piracy will have a big impact there. BUT, we could debate that all day and get nowhere, so I guess we'll just have to see what happens! . I certainly hope it does end up doing well for you!
@sweetiepiejonus - I mean that calling people crybabies (or saying they SOUND like crybabies) or saying you "dislike" someone you don't even know based on some comments they made online isn't very productive conversation/discussion. Anyone who reads your posts can certainly see that they are hateful, or at the very least, hostile, which is why I assumed you were making them out of anger. If that's just how you debate then I fear what your reply to this post will be lol
@sweetiepiejonus - I understand that you feel angry over the subject, discussion of piracy and copyright law in general gets me feeling very heated as well, but please try to remember that the person/people you are addressing and talking about are still people. How would you feel if some comments you made lead to a bunch of people outwardly saying they hate you and attacking you on a gaming website?
@RenegadeJools - I'm struggling to find the proper words to really... explain what it is I'm thinking right now in response to your comment and the comments that were made that sparked this discussion.
I think the main problem here is that when you say things like "It really depends on if the piracy market is easier to access than the eShop market." or "What this means is if we cannot make money from developing games we can no longer develop games. That is what can happen if piracy gets bad.", you sort of leave your fans sitting here thinking... "But... I was going to buy the game anyway."
While we understand that OTHER people may end up pirating the game, it feels like your assumption here is that if it's easier to get it for free, everyone will. This makes your fans angry because we have no intention of pirating Mutant Mudds 2. We're trying to support you and your statements continuously sound like you're assuming the worst from us.
@RenegadeJools - I certainly agree with you that the DS pirating situation got out of hand and really harmed the market, but I find it hard to believe that facts about the DS retail market can be applied to the 3DS eShop market.
Do you really think anyone would be unwilling to pay 2 - 10 dollars for a game and would instead pirate it? More importantly, what were the sale figures on Mutant Mudds like? Do you think anyone who purchased Mutant Mudds will be unwilling to pay for Mutant Mudds 2? I find it hard to believe that pirating can severely harm a market where games are offering great quality for such a small price.
@theblackdragon - Haha you cannot be serious right now. Travelling to another country is not simply "going out of your way". I'm impressed that you live the kind of life where you can just travel wherever you want on a whim, but I on the other hand have never left this country and probably will not be able to afford to for a very long time.
Essentially what you are saying is that if you can't legally acquire something from where you are, and don't have the means to move or travel to another country to acquire it, then you aren't allowed to access it. But then... your argument becomes a bit invalid - the company who created it then, is STILL losing sales, so what difference does it make?
@theblackdragon - I partially agree and partially disagree. I really don't think games are too expensive, and I CERTAINLY don't think eShop games are too expensive.
On the other hand, in SOME CASES, there ISN'T actually an option. With games, this isn't often the case, but there are certainly examples of eShop and retail games that come out in one region and take months or even over a year for them to be released elsewhere, if they're ever released at all. Options really can be limited.
Then if you factor in other media - comics, television, music, books, movies - there are hundreds upon hundreds of examples of things that you simply cannot get access to from outside of your own country. What do you suggest one does in these cases? Companies make some small attempts to remedy this: creating specialty stations for foreign content on digital cable or satelite TV - Netflix really helps to bridge the gap when it comes to finding foreign content - but options are still very limited. Living in North America I'm bombarded with nothing but American content, and despite living IN Canada STRUGGLE to find DVDs or my favourite Canadian shows - not to mention the countless Japanese and British television that I would love to be able to watch but literally cannot.
Did I really "steal" these things? What would you suggest I do instead, move to other countries and purchase their hardware and software there?
This rant doesn't necessarily apply to gaming as much, but it certainly aplies to this discussion.
@Koto - But it's not a lost sale - that person would NEVER HAVE BOUGHT THE GAME ANYWAY. Yes, I am, in a way defending those who pirate. It's simple logic - people who pirate games, ESPECIALLY on a system (as opposed to on a PC), ESPECIALLY in the case of eShop games, would never have bought that game in the first place. If they WERE willing to EVER buy the game - they're SO CHEAP that they would just buy it. I refuse to believe that someone would actually think to themselves "Oh man, Pushmo / Mutant Mudds / Gunman Clive looks like such a cool game! But man... $8? / $2? That's REALLY going to hurt my wallet. I better steal it." I absolutely refuse to believe that pirating harms sales - it's all bull**** that companies make up because they don't like that certain individuals aren't paying for the content. Sorry, they wouldn't have paid for it EITHER WAY. Plain and simple.
I think what I find most frustrating about this standpoint is that the majority of games that this developer makes are eShop releases that are less than $10. Anybody who pirates a game that is only $10 NEVER INTENDED TO BUY IT IN THE FIRST PLACE. The people who plan to buy the game, will, because it's a quality game at a small fraction of the cost of a full retail release. I find it odd that developers are always blind to... simple logic. It's like they think we don't have brains and that if something's available for free we're all just going to start breaking our systems so we can steal everything.
I think this is my biggest issue with copyright law and developer's opinions on pirating: they're so worried about losing money that they instantly fear that we're all thieves who will do anything to get a game for free. Arg. Arg arg arg.
I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, I REALLY don't think piracy affects sales as much as developers like to think it does, and I find it very disappointing that RK would be as silly as to decide not to develop for the system. EVERY SYSTEM WILL GET HACKED. Why even bother developing at all if you're afraid of that?
At the same time: there are a lot of things I believe piracy can provide that companies are selfishly not willing to, such as issues with region locks, that I think are actually important issues, when it comes to CERTAIN media. HAVING SAID THAT: the mentality of THESE kinds of hackers, and the general public when it comes to hacking tools, quite simply pisses me off.
They're basically saying that they bought a system that they don't want to play the games for. Why on earth would you spend money on a system if it has nothing to offer you without it being hacked? I can understand if you're using piracy to make available to you a TV show or song that you can't purchase normally in your region, or even to play games you can't otherwise play (whether because they're too old or hard to find or whatever) ON YOUR COMPUTER - but to buy a gaming system and essentially "break" it so you can play games on it that aren't FOR it... confusing.
I am actually so strangely excited for this. This may seem weird but this is totally the type of game my friends and I would spend far too much time playing. >_>
@NintendoCat14: One main point you made in your post that I must agree with: why is Cave Story not on this list? Not only is it an amazing game, the 3DS eShop version is by far the best version of the game available anywhere, in my opinion. And it's definitely better than VVVVVV and Mighty Switch Force, which are both games I love - so that's saying a lot!
Definitely a pretty decent list, though some of it does seem a bit... off...
Theatrhythm and Resident Evil in particular... I think a large amount of the appeal of those games is to fans of the series', and I don't know if someone new to either series would be getting much out of either game.
Also I think the "Fallblox/Crashmo" entry should really just say "Fallblox and Pullblox/Crashmo and Pushmo", because I personally can't imagine having one without the other/
I have this on my Wii... and on a little plug and play machine... but I will still be getting it on my 3DS... YAY Nintendo take ALL of my monies, I don't need it for anything! xD
I'm also not very surprised. All the hype the game was getting was making me think that maybe my initial perception of the game was incorrect, but this basically sums up what I thought when I saw the first trailer.
It just didn't look like there was... enough game. And with Denpa Men available... this just feels pointless!
I will be getting the digital verison of Paper Mario but not right away - going to wait until probably around Christmas time, since I have a lot of other expenses right now, and don't have time to sink into an RPG. Plus I would like to play through 1000 Year Door and Super Paper Mario first, neither of which I ever finished playing through (Whoops! silly University getting in the way of my gaming!)
Though I will be trying that Epic Mickey demo for sure. I wasn't planning on getting Ninja Gaiden but I'm sad it's not out. The rest of their VC schedule better not get effed up!
Did it specifically say they are Mario and Zelda characters? If I were to guess I would say they're Pokemon. I totally see an Arcanine and either a Bulbasaur or an Ivysaur on the right. Not sure about the left though.
I don't care what your opinion on his music might be, but this kids works SO freakin' hard for his fans, and you have to admire that. I've never worked half as hard for anything in my entire life - as far as celebrities go, I think he's earned a lot of what he's received. (Though I do think our society pays celebrities WAY too much for the work they do, but as far as his fame and fans are concerned, he works his ass off for it so I think it's deserved.)

Bazly commented on Renegade Kid Worried About 3DS Piracy:

Bazly commented on Feature: 10 Essential Games For Your New 3DS:
Definitely a pretty decent list, though some of it does seem a bit... off...
Theatrhythm and Resident Evil in particular... I think a large amount of the appeal of those games is to fans of the series', and I don't know if someone new to either series would be getting much out of either game.
Also I think the "Fallblox/Crashmo" entry should really just say "Fallblox and Pullblox/Crashmo and Pushmo", because I personally can't imagine having one without the other/

This game might be difficult, but it's one of the few games where I can die over and over again and not be mad! So excited to have it on my 3DS!
