@Nirvana Maybe those are still coming! I don't think Nintendo is THAT stupid. I think that leak several months ago about the remastered N64 titles is in fact real and is in fact coming sooner than we think. I'm much more surprised we haven't had a new Nintendo Direct in 2014 yet, personally.

@Drake Amen. Dual Strike, at least for this hardened Advance Wars fan who really didn't like the direction that other game took the series (and pretty much buried it), was actually better in every way. I'd really, really, really like to forget that piece of garbage ever existed, and I sincerely hope Nintendo does as well.

I am in abject disagreement about Days of Ruin being good OR being considered an Advance Wars game. I will absolutely disagree with that choice and I would actually suggest something like Tetris DS take its place. Or even translate Fire Emblem: Shin Monsho no Nazo and bring it over here. I'd take even a newly localized Fire Emblem game over Days of Ruin any day of the week.

BJWanlund commented on Feature: Our Top 10 3DS Games - Summer 2013:

Here are my top 3 3DS games. Not top 10, top 3. These are only the games I've played, so don't hurt me if your fave isn't on my list:
3) Streetpass Mii Plaza (yes, I consider this a game.)
2) Super Street Fighter IV 3D (A 3DS launch game that was actually good)
1) FIRE EMBLEM AWAKENING. Easily, EASILY my most-played 3DS game ever. I should be wrapping up playthrough #3 (!!) this week, and I couldn't be more excited to kick some evil to the curb.

BJWanlund commented on Talking Point: The Future of No-Frills Emulati...:

I love the no-frills emulation of the Ambassador titles, and would enjoy seeing it continue, even if there's an emulator application for each system (GB and GBC could be one system if Nintendo really fudged it) on the 3DS eShop that I pay a $5 lifetime fee per application for, and I can put any ROM for that system or systems onto my SD card and be able to play some of the games that would never, ever, ever be made available via the eShop (cough DuckTales cough).

BJWanlund commented on Talking Point: The Five Remaining GBA Ambassad...:

Okay, I haven't read all the comments yet, but here's what I think:

More Mario: Likely, though not guaranteed.

Advance Wars: Likely, but I would think that Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising would be the game of choice here.

Link: Maybe. I think Minish Cap would be pretty interesting to try out, but there are other games I'd rather play in the GBA Ambassador games category.

DK: Not terribly likely. They do have other DK games in the eShop, and I don't think these games would work, because there's already a DK game, Mario vs. Donkey Kong, in the Ambassador Program.

Kirby: Possible. Not a guarantee tho.

Other: Mother 1+2 and Mother 3 would be FANTASTIC for us to play in English at long last. If they're going to add Mother 3 as an "import", and they may or may not be able to count the Mother series as Ambassador games, then I think it'd be very awesome and amazing.

Another idea I'd have is Kuru Kuru Kururin, a GBA import game that we in the States never got, but you lucky Europeans apparently did.

And yet one more idea is a game that I would personally love to play: a Metroidvania game.

BJWanlund commented on Talking Point: The NES Games You Want on 3DS V...:

NES Classics (not just the Ambassador games):
Adventures in the Magic Kingdom
Balloon Fight (and Balloon Kid on the GB Virtual Console too please)
Any Batman title (VERY unlikely)
Bill Elliott's NASCAR Challenge
Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle
Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse (and the Castlevania games on the GB Virtual Console as well please)
Contra (and its sequels)
Day Dreamin' Davey (hey, it's from HAL Labs, so it's a subsidiary of Nintendo)
Double Dare (licensing's going to be a pain on this one, but if Nintendo can put out a TMNT game, they can most certainly put out a Double Dare game)
the Double Dragon games
Dr. Mario
Dragon Power (based on the Dragon Ball anime)
DUCK HUNT (holy crap, what is the licensing trouble with this game? Just get it out there already!!)
DuckTales (GB version too please)
Earthbound Zero (like a number of other folks said)
Gargoyle's Quest II
Ghosts 'n Goblins
Gold Metal Challenge '92 (perfect multiplayer game)
The Goonies II
Home Alone (unlikely)
Ice Climber
The Incredible Crash Dummies (see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Incredible_Crash_Dummies)
John Elway's Quarterback
Jordan vs. Bird 1 on 1
Kid Icarus (preferrably with the original password system intact)
The Little Mermaid (maybe I'll finally exorcise my demons on that game)
Magic Johnson's Fast Break (which had the capability for four players to play simultaneously)
M.C. Kids
Metroid (preferrably with the original password system intact)
Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! (unlikely)
NES Open Tournament Golf
NES Play Action Football (a weird choice, but someone might remember that one)
Nintendo World Cup
Popeye
River City Ransom
Snoopy's Silly Sports Spectacular! (the least likely on this list, if they put Snoopy's Magic Show on the GB Virtual Console I'd be deliriously happy)
Super C
Super Dodge Ball
Super Mario Bros. 2 (why not?)
Tecmo Bowl
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Arcade Game (the ONLY licensed game on Virtual Console on Wii to my knowledge)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters
The Three Stooges
Tiny Toon Adventures
Tiny Toon Adventures 2: Trouble in Wackyland
Wacky Races
Where's Waldo?
Wrecking Crew
Mario & Yoshi (known as just Yoshi here in the States)
Yoshi's Cookie (GB version of this game and Yoshi as well please)

Yes, a goodly number of these games are stuck in licensing hell, but if there could be one super major LEGAL way to buy many of these games (not just NES, but SNES, N64, Genesis/MegaDrive, Sega CD/Mega CD, etc.) and still give money where it should and needs to go, then I'm all for it, even if it's a collection that I have to play on a game system or PC or whatever.

BJWanlund commented on Regional eShops Will Continue to Offer Differe...:

NoA, while not nearly as bad as NoE, needs to get their act together with regards to content parity with Europe and Japan to a certain extent. Kirby's Dream Land in Japan but not America or Europe? Travesty! Tennis in Europe, but not Japan or America? Travesty!

Let's just get content parity with the games that got released everywhere for GB/GBC, and maybe even some "Import" titles that never made it to the West. I'd definitely like some GBA titles as well, there were a couple GBA games (cough Mother 1 + 2, Mother 3, Winning Post GBA cough) that I'd love to see as "Import" titles on GBA, preferably with localized text.

Well, if Hudson wants to work with Nintendo to release the other two Mario Party N64 titles, I'd be a happy camper.

And @deegan714, I played the Adventure Island II Game Boy equivalent (Adventure Island GB) and really enjoyed that game. If you like sidescrollers and difficult platform games, that'll be right up your alley.

BJWanlund commented on First Impressions: 3DS Virtual Console:

@4 Agreed, Mario Land 1 is actually one of my absolute favourite games of all time. (And yes, I do spell 'favourite' like the Brits and Canucks do, it's interchangeable to me, so sue me)

@5 That'd be sweet... except that they would have to ensure somehow that you could re-download certain home console games that you already purchased and downloaded on, say, the Wii.

@9 Probably not going to happen, unless Nintendo has a plan to make prepaid cards for the 3DS eShop like Sony has with the PlayStation Network Store.

@12 I'm particularly hoping for DK94, as I never really played that.

@13 I hope so as well, because the VC has been sort of lame recently. The best game that came out recently was Mario Party 2, and even that one I played to death before, LOL.

@14 From the Super Mario Land video I saw from Nintendo World Report, it looked almost identical in resolution to the original GB. Not sure what you're talking about there.

@15 See above, I think Nintendo will have to take a look at prepaid cards for a certain value, much like Sony has with their PlayStation Network Store.

@17 I am also extremely hyped about the 3DS VC! I really appreciate that they put the thought and effort into it and decided not to screw it up badly like they did with the Wii VC, where there was a great amount of games at first and then it tapered off to a mere trickle when WiiWare came about, and we got maybe one VC game per week if we were lucky, once every month if not.

@19 I always liked the shmup levels (specifically the sub level, the only one I could get to without eliciting the infamous "GAME OVER" noise).

@21 Heck, if Nintendo actually prices them wisely (and NOT try to jack us for the privilege), I'll buy them all, no matter if I've played them to death or not.

@22 I have absolutely no hope for the kinds of games I'd like to see on the 3DS's Virtual Console: the Capcom-Disney games for GB, Snoopy Magic Show, and the LJN games, as crappy as they were, along with many of the licensed titles that came out for the system, which I know for a fact that many GB players remember playing MORE than the original IPS on the system.

@23 For me, it's 3/4 of the reason. The 3DS games that are slated to be coming out, like Blazblue: Continuum Shift II, Kid Icarus Uprising, and Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition, are just the icing on the delicious cake that is the 3DS.

SURVEY SAYS... DENIED!

Seriously, I don't care about no online. It's not the authentic Jam experience without screaming at the TV and trash talking your buddies on the couch next to you. I'll be fine with no online regardless. Besides, it wouldn't have had Wii Speak support anyways.

BJWanlund commented on 3DS Release Date and Price Will be Revealed in...:

"Not September, we want to know now!" -- NL Caption

I'm afraid I agree. I stick by what I said on Twitter right around E3, which is the exact same launch month & day as the original DS (November 21), and $199 at the most if there is not going to be a pack in title, $250 if there is a pack in title (and at that price, I'd expect 2!).

BJWanlund commented on Nintendo Files Patent for Wii Hard Drive:

I would HOPE it was commercially available, AND I could buy digital games to put on the hard drives from either Nintendo themselves or GOG.com.

Seriously, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that the Wii desperately needs an anti-piracy solution, and this is it. If you want to play Wii games (or even GC games) on the Wii with a hard drive and System Menu 5.0 (or whatever the next point release of the System Menu is), then this is perfect.

BJWanlund commented on Reggie Confirms 3DS is Coming Next Year:

Well, this is actually a good thing IMO. That way, Nintendo can sell their historically under-selling franchises, or the games that might not be bought for the holidays, and then with the Christmas money that we all get, we can buy it early next year.

Although, if Reggie is playing a mean game of Chicken with Nintendo fans, I'll be uber-surprised.

And I had NO idea that Jimmy Fallon was a Nintendo fan! None whatsoever.

BJWanlund commented on E3 2010: Trailer of Wii-Exclusive Activision G...:

Ben94 is totally right. Activision has been pulling this off of YouTube left and right since it got leaked. How it can't be real is beyond me. I think it will be fully confirmed at the Nintendo presser later today, because Nintendo LOVES to totally overpromote their Wii exclusive third party titles (Monster Hunter Tri being a good example of that).

BJWanlund commented on Review: ChuChu Rocket! (Game Boy Advance):

This screams "I need a DS port!" more than any other game, especially because it'd make a lot more use of the 4 face buttons to place the arrows (X for up, B for down, Y for left, and A for right). This way, it'd be a nice hybrid of the Dreamcast version (including Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection to substitute for the Dreamcast's online capability) and the GBA version!

BJWanlund commented on Upcoming Media Summit Promises Surprises, Hype:

@Crystalking18: I'm with you 100% on 4 and maybe 75% on 3. I don't want to hear too much about the next series of Pokemon games right now, since HeartGold and SoulSilver would be just 2 weeks away or less at the point of the American media summit that's happening on Wednesday. Not sure so much about 2, although I would personally LOVE to hear about a release date for Metroid: Other M and maybe even another Metroid DS title that incorporates the GBA titles (Fusion & Zero Mission) and possibly a new one based on the old Game Boy Metroid II. Just saying. Oh, and maybe Nintendo can elaborate on what the heck is going on with that trademark they renewed in Japan for Super Mario All-Stars, because I personally would love to know on that front.

BJWanlund commented on Upcoming Media Summit Promises Surprises, Hype:

Here's what I want Nintendo (specifically NOA) to do (from 1 to 10, no particular order of importance):

1. I'd LOVE to see Nintendo addressing the absurd and obscene DS & Wii piracy problem, because if Nintendo continues to believe that people WON'T pirate and WON'T do anything about the piracy problem (ie an official DS flashcart that works on all DS models and official digital distribution solution to DS and a hard drive and official digital distribution solution for Wii), they will continue to get hammered in terms of sales, and things are only going to get worse for them.
2. DSi Virtual Console/Handheld. This should have been announced along with the DSi itself, and I am totally stumped as to why Nintendo hasn't announced it yet!!
3. A high definition solution for the Wii, because it would make things great. But also, could they PLEASE figure out how to export the Wii's and DSi's video signal to USB for purposes of YouTube videos? I ask this because I'd love to see the same quality for DS and Wii gameplay videos for developers and/or GameTrailers in the hands of YouTube users so that I don't have to see shaky cameras ever again!
4. Many "hardcore" game announcements to satiate the hardcores they left behind in order to court the casual gamer.
5. MORE REGGIE and NO Cammie, please.
6. PLEASE re-release the DS Wi-Fi USB Connector and please make it compatible with the Mac, and also tie it to a SINGLE Club Nintendo account's Nintendo devices in order to throw the security hounds in IT departments everywhere a bone!
7. Nintendo has been well-known for years for providing truly unique gaming experiences. They've made us laugh, they've made us cry. They've scared us silly, they've made us scream in anger. Please, Nintendo, I'd love to see the uniqueness that are Nintendo gaming experiences to come back in full force, even if you're still courting the unwashed masses of casual gamers.
8. I really, really want to see what Retro Studios and Factor 5 have been working on. Just sayin'.
9. If Nintendo were to implement the DS & Wii Online Store as I asked above, the prospects of getting these niche sorts of games (like Final Furlong, etc.) over here in the States (and in Europe) would get a humongous boost.
10. And if Nintendo were to finally implement the DSi Virtual Console, maybe we'd get Mother 1 & 2 AND Mother 3 AND some of the wackier niche GBA titles from Japan (like Kuru Kuru Kururin, Winning Post, etc.) over here in the West.

Just my thoughts, only 3 days until I get to see the goodness from an American perspective!

BJWanlund commented on XBLA Perfect Dark Getting GoldenEye Maps and W...:

I actually am holding out the tiniest portion of hope that Nintendo, realizing that chasing the casual audience was a bad idea to a degree, maybe starts catering a lot more to the hardcore fans like myself (and putting out games like Earthbound and Goldeneye on the VC, along with the DSi Virtual Console/Handheld), and I sincerely hope that is why Nintendo called a huge media summit next week: So as not to disappoint the hardcore Nintendo freakazoids like myself at the E3 conference later this year. However, I do happen to have more than just the Wii in terms of current-gen consoles, but that's because it's insufficient to do so otherwise because Nintendo really left us hardcores in the dust this generation.

But, that's just my opinion.

Thank goodness I haven't updated yet!

Just putting that out there...
