Animan13 commented on Retrospective: Sega's Streets of Rage Series:

While I enjoy Streets of Rage 2 (never cared for 1 and 3), I've probably listened to the soundtracks for all three games at least a million times. I never get tired of listening to it.

The music for SoR3, though... it's definitely a surreal cacophony that didn't belong in the game. At first I hated it, but at some point in time I began to appreciate the bizarre rythyms and shrill synth sounds. There's an appeal I can't describe in words... as an artist, it's good to listen to when you're in an angsty, avant garde mood.

@MasterBlaster I gotcha. Since @gage_wolf had brought up some valid, well-researched points, I just felt the need to address them as best as possible. I am sorta upset by the quality of some of the games on the eShop lately. Whilst I feel I'm more than capable of delivering a great experience (ugh, I'm sick of that buzzword xD), I can understand how some people, burned out by those low quality games, will see my sorta-unpolished screenshots and brush off my own work as being no different.

Thanks to everyone else for the support! :3

@gage_wolf please DM me on Twitter (@Animan13) so I can explain why I made those posts. I have been making games since I was 13. I would never make flaky posts such as those unless it was something major, which it is. I do not feel comfortable sharing it out in the open where it will never go away because it's the internet.

EDIT: It's a situation that has been an emotional, confusing, and stressful experience for me and my parents. It had nothing to do with game development, but could have ended up requiring all the time and money I had set aside for game development.

@Mega719 it's not canceled, it's just the game's future is up in the air due to personal issues going on in my life. I didn't expect these particular tweets to make headlines.

@gage_wolf It just started as a simple compilation of easy ports, then I thought about some basic enhanced versions, then my ideas got more ambitious, and before I knew it- Bah, screw it, I could be getting work done on my game right now rather than arguing about it online. :P

@Gerbwmu Thank you. :)

While I'm still here before all the "It's just Slender!" comments start rolling in, I figured I'd take a moment to address something: The last few articles from here, GoNintendo, and NintendoEnthusiast have made me realize I've been doing a very crappy job of making info about my games readily available, whether it be screenshots, videos, etc. What ya'll see in this article is outdated screenshots and info, not to mention there's plenty of far better-looking videos/screenshots out there to use, but... unless you follow me on Twitter religiously, I can't blame you for not knowing. I promise I will try to do better on this in the future!

I've been slaving away at developing this game since last August and, despite the obstacles, I keep going because I know this is game you will all enjoy!

@gage_wolf The project is more than just a port; I'm pretty much making 3 new games. Combined with a 40 hour day job and said current personal issues (I'd prefer to stay silent on what that means publicly, but if you're concerned feel free to private message me on Twitter or something), progress has moved much slower than I'd like.

Also, I know guys, that trailer sucks >_<. It was from like 7 months ago and is for the OUYA version, not the Wii U one. I've been working with someone more knowledgeable with marketing to help me create a far better trailer.

@Sean_Aaron Yup! The first two games (Trashmania and Trashmania: Remix) were Atari 2600 homebrew games. You can find the (legal) ROMs for both of them floating around on AtariAge... Just remember that I was young when I did those forum posts. :P

@OorWullie Jonathon here! No, this is unrelated to Deedly Games' "Trash Mania". I emailed them a few months ago pointing out that I had made a few Trashmania games before, with the first one dating back to 2009, but we agreed to keep the names for our respective games' since we didn't feel it would cause significant problems for either of us.

@JustinH
1. Thanks! Most people seem to like the art (I've gotten some comments that it reminded them of the drawings they used to do as a kid), although I'll admit it looks much better in motion than in still images. And yes, we'll be maintaining the same art style for DX, although we might touch up a few rough spots and maybe redraw a few things if we feel it's needed. The new stages/items/features will stay consistent with this art style; I've also been experimenting with some cool effects recently like inverted colors, rolling the hand-drawings (yes, they were all drawn on real paper with real markers!) around a can and scanning that in to create a faded effect on the sides, and a few more. ;)

2. Arcade-Style RTS for 1-4 Players; Take command of a team of 4 "Wrecking Balls" as they fight other teams in a battle to the death! You don't control them directly, but rather you select one at a time and give them commands like "Attack", "Block", "Item", etc.

(We're hoping to refine the controls/gameplay just a little bit to make DX somewhat more accessible to newcomers; the learning curve involved with the unusual control scheme was a problem with the original game imo.)

Jonathon Bont from Team Kakumei here! Long-time NL reader, but just now created an account here to say hi and thanks for the publicity!

Oh, and a minor correction: i'm the only 18-year-old college freshman of the group; the other two guys are in their 20's (one of them is also in college), although I was the one who initiated contact with Nintendo and was initially entered into the developer program by myself, adding the other members later on (we as a team met online, and thus we're spread out a bit).
