Although I am generally opposed to using a roster slot as a marketing ploy (though it has been done before in Smash), the characters introduced all look very unique and fun to play. I am slightly disappointed there weren't more stage releases (and maybe a returning vet or two) though. Still, the amount of extra content in this game is staggering.

@Aerona I agree. They need to have some big draws for the next smash game. I would prefer to have some of the newer/obscure characters featured in the lead up to release rather than DLC characters. With the crazy number of characters in this game, the gamer fury is going to be astronomical when characters get cut from the next game.

@hcfwesker it's not listed but eShop cards are 10% off until the 19th as well. They were 15% on thanksgiving weekend unadvertised, so I snagged one then. The past two years I've noticed 20% off sales after the holidays (probably to get people with cash and gift cards on the door).

I guess treasurenauts will not be coming out anymore? That game is at least a year behind its original release date. Their ports of the DS games were likely doomed from the start and have been panned critically. That genre and subpar reviews aren't going to net too many sales on 3DS too be honest.

I do hope they are successful though because I don't want to seethed fail as they seem to actual put a lot of effort into their work.

@c1pher_c0mplet my experience has been pretty bad. Terrible connection and absolutely horrible puzzle solvers. The icons can only do so much, especially when players have the one item you need to advance (the worst is trying to tell the people with gust jars to blow the swinging platforms to get everyone to the next area). Personally, more level specific icons would go a long way.

I will admit I haven't had much time to play since I started a new job and have a 1 year old. Single player is better than reviews said (at least the initial levels). I play on the bus home and if you play it as a puzzle game rather than action game, single player is a lot of fun (expect it to be slow and then you won't get as frustrated with moving every totem over and over).

Just my two cents.

@Inkling-Inc I feel the same way. 3DS had announcement after announcement. WiiU got one "new" game announcement and that was a remake (maybe there were more but I don't remember them). Clearly any new home console games are being saved for NX (though I suspect some might become WiiU games too but just won't be announced until the NX announcements). It was still a good direct but just shows that WiiU is over.

Barely_Able commented on Nintendo Says That Star Fox Zero's Gyro Contro...:

I think gyro probably will be the best way to play this game, but I do have some hesitation. I just started plying LoZ: WW, and gyro is usually amazing for your items. The only problem I noticed is that it is really hard to use when you get to a circular arena because you inevitably move the gamepad all over the place and then have to work on resetting it. I mostly had this happen against the second dungeon boss using the boomerang, and it was very uncomfortable/annoying.

I could see how the gamepad could be tough to use in dogfight settings in all range mode. Maybe the stick controls for turning around and the limited frame in your cockpit view make it not that big a problem? Still nice to have options.

Unfortunately, only a few of the acclaimed indie games of the past 5 years have come out on Nintendo platforms, and that situation isn't going to get any better until the next console due to the difference in power/ability to run different engines or programming languages. On top of this, almost all indie games these days are Metroidvania types or puzzle platformers.

Part of the problem is the Nintendo consumer, but I would say Nintendo itself is the bigger problem.

@MrRaven1972 Unfortunately, they need to kill it off. It is a drain on their finances and has almost no chance of making up ground. Unfortunatey because it is a pretty slick system with some neat concepts and game design possibilities. They have resigned themselves to this fact it seems as they didn't pull out all of the stops for the system. The only reason they returned to profitability was because of exchange rates and amiibo being a bigger success then they thought.

Barely_Able commented on Next Metroid Prime Home Console Title "Would L...:

@Hachiko Not necessarily. We know that Nintendo immediately moves on to their next platform. They also unified the R&D divisions for console/handheld, so they likely have resources to crank something new out. What is abundantly clear is, that if the NX is as capable as the PS4/XBone, they could likely get a lot of the great third party support. The other consoles seem to have few real exclusives, which might make NX appealing to other gamers if they can get the great 3rd party stuff.

Of course, that is likely a pipe dream because it might not sell well and Nintendo's target audience appears to never buy 3rd party software (admittedly, there hasn't really been comparable hardware for the past 10 years). I just know that Gamecube was the most powerful but it was not a great sales success. nintendo tends to do better when they go outside the box, but that hurts them with the "core" gamers/developers.

@Peach64 I think it might be a handheld devise with a set top box that streams to the tv. That way you can use it on the go and at home. This would probably fit the Japanese push to mobile while still satisfying home console fans. The problem would be what is under the hood to get 3rd parties interested. Although, if you had the ability to play 3DS/WiiU games on a single system now, there would be a ton of content to get people excited.

Whatever it ends up being, it is clear that the WiiU is not long for this world with what has been said form multiple Nintendo people. I say 2 years at best. Hopefully we get a traditional metroid out of it though .

@Gridatttack It will eventually come, but not until NX (which appears to be a console replacement if Tanabe is to be believed). It sounds like they haven't been developing Prime 4 and it would take a least 3 years to make. At that point NX would be out. This says nothing of the more traditional metroid games that are made by Sakamoto. So I don't think Metroid fans will be satisfied anytime soon.

@JaxonH Star Fox is perfect for online. You can have the dogfights that were in the 64 version, but you could also have a cooperative mode that actually utilizes all 4 airwings. That could be in the story mode or it could be in some battle arenas or courses specifically design for this mode. That would add some longevity to the game. Think Warhawk for PS3. Of course, that would require voice chat, so it would be a waste with Nintendo.

Barely_Able commented on Iwata Vows To Listen To E3 2015 Digital Event ...:

@Brett Especially since they skip out on TGS. This is their biggest stage of the year and they didn't deliver. If people think the other directs come close to this viewership they are kidding themselves. Maybe Nintendo is thinking that some announcements will get lost in the deluge of game announcements, but they need to realize that this is the time when their most ardent supporters and people that might be willing to buy multiple consoles are watching. They need to have something big every year saved just for this show. The way they ended it was sub-optimal to say the least. I just think they seem to forget what the audience is for this event.

@Yorumi I actually think the gyro controls will be good if they are like Splatoon, but hopefully they have the ability to go traditional (I think this was mentioned but don't remember). No online is inexcusable for this game. Could have all sorts of cool modes with the vehicle transformations.

The Animal Crossing game was the worst part of the show. I was certain they would transition from happy home designer to a WiiU version where you could import your designs into the game using the amiibo. Seems like a perfect use of the functionality and a way to upsell another game and figures/cards to users. Think about how easy it would be to populate your town with the characters you want and design their homes. But that seems like a wasted opportunity (maybe a Wii U AC is still coming but wasn't ready to show). I don't even know what the game is supposed to be even.

This is especially dumb since NOA just tweeted you can design town facilities as well in HHD. Major missed opportunity.

It will be even better when it drops to $15 a year after release like sonics ultimate genesis collection. This is a pretty good deal already and a decent complement to the new games coming out on the XBone. I'm more surprised about how many people here seem to have forgotten that Microsoft has owned Rare for 10+ years now.

@Eat_Pie Wasn't it out of print for most of that time span? I know I needed to get a used copy because it was too expensive to warrant buying a new copy. Wasn't it also not available on the eshop until a bit after release (might be thinking of another early game though).

I could see a wiiU entry being successful if they would employ the splatoon (and what I assume will be in Star Fox) motion control scheme (with options to use sticks for those that want to). A game with mostly the flying sections and even crazier set pieces could be pretty awesome.

@Tsurii some of the content isn't complete and will receive an August update. That stuff is new modes for ranked battle and the ability to stay in teams with friends. I think they probably will add a few more stages and weapons at that point as well. This current stuff is already prepared but being drip fed the audience to help hold interest and let players develop before more complex modes are introduced.

Barely_Able commented on Ninterview: Jeremy Parish On Cataloguing The H...:

I recommend that people check out some of Mr. Parish's retrospectives on the subject. This is a particularly good one:

http://www.usgamer.net/articles/the-game-boy-legacy-a-25th-anniversary-celebration

Also checkout his retronauts podcast (the old one if it is still accessible and the new one).

@Peach64 The ambition is not much weirder than chrontendo (which may have been an inspiration for this project), which seeks to catalog the NES games from order of release. In fact, the Gameboy was arguably one of the most important touchstones in gaming, so cataloging its lineup is very important for history's sake. I don't want to speak for him, but Mr. Parish does detailed analysis of game levels through his Anatomy of a Game series, so he seems to have a love for this sort of deep retrospective and review for things in this medium that shaped it so much.

@Yosher Yeah, it really should be a free update. I'm not sure there is any value other than for people that may get tons of street passes to the point where their old ones are removed (and even that isn't worth it because by this point, those people would have collected all of the hats and completed the games).

@Yosher Apparently you get the birthday tracker, which gives you plaza tickets, can save 100 VIPs (including special miis), allows you to shorten the greeting segment when you get new street passes, and you can change the background music and play it during sleep mode.

@MoonKnight7 Most Starbucks in the US have switched over to google for their wifi, so the Nintendo Zones have gone away with them. @Henmii amiibo makes Nintendo boatloads so its here to stay in every direct for the near future. Personally I think the amiibo card idea at least was essential to the gameplay. Mind you designing a house was my least favorite part of animal crossing, but the card idea is a cheaper option and seems better for being integral to actual gameplay.

Decent showing, but there are some markedly worrying gaps in the release schedule. DLC and retro games are fine to fill small gaps, but they better have some big E3 announcements coming. 3DS is particularly lacking in the release department for the second half of the year.

@Vineleaf Fire emblem is a perfect game to emulate Hearthstone. Card packs with characters and weapons and whatnot. They have 25 years of history to draw from too, so expansions would be quite easy. Plus they could get the Pokemon company to help if they need since they already have experience working on a trading card game for iOS.

@Josaku Nintendo is doing all of the game development, quality control, and interface development. DeNA is doing all of the backend technical stuff to ensure the games work on iOS and Android. So this will require dedicated Nintendo teams. Personally, Nintendo has the resources to hire a mobile development division, and with them outsourcing the backend, it shouldn't even require that big a staff. i don't see this affecting the production of games for 3DS, WiiU, and eventual successor consoles (not that they are churning those out at an amazing clip anyway).

@rjejr Lol, not sure how many will get the Jonestown reference. I say this is not a white night for Nintendo fans (although many have been drinking the mobile = doomed kool aid). I personally think that Nintendo has a good opportunity to use mobile games to get people interested in their dedicated gaming platforms. They could easily throw in advertisements for games in their smartphone titles and even link to websites about other games on consoles. It will all come down to how they price games, and if they don't parasitize potential traditional game sales by offering up decent mobile alternatives.

@Folkloner I know they advertised the Tropical Freeze/Donkey Kong virtual console promotion on the gamepad quick start menu. I think that is something nintendo should do more of.
