Awesoman commented on Mario History: Super Mario Land - 1989:

I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that Super Mario Land 2 wasn't particularly that great a game either. Yes, I said it. Oh sure, as a kid I marveled at how they made a Mario game with a "Super Mario World" style fit on a tiny GameBoy cartridge. But today, this game is an example of style over substance. Looking past the grand monochrome graphics, you've got a decent Mario game with subpar level structure. Sure, the Mario tower and space levels were neat, but they just don't match up with the level design of the console games. I don't dislike the game, just feel it hasn't aged well.

Link's Awakening on the other hand - now that sucker holds up!

Awesoman commented on Review: Mega Man & Bass (Wii U eShop / GBA):

This was a pretty solid Mega Man game. I liked how the graphics were directly ripped from the 32-bit Mega Man 8 game. Collecting all those discs added to the replay factor. That all being said, it would be nice if they released the Super Famicom version. At least there was a little more screen space on that one.

Awesoman commented on Nintendo Outlines Confusing amiibo Save Data L...:

I'm still failing to see the appeal of this amiibo thing. Basically you scan a toy and let the computer play for you? Is that an accurate assessment? If so, exactly how is that fun? What is the player supposed to do in the meantime, read a book?

Awesoman commented on Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Takes Sharing Expe...:

I'm hoping this stage builder is more robust than the one in Brawl. What would be awesome is if you could import your own custom graphics into these stages. That would never fly with Nintendo; at least they would probably prohibit sharing these online. Still, if there is room for a lot creativity to be had.

Awesoman commented on Video: Watch Our Handy Highlight Video To See ...:

Whilst Zelda looked good, there wasn't enough information on it to form any real opinion, other than the "Grand Theft Zelda" approach. The game I'm actually really excited about is Mario Maker. I will spend countless hours building unfair levels and use the blocks to spell words that will mock the player. It'll be great.

Awesoman commented on Review: Mega Man 3 (3DS eShop / NES):

Mega Man 2 is the definite classic. This one is pretty good too but it hasn't aged quite as well. The slowdown is annoying and the weapons aren't as interesting. Proto Man was a cool character; I remember wanting to finish this game desparately to find out what his secret was.

Awesoman commented on Talking Point: Nintendo's Lower Expectations A...:

The Wii U is probably Nintendo's first console system I have had little to no interest in purchasing. I may pick one up when some good games come along, but it sounds like this system will probably be dead in the water hardware-wise once Sony and Microsoft unveil their new systems, which will be soon.

Awesoman commented on Sorry, But GBA Games Aren't Coming To The 3DS ...:

I don't believe there is anything to worry about here. Of course GBA games will eventually find their way to the 3DS. In fact, there are at least 10 GBA games they've already made available for download (for those on the Ambassador program). Nintendo may be stubborn, but they're not stupid. The GBA had a good life cycle with memorable games and it would be completely foolish for the company to ignore them. Besides, if they can make Commadore 64 games available on the Wii, what's stopping them from putting GBA games on the 3DS?

Awesoman commented on Nintendo Rep: Virtual Console Being Toned Down:

I can live with the service being "toned down" but would be quite disappointed if they completely discontinued it. There are still quite a few games I'd like to see added to the VC. Among them: Rock & Roll Racing (SNES), The Simpsons (Arcade), TMNT (Arcade), Road Runner's Death Valley Ralley (SNES), etc. The fact that Super Star Wars showed up this week is a good sign.
