AcesHigh73 commented on Watch Dogs Stares at a November Release Date o...:

@Kyloctopus — agreed, I don't quite 'get' the Ubi-haters. Sure they've mucked us Wii U owners around a fair bit (read: a lot), but they've also brought us some of the systems standout third-party titles...

  • Rayman Legends
  • Child of Light
  • ZombiU
  • Assassins Creed IV

Don't get me wrong, I'm not their biggest fan by a long shot, but I don't hate them either. And like @Kyloctopus, I certainly won't entertain simply boycotting them. That ain't right.

[NOTE]: If anyone at Ubisoft happen to be listening, I'd dearly love to add Valiant Hearts to that list of great Wii U experiences!

This delay — and Ubisoft's inexplicable silence — has been poor form to say the very least, BUT... along with Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta 2 and Super Smash Bros, I'll most likely be all over Watch Dogs when it's finally let off the leash, regardless.

And you never know, if the price is right (£39.99, max), I may even grab it on day one! 'Stranger things' and all that.

AcesHigh73 commented on Somebody At Ubisoft Really Doesn't Like Mario ...:

A cut and paste from a comment I made on another NL article:

"Like many Mario Kart purists, I was initially horrified at the news that the hideous Mercedes GL SUV would be cluttering up our favourite MK tracks, but having since seen that the DLC also includes one of my favourite cars of all time (the utterly gorgeous 300SL Roadster), I'm more than happy!

The inclusion of the German car makers formula racing Silver Arrow is another fabulous addition for petrolheads like myself. Indeed, for me, the 1930-1960's era brought us some of the most beautifiul cars (and bikes!) ever to grace the earth.

Speaking of bikes... perhaps this is going too far, but I'd kinda like to see a properly old skool MV Agusta cafe racer and maybe a 1930's Harley flathead DLC package later...?!?"

AcesHigh73 commented on Poll: Which Is The Best Super Mario Platformer?:

Don't get me wrong, I adore pretty much every last one of Mario's 2D and 3D platforming adventures, but for me, 3D World isn't just the latest, it's also the greatest!

Still, seeing as we gamers do love a good 'Top-X' list, here's my personal top 5:

1. Super Mario 3D World
2. Super Mario Galaxy 2
3. Super Mario World
4. Super Mario 64
5. Super Mario 3D Land

This kind of thing (what would we call it – an endless rhythm runner, perhaps?) isn't really my type of game, but as with any Wii U eShop exclusive, I'll endeavour to keep an open mind until I've checked it out for myself.

AcesHigh73 commented on Watch Dogs Will be the Only "Mature" Ubisoft G...:

@Laxeybobby I'm absolutely with you buddy. Except for my Vita, I only own Nintendo consoles and as such, I've bought both AC games, both Call of Duty games, both Batman games, Splinter Cell, ZombiU, Mass Effect 3, Resident Evil Revelations... ... the list goes on. I'll certainly be grabbing Watch Dogs too. Oh and while obviously not 'mature' in nature, I also bought sports titles, FIFA 13, NBA 2K13 and NFS: Most Wanted. Thanks for repaying the love EA, Ubisoft!!

Ps, hey Ubi, why no Valiant Hearts for Wii U? I really wanted that.

Having only recently bought a 2TB HDD (£59.99, Dixon's) in order to liberate enough space to take advantage of the free game offer with MK8, I'm finally spoilt for choice and not confined to 'just' physical retail purchases. With that in mind, I'll certainly be picking up ACIV (maybe ACIII too), Splinter Cell and ZombiU on Thursday. I already have the fabulous Rayman Legends and Child of Light.

AcesHigh73 commented on Legendary Actor and Comedian Robin Williams Ha...:

To read this news this morning is absolutely devastating. As a 40+ year-old gamer and movie/TV-fan, I have just the fondest memories of Robin Williams. Such a genuinely funny and great man. I only hope that something positive can come out of such tragedy, such as a deeper understanding of the profound effects of depression.

Particularly as someone who lost his parents within just seven weeks of each other — while still in their mid-late forties — back in 1999, and who has struggled with depression and severe swings of excessive ups and downs ever since, my sincere condolences, thoughts and prayers are with Zelda and the rest of Robins family and loved ones.

My own children, aged 10 and 18, and my loving wife of 20yrs have kept me grounded for many years, and without their love and support, I genuinely believe I would not be here today. I thank them from the very bottom of my heart and sincerely hope that Zelda can find similar comfort in the weeks, months and years ahead. The pain of losing a parent in such tragic circumstances never leaves you, but it does dim. Ever so slightly and ever so gradually, God willing, it does dim.

RIP Robin Williams

AcesHigh73 commented on Dakko Dakko Confirms Development of Update for...:

Man, we gamers — myself included — do like an update for our favourite titles, don't we?!!

I'm not sure whether it's the prospect of a great game getting even, erm, greater, or the fact that it reaffirms that the developer is invested in both their product and their fans — which is becoming increasingly rare these days — but either way, a good update flat out rocks!

Bravo Dakko Dakko, can't wait to dive back in to Scram Kitty when the patch goes live.
Oh and by the way, good luck with all that testing, guys! :-)

AcesHigh73 commented on Mario Kart 8 Update & DLC Scheduled for 27th A...:

The TV map display and changing 'next race' to the default option post-race are two fantastic upgrades, as is the ability to monitor your coin count. I just wish they'd also add an option to map the accelerator button to the ZR trigger — then I'd be super happy.

Oh and one last thing, I'd happily pay top dollar for some new tracks and character DLC. Cranky Kong, Prof E Gadd, Samus, Kid Icarus and the Star Fox crew would be *smash*ing :-)

Lovin' that screenshot. Xeodrifter you say? I'm in.

*** Just one other Renegade Kidd related point — is Mutant Mudds Deluxe ever realistically likely to release on EU territory Wii U eShops, or should I give up on that one and just get over it? ***

AcesHigh73 commented on One Classic Mega Man Game Is Coming to Wii U E...:

@JoakimZ You're absolutely right, it can be incredibly frustrating when your favourite game(s) fails to offer an option for customisable controls — or at the very least, an alternative layout or two. For me, Mario Kart 8 being a perfect case in point. Why can't I use ZR to accelerate?!! Sooooooo frustrating!

I'm a big fan of (most of) the Mega Man games, but more than anything else, I'm really hoping for Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana to make their way to the Wii U's VC service. Hands down two of my absolute favourite third-party SNES games.

AcesHigh73 commented on Did You Realise Lone Survivor Was Coming to Wi...:

Lone Survivor is a wonderfully atmospheric retro-enthused survival horror title, and entirely worth double-dipping for — I enjoyed the hell out of it on Vita last year — so come Q4, it'll have a home on my GamePad too (kind of off-topic, but: come on Nintendo, give us folders already!).

Curve's continued Wii U support is just awesome. Hey, here's hoping Mike Bithell's, Curve-published, Thomas Was Alone is also U-bound. Fingers crossed.

AcesHigh73 commented on Review: Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse (Wii ...:

Okay, sure we want N64 and GC to fiiiiiiinally come to the Wii U Virtual Console party, but in the meantime, I for one am more than happy with timeless NES greats like Dracula's Curse... At least I would be if it was on the EU store!

Oh and by the way, for those that've not yet got round to it — and are up for a pretty stiff challenge! — Kid Icarus is another fantastic NES classic.

AcesHigh73 commented on Nintendo Download: 24th July (Europe):

@Nintendzoey Having had to sell my 3DS XL as a makeweight for the purchase of my beloved Wii U at the back end of last year (with it's steady stream of awesome indies, I just couldn't part with my Vita — I know, shoot me), I'm hoping to finally replace it this summer. And you know what Nintendzoey, I think you're really onto something by plumping for a North American system.

Indeed, three factors are pushing me towards investing in a US XL:

—1— First up, eShop games are generally cheaper than their EU counterparts. Plus, as I almost always download my handheld games (both eShop and retail), there would be no issues concerning not being able to play EU carts.

—2— Another factor is that I'm often left frustrated by the fact that so many great eShop titles are launching in America so far ahead of the rest of us. If I did have a US 3DS at my disposal, I'd already be playing two of my most anticipated games on any console, namely Shovel Knight and 1001 Spikes! Ditto Wii U, I guess, but Cave Story and VVVVVV are another brace of awesome indies that would have been in my grasp a good year or so ahead of their eventual EU relaeases.

—3— Lastly, with my younger brother taking his family to Disney World, Florida for their hols next month, what a great opportunity to get him to pick up a bargain for me while he's over there.

But... what do my fellow NintendoLifers reckon? Am I being blind mad and foolhardy or a shrewd, proactive Nintendo fan?

ON TOPIC: Really looking forward to Wooden Sen'Sey on Thursday!!
