Re: Fire Emblem Series Discussion

Bassman_Q

Anyone else a big fan of Sacred Stones? That's my personal favorite of the series, since it was the first title released in the west that allowed you to select a promotion path and had a world map. I also felt that it was the most balanced in terms of both difficulty and variety of units; if you recruited everyone you could have 1 of every possible promoted class. That also made every character feel that more special, unlike in Awakening where every character almost felt like a blank slate with the number of reclass options they had.

Re: What are your 5 fave nintendo games of all time??

Bassman_Q

Hmm... are we talking 1st-party games only? Cuz my Top 5 of all time goes something like this:

1.) Final Fantasy VI (SNES/GBA) - The GBA version has arguably the better translation
2.) Super Mario RPG: The Legend of the Seven Stars (SNES)
3.) The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker (GCN)
4.) Banjo-Tooie (N64)
5.) Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones (GBA)

I grew up with most of these titles, with the exception being FFVI, which somehow took the top spot after I played the GBA version about 6 years ago and was mesmerized by its excellent character development and story.

Re: 3DS Recommendations Thread

Bassman_Q

For the E3 sale right now, I'm having trouble deciding between A Link Between Worlds or Fantasy Life. They both seem great, since ALBW goes back to 2D roots with a shaken-up item formula, but FL looks like it could be a solid, meaty life-sim/RPG experience. Any thoughts?

Re: Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call

Bassman_Q

Just got this game via Amazon today and have already killed 2 hours on it. I'm enjoying it quite a bit so far, but one minor gripe I had with it was the fact that the Collection wasn't unlocked from the start. I kept playing through songs and collected about a dozen CollectaCards before I was able to actually view them in the Collection after beating a Quest. Just thought it was strange choice to have the player unlock the option to view the collectibles.

Re: Top 5 3DS games

Bassman_Q

Of the 9 games I currently own, here's my Top Five:

1.) Fire Emblem: Awakening (Played this game to death when it first released!)
2.) Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (Might be tied for Number 1; 20 hours in and it's still has me on my toes!)
3.) Pokemon Y (The first and only Pokemon game I actually played through to the end. Love the epic 3D battles!)
4.) Super Mario 3D Land (The game that came pre-installed with my system, I recently beat it and realized how good (but short) it is.)
5.) Resident Evil: Revalations (Only played 3 hours so far but it might be my favorite RE game!)

This list will probably change soon, once Theatrhythm Final Fantasy and Smash Bros comes out in the next month. Also, I have yet to play A Link Between Worlds, so I have that to look forward to as well.

Re: Radiant Historia

Bassman_Q

So I've been playing this one on and off lately (after finally getting the game November '13), and am at the door with the black seal where you have to fight 4 guardians. The first 3 guardians weren't so hard, but once you get to the last one SPOILERS Viola SPOILERS, I just keep getting my @$$ handed to me. I fought her at least 5 times now with a party of Stocke, Raynie, and Aht (At levels 51, 49, and 48, respectively), and every time I kill off the stones first which are easy with Aht, but then the boss usually kills one of my party and those damn Noble Flames kill of the remaining two within a turn. I always raise everyone's MDef using Ahts Lunatic spell but it's so short that it only lasts like 3 full turns and I never know when it wears off because I usually have Regen cast at the same time. I'm starting to lose my patience with this game despite the very engaging story, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call

Bassman_Q

I've been super hyped for it, especially after the announcement of the Legacy of Music Contest. I'm a big music person so naturally I entered the contest, and if any of you are interested I can post a link to it on YouTube though I forgot how to embed videos on here haha. I also love how the demo included songs from what many consider to be the best of the series: FFVI and FFVII.

Seriously, in two months alone, 3 major games that I've been hyped up for since the beginning of this year or earlier are being released: first Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (which is brilliant btw, I haven't been so gripped in a game's plot and gameplay in quite awhile!), then Curtain Call (which I expect will have loads of nostalgia-filled tracks), and finally, SMASH BROS!

As big as 2013 was for the 3DS, the 2nd half of 2014 seems even bigger,

Re: Best Buy BOGO Sale

Bassman_Q

Kind of disappointed that Luigi's Mansion isn't on the list, but I'll deal...

I don't have Zelda, Bravely, or Tomodachi yet, and I'm debating which of the 3 I should get. I'll definitely get ALBW, but for the freebie I'm not sure whether to get Tomodachi Life or Bravely Default. Tomodachi seems like it'd be just crazy fun and strange, but Bravely also seems like a great game,, though I'm honestly not looking for an RPG right now... I suppose I could always save it for later or selling it for a profit later in like 10 years.

Re: SD Card Migration

Bassman_Q

Having done this twice, from a 4GB to an 8GB, then to a 16GB, this is what I do:

1.) Take out the old SD card from your 3DS (with the power off of course)
2.) Plug it into your computer and copy ALL the files into a folder on your computer.
3.) Plug in the newer, bigger SD card into your computer and copy all of those files onto the new card.
4.) Insert the new SD card into your 3DS and turn it on. It should work completely fine as if nothing was changed. That's pretty much exactly what happens, except now you have more space to utilize!

Re: Movies That Critics Hate, But You Love

Bassman_Q

Despite popular opinion, I actually rather enjoyed TRON: Legacy. Sure, the plot was pretty generic and the ending made you think "Why didn't Flynn do that epic thing in the first place?!", but it was enjoyable to me mainly because of the epic soundtrack and beautiful visuals. Oh, and Olivia Wilde. One can never get too much Olivia Wilde.

Re: Shovel Knight Release Date Announced!

Bassman_Q

I'm glad it's finally coming next week, but I'll admit I'm a bit bummed by the price tag: I was expecting it to be like $8.99, but on the eShop it says the price will be $14.99. Seems a bit steep imo; I'll probably cheap out and wait for a discount.

Re: Complete list of all past Club Nintendo monthly game rewards

Bassman_Q

Hey kudos to the list; it's actually pretty helpful! It's up to you, but you could also add the titles that Nintendo offered as free downloads for Gold/Platinum members.
I think I've downloaded about 4 or 5 from Club Nintendo, saving me quite a few bucks in the process. If I remember correctly they were:
Fluidity
ExciteBike: World Rally
Metroid II
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Gold Membership free download)
Dillon's Rolling Western

Re: AeternoBlade

I actually didn't really enjoy the demo. It had an interesting concept, but I felt the presentation was a bit meh. Maybe I've been spoiled by other games, but I didn't really like the character models or the music. Bottom line, I don't think I'll be buying it in the future.

Re: is the last story for wii good?

Bassman_Q

I'd say it's my absolute favorite game on the Wii, closely followed by Okami. The story is beautiful, though the game itself does feel a bit short in length compared to other RPG's. Also, the soundtrack is pretty amazing, though you can't expect any less from Nobuo Uematsu. I've seriously had the theme song stuck in my head since I finished the game a few days ago.

Re: I'm making an entire RPG in a day.

Just started reading this thread and have been hooked for the past hour. It's really awesome you're challenging yourself to do this. Reading these posts and listening to your game's music has inspired me to try making my own music again (I haven't worked on any music projects for the past 4 months or so). Keep up the great work, can't wait to experience the final game!

Re: The Last Story

Bassman_Q

I snagged a "new" copy of this at Gamestop for $30 back in July, and 2 months later I finally beat the game! That last boss had me raging the past 3 days, as that difficulty spike was driving me nuts! Took me 6 tries to beat him, each time taking 20-30 minutes each. Still, the ending was worth it. One of the best and most heartfelt endings to a game imo. Unfortunately, I DID end up skipping 2 or 3 of the optional chapters, which also means I (apparently) SPOILERS skipped/missed Zael and Calista's wedding lol END SPOILERS

Re: GBA games

Bassman_Q

I for one actually enjoyed Minish Cap better than A Link To The Past. In fact, I will probably be one of the only people to say that I honestly didn't enjoy ALTTP all that much. I guess it's because I started with Wind Waker and was spoiled with the Zelda series ever since.

That being said, since you've raised a discussion about the GBA, if you haven't yet played Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones or Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, you definitely should. Two of my all-time favorite games right there.

Funny, I was tempted to start a thread about it, when I read your comment.

I'm really not much of an anime person, with the only ones I've ever watched being Gundam Wing and Gundam 00, along with Crayon Shinchan (Japanese dub; a LOT funnier that way despite only understanding half of what they say), but one of my irl friends recommended I watch RWBY and I'm hooked. The first 3 episodes were kinda eh, but after watching the 4th I got really hooked. Shame they only release 6-7 minutes videos once a week.

Re: Fire Emblem Kakusei (Awakening)

So now that I've beat the game finally, I think I'll dive right in to a brand new file. >:3 Any suggestions on an avatar name? Last time I used Jack (I tend to ALWAYS name the main character this for some reason). For the 2nd playthrough, I'm thinking either Nathan or Oliver. Oliver would make sense since he'll be marrying Olivia.

I think I'll also do a second run of Sacred Stones at the same time.

Well, Henry's probably young enough to be with the ricken/Donnel/Nowi/Lissa group. Also MU, as long he's either the middle build or small build. A large build MU with Lissa or Nowi is just friggen creepy.

@CapnPancakes - I also paired Lon'Qu with Panne my first playthrough. Yarne ended up with Astra. Then I second sealed him to a Berserker. With Astra. Nothing could touch him. XD
