I agree with yah that they probably should have kept Wii running longer. But I think the micro console idea is rather meh and confusing. Plus how much more micro does it need to get when you're already the Wii or Wiiu? The darn controller is almost biger than the console! Haha!

Yeah, but then people would argue like they did with the DS that they need to kill it off so that people buy the new console. I think it would be even more confusing to consumers. They're like Sony. They don't need a third platform (or a fourth in Sony's case), they just need to focus on making the two they have more successful!

I think it's lame they are killing off the Wii so early, though. They could have kept that thing around for a few more years while the customers transitioned to Wii. But like I said, then people would argue that the Wiiu's worst enemy was the Wii!

That Digital Foundry article smells of BS. For one the other versions look almost unplayable due to the ridiculous amount of screen tearing. For two the Wiiu version looks BETTER than the other versions when you look at the screens. For three most of the frame rate dips seem like they're in cutscenes. For four, this game shouldn't need a install to work, period!

@Boxmonkey Probably because many other people wouldn't buy another console of they could have mario and gta on one console so deals are made to ensure that doesn't happen and if we do get major support the pubs are instructed to remove on major feature in the Wiiu version. Seems like a rigged market more than anything because when it doesnt play out like this the third parties do fine.

I don't so much discount new titles over old so much as hate the overall direction the rest of the industry is headed in. And looking back the Nintendo and Sega consoles just seemed a lot more compellig to play than Sony and MS old consoles. When all the extra, dated non gaming features are pealed away, you're left with the games and consoles like N64, Gamecube, and even Wii had some of the best of their generations. I do think you can look at newer games of a similar genre and appreciate the refinements being made. Look at link between worlds, looks phenomenal! Even Mutant mudds improves upon what they could accomplish in the 8 bit gen a great deal!

Its mostly all the same games on there that were featured when I got my phone a year ago. I tjink as of right now the market feels like its actually on a decling ive recently witnessed more ds and 3ds on the train then people gaming on a phone.

I get those couple of games took years to get, but they did make it! I'm wondering what the counter argument is that we'd get more games localized from Japan if we were region free. I'd like to see that because I'm thinking it's doubtful we actually would get more games made for States and US.

Other than that, yeah I support it as a consumer. I think it's nice to have the freedom to say you'd like the Japanese version of a game. Or import a game that's never coming over!

As of right now I can see how the argument that fewer games would get localized holds a lot of weight. Had Wii been region free would we have seen Pandora's Tower, Last Story, and Xenoblade make it to the States? I don't know if we would have because the people rallying for the American release might have just imported and never bothered.

I'm also hearing it's far more cost effective to buy a Japanese Wiiu and hit up their eshop anyway. Although you could argue you can hit up the Playstation store from you PSN without a hitch and get it all in one place..... but yeah again we come back to the argument if it's that easy would they even bother releasing in your territory for small releases like the ones above?
