I have to laugh a bit at the assertion that a large or generally successful company can't engage in patent trolling. Critics of Rockstar Bidco and its backers Apple, Blackberry, Ericsson, Microsoft, and Sony would like a word with you.

Andrew_Cook commented on Mario Kart Month: An Outsider's View Of Super ...:

@Damo lolwut? There's a pretty big difference between starting an older game in a series you've never played before (hence "outsider's perspective," it's pretty easy to understand) and criticizing a game from 1992 for its "low budget" visuals, the CPU for going after you in a Mario Kart game, and whining about having to press a button a whole seven times. Oh, the humanity! The entire idea of playing a game this old, especially when its the first entry in the series, and critiquing it based on subsequent innovation is foolish. Made even worse is its laughably condescending tone ("I expected better... Nintendo wasn't even trying"). It's like playing the original Metroid and saying "no backgrounds? Samus only shoots in two directions? Get with it, Nintendo!"

Andrew_Cook commented on Talking Point: The Watch_Dogs Wii U Delay Demo...:

This is an age-old problem with Nintendo, and it's easy to see why as they don't prostrate themselves for the likes of EA, but at this point mainstream gaming has deteriorated creatively to the point where, personally, I just don't care. I haven't gone with just one console in a generation since literally the NES, but I don't see why I shouldn't stick with Wii U now. If modern AAA gaming is an unsustainable model, maybe Wii U isn't in such a bad position after all.

Andrew_Cook commented on Iwata Accepts Responsibility For Poor Financia...:

For anyone calling to Iwata to resign, I have to ask: who should they put in charge to replace him? What plan can they put in place without him that will immediately increase Wii U sales to 3DS levels? What do a few lean years mean in the face of all Iwata's success? As someone said over on GoNintendo, this isn't sports where you freak out and fire the head coach after one bad season. This short-sighted take the money and run Western capitalist approach to business is helping nobody.

Andrew_Cook commented on Talking Point: Looking Ahead to Nintendo's E3:

On Nintendo platforms third party support will always be a guess, and brilliant first-party games will always be a given. I'm just hoping for a few surprises, like Nintendo picking up Shadow of the Eternals, reviving a few dead franchises, or maybe even starting a new one. I really do hope Wii U gets GTA V, though, since my PS3 is broken and I despise the 360, Wii U is the only console I'm using at the moment.
