Shovel Knight as #1? Booooo. That game is so overrated. It's not nearly as good as people claim it to be. It's filled to the brim with cheap deaths from randomized enemy patterns AND you lose your gold when you die which sets you back even furthur. It's such crap. I honestly don't see the amazing factor people are seeing. Guacamelee and Steam World Dig were so much more deserving of number 1. Oh and don't even get me started on the stupid amiibo buisness. Playstation and Xbox got free fan service content but we get a dinky figurine you have to pay for and it unlocks a co-op mode that either should've been included in the first place or shouldve never been made as it has no place in the game to begin with since the game isn't designed around it. I hate this game and I wish it would just go away already.

If they bothered going through the trouble of making HD models and assets for everything in this game, they should've just made a real Animal Crossing game. This piece of crap and HHD should not exist. They're diluting what makes Animal Crossing, Animal Crossing and going further from what makes it work. Please don't buy this game. Don't support these lazy spin offs. Consumers deserve a full Animal Crossing game.

AlternateButtons commented on Some Western Splatoon Players Would Prefer Not...:

For me the issue isn't playing with Japanese players. I've gone up against and schooled many Japanese players. No, the issue for me is facing a team of level 30-50's when I'm only Level 11. Especially when my team has levels close to mine. I feel like the matching system could be better in terms of pairing levels, not regions.

However I would LOVE a region only option like Mario Kart. My connection isn't the best and having the option to have a more stable connection with those closer to me would be nice. And don't try to tell me the lobbys would be empty if it was just regional. Splatoon is super popular and sold really well in America. If Mario Kart can manage a region only online lobby, so can Splatoon.

AlternateButtons commented on The Piracy of amiibo Now Seems Possible With t...:

@AlexOlney You're missing my point. I'm not advocating piracy. Stealing games with the R4 is wrong because they're full games and they're readily available. The price is justified and it is fair to the consumer. amiibo on the other hand, are rare, expensive, lock away content and offer limited storage on their figures. They're essentially a giant middle finger to customers. When we're given such little stock and are asked to spend 12 bucks a piece only to get screwed over by retail exclusives, you can hardly blame people for not wanting to pay for these figures that should ALL be common. Consumers deserve better and amiiqo offers a better solution with more storage options to boot. If Nintendo wanted to minimize the impact of piracy, they should stock their product better. This is a terrible buisness practice that they should've never taken part in and are absolutely horrible with how they're managing it. I don't think you can disagree with that.

Also, hello major editor of Nintendolife. I've been reading since about 2008. Glad we could meet under these circumstances. That WOULD be my luck wouldn't it?

AlternateButtons commented on The Piracy of amiibo Now Seems Possible With t...:

@FLUX_CAPACITOR Again, that's Nintendos own fault for not having good business practices with their customers. Aside from Mario, Luigi, Bowser and Peach, what amiibos ARE common? Everywhere I go, I see the same 5 or 6 figures. Do you know how many figures there are? Well Smash alone has the entire roster incoming. Can you honestly tell me just because a handful amiibo are easy to find justifies the fact that Nintendo are failing at providing customer satisfaction?

In Splatoon you have 40 missions in each Inkling figure. Each Figure has exclusive gear for your character. That's a lot of content to leave out. Mario Party 10 has a whole mode locked away on the menu screen. And Animal Crossing amiibo festival which is a whole game that can only be played WITH amiibo and if we're looking at Nintendos track record with stocking these things they'll be rare too. How about Code Name Steam and it's Fire Emblem characters that provide advantages you cant get anywhere else? You can't deny that valuable content is being locked away in these toys. It's not just one or two costumes, it's obviously going beyond that.

Not to mention, this device has the ability to store more than one figure in its stand which is something amiibo also fail to do. You need two Mario figures to play one in Smash and one in Mario Party 10.

I will not pay for a product that is not only rare, that is not only expensive, that is not only being sold at ludicrous prices by scalpers, that not only locks crucial content away but lacks features that more readily available products have. It's just like buying a third party GCN adapter. If it works, then I'm going for it. And I'm not going to be giving my money to a company that fails me as a customer. If Nintendo ever fixes this whole mess, and for their sake I hope they do, I'll buy legitimately. But until then, as a college kid with little budget or time to collect all these, I'm going for an easier, more reasonable solution. And you are noone to judge me. If you're going to preach to me, preach to all the Mother fans who emulated Mother 3 because they're in the exact same boat I am.

AlternateButtons commented on The Piracy of amiibo Now Seems Possible With t...:

@FLUX_CAPACITOR When the products theyre selling locks content behind them and they're rare, yes. For instance, why do you think Mother 3 is emulated so much? Because people want to play it and Nintendo refuses to provide a solution. If these figures were readily available, you'd bet I'd be lined up to buy them. However with ridiculous stock shortages and no solution in bound, I will get my solution from someone who will provide it. Is it okay to steal? Of course not. Do I want to steal? Of course not. I wont allow locked content to stay locked if an immensely flawed system is running it. If Nintendo doesn't want my money, then I won't give it to them.

Shovel Knight is so overrated.....I honestly don't get the hype for that game. it's good but not that amazing. Certainly not enough to warrant a roster spot. :/

Personally I want either Ice Climbers back because the game kinda feels empty without them or the Inkling since Splatoon needs way more love.

AlternateButtons commented on Guide: Everything We Know So Far About Nintend...:

It seems like a good compromise between going completely third party smartphone and sticking on dedicated hardware. I'm fully for this actually. So long as Nintendo's hardware stays as the primary outlet for games, and smartphone games serve as a a secondary platform that enhances these games, I can only see this being a good thing for Nintendo.

AlternateButtons commented on Poll: Which Nintendo Franchises Should be Prod...:

CGI and 2D animation would be the way to go for most of Nintendos IPs since they are cartoony themselves. I for one could never imagine a live action Kirby. Only Nintendo franchises with a realistic feel such as Metroid, F-Zero or The Legend of Zelda should get the live action treatment.

AlternateButtons commented on Review: Mario Party Advance (Wii U eShop / Gam...:

@thejfh1999 The story mode is absolute luck. You can literally run out of dice in five turns if you're unlucky enough. Limited dice supply? Really? Why is that a thing? most of the time you have to go around completing tasks for people but that is such an unnecessary challenge because of the limited amount of movements you can do. The mini games come rarely and when they do they're short and boring. There's not a single memorable one in the bunch. Also, the lack of multiplayer which has always been Mario Party's strongest asset, is barely there. There's so little do to and you can't even set up a standard party if you want. It's just driving around hoping to not run out of gas. This game is terrible and is NOT Mario Party.

AlternateButtons commented on Video: Super Mario 64 Is Getting A Fan-Made HD...:

I'm sorry but this looks ugly as sin. The environments look okay but the character models have waaaay too much shine to them and they are totally expresionless making them seem dead. Not to mention, Mario's walk cycle is ripped straight from the original game so it looks really awkward in HD. I know it's a work in progress, but you should never show unfinished work. That's just sloppy.

AlternateButtons commented on Rumour: Villager, Marth & Wii Fit Trainer amii...:

If this is true, then it's one of the stupidest marketing moves Nintendo has ever done. The game hasn't even been out for a MONTH and they're already discontinuing figures? I'm sorry but that just doesn't make any damn sense. If this is really true.....then they've really lost it.

AlternateButtons commented on Inflated Prices and Limited Stock Cause Frustr...:

@Einherjar Actually yes, those are just hunks of pastic that you'll only use once and never again! Great example! Oh and on top of that, they weren't eighty freaking dollars.

And Nintendo clearly stated that the adapter will only work with Smash Wii U. They ruled out and possible usage for future games. it's ONLY for Smash. You can't even navigate the Wii U menu with it.

AlternateButtons commented on Nintendo Might Not Be Making More GameCube Con...:

Nintendo....are you kidding me? Those adapters had SO much potential but it's all wasted being exclusive to Smash. No Virtual Console, no optional future use, no backwards compatibility to GCN games; they're hunks of junk as it is. NOW you won't make more? Nintendo I love you, but some of the decisions you make are really bone-headed sometimes.

AlternateButtons commented on Masahiro Sakurai Explains Why Mewtwo Isn't Pai...:

It's really baffling to see people getting upset for having to buy both versions. Yeah it does cost a lot of money but since it's reveal at E3 2011, (Back when development hadn't even started) Iwata and Sakurai alluded that buying both versions had the best benefits. You can transfer fighters, you have exclusive modes, you have more controller options, the 3DS version you can take on the go and play Smash WHEREVER YOU WANT, the Wii U version you have a ton more modes and options to play. the player having both versions so that they could interact with each other is a vision Sakurai has from the start and if you don't see the value in it, especially now since you'll be getting a long awaited returning veteran, I don't know what to tell you.
