Previous Nintendo launch titles include, Super Mario Bros, Super Mario World, Super Mario Land, Super Mario 64, now for the GameCube's launch we get Mario's brother!? WTF!

Luigi's starring debut is a fairly linear beast, basically you go from room to room in the mansion, sucking up ghosts in your souped up vacuum cleaner. The game is fairly easy and could be finished in a weekend. However, there are a few things that caught me out, and I would happily discuss them in the channel =)

In the game you have the option to choose Dolby Surround, which seems to be the trend in many GameCube games. It's used well with ghosts screaming, or booing whatever, behind you. There is, it seems, only one music track throughout the course of the game, it's a catchy little number that you will hate to keep humming. Even luigi hums the tune when it dies down in a room you've already cleared.

Amazing graphical effects and touches punctuate this game. You can use your vacuum on all of your surroundings including tablecloths! The rating you get when you finish the game is based on the amount of money that you 'collected' by searching for coins, notes, or gems.

After playing through the game you will have the option to play it all again in a 'hidden mansion' which, I believe is harder than the 1st time through. I say believe because I got tired of it and went back to Waverace ;)

Conclusion

A nice game with enough good bits to keep you going till the, all too soon, ending. After that, your copy will most probably start to collect dust, like mine.

6/10
