AK-1138 commented on Poll: Tell Us What You Think of the New Ninten...:

I'm digging it. While the original 3DS design is the most aesthetically pleasing, it's full of design flaws, not the least of which is the dumb "bottom screen making tears in the upper screen" crap.

My original is due for a replacement, anyway. Had it not been for this new model, however, I probably would have never gotten the original line XL to replace it. It looks too much like a toy for my liking. The new design is a decent compromise, and the replaceable design plates is a great concept.

I'm just hoping the N3WDS exclusive games will be few and far between; while it's not technically my problem I can certainly sympathize with those "left behind", as it were. And if it turns out to be a thing, I'm hoping it won't be any games that interest me. Luckily, Xeno's not one of them.

My money is ready.

AK-1138 commented on Poll: Which Is The Best Super Mario Platformer?:

Yoshi's Island is one of my favouritest games of all time, but it's not exactly a great example of a Mario-style platformer.

Now, Galaxy 1 was great, but it doesn't have the awesome controller setup of SM64, which I keep returning to annually. If the Galaxies are remade for Wii U for the GamePad or Pro Controller things might easily change.

Even though it technically doesn't apply to the 3DS, it's probably the same kind of thinking they have behind not releasing the obviously superior Advance versions of Super Mario 1-4.

"We already gave it to you."

SMB2 is unplayable without the Advance additions, man.

AK-1138 commented on Silicon Knights Loses Appeal in Epic Games Law...:

Twin Snakes is a great remake (though I can't blame you if you prefer the original), but Silicon Knights deserves very little credit for it. The same reason you wouldn't give credit to BluePoint for their MGS HD remakes.

So that leaves basically only the half-baked Eternal Darkness to their credit then.

The fact that a sub-mediocre game such as Phantom Hourglass sold as much as it did is nothing short of mind-blowingly terrible. Those are some "glory days" I hope shall never return. Another great game like ALBW will surely undo the damage done to handheld Zelda, though.

AK-1138 commented on Feature: Nintendo Games We'd Love to See in 2014:

As much as it is is completely irrelevant to my interests, the fans deserve another Metroid Prime game. The N have got a good amount of franchises that they more or less, ignore.

Oh and a Rosalina game would literally give me cancer. She's already featured in a number of games she doesn't deserve to be in. I always found her unengaging and unrelatable.

That's hardly fair towards the Xbox One. It should be pitted against something more in its league, like... I don't know, making stamps from potatoes?

AK-1138 commented on Award Winning Zelda-Themed Short Film, "Escape...:

Eh, amateurish if you ask me. The Zelda sequences were cringe-inducingly bad. I expect glaring factual errors when it comes to video games from big Hollywood films that can't be arsed to bother, but filmmakers that have their feet planted more firmly on the ground are given much less leeway in this area.

The subject is a good one and I'm sure a few more than a few gamers could relate (a friend of mine certainly might) but it seems more like a case of this being mostly unexplored territory rather than it being an outstandingly well-made short.

AK-1138 commented on Video: Just Look For The U On The Box, Nintend...:

Well, Nintendo may well be guilty of hubris as far as sales expectations compared to advertising effort is concerned, but this is definitely a step in the right direction. They're actually learning from their mistakes. Mucho respecto.

(Of course, this is somewhat similar to what people said about the 3DS about a year and a half ago. Time will tell if the lesson sticks this time.)

AK-1138 commented on Feature: 12 Days of Christmas - EarthBound Esc...:

The most shocking game moment of all 2013... no contest! Thought we'd see Yoshi's Island (hint hint, Nintendo) released a hundred times over before EarthBound would even be mentioned in the context of the Virtual Console.

'Tis why we game.

Never was a big fan of Deluxe. Gimped the gameplay and trolled you with an annoying lessened field of vision. Added a bunch of bells and whistles.

I'd rather have the original, non-deluxe, non-JP remake version.

AK-1138 commented on Adventure Time Video Game Soundtrack Available...:

So, Mighty Switch Force was unforgettable. Strange, somehow, I... can't remember it. As in, not a single note sequence pops up in my head. Game had a lot of good things going for it (that didn't pan out all that well in the end) but the soundtrack was generic, at best.

AK-1138 commented on Industry Analyst Predicts Disappointing Outcom...:

With the behemoth the game industry has become, people are just plain losing perspective. Being a distant number three in this particular game climate doesn't equal insta-death... at all. Think about it like inflation.

Nor are they losing their magic touch with the games themselves. Just enjoy Nintendo gaming for your own sake, and just plain ignore the haters and biased "analysts" who either don't know what they're talking about, or are being all negative-tastic to amass some clicks. Or hey, maybe they're just jealous 'cause they're missing out on what's far and away the best first-party content in the industry.

AK-1138 commented on TIME Lists Its Reasons For Picking Wii U Over ...:

It's a no-contest for yours truly, as well. Those are all really good reasons, and while the guy is obviously a Nintendo fan at heart, the points given are all pretty objective.

Gotta get the PS4 to get the stuff what doesn't come to the Wii U, though. But not until they've lowered the price to something a bit more sensible, and it doesn't double as a frying pan 90% of the time. Xbox One? What a joke. It's only in a world like this that that... thing didn't go the way of the Virtual Boy.
