Given its success and cult status however, it’s interesting to note that very few people have actually played NiGHTS. Shuffle your way onto Internet message boards and you’ll find that very few people have even heard of the game, let alone played through it time after time.
You see the thing that made NiGHTS so brilliant for me was that it almost had a sense of romance. Similarly to a Tim Burton film, NiGHTS could capture emotions and fantasy and encapsulate it into a dream-like world. NiGHTS had the power to move you through different emotions. NiGHTS gave you that warm-fuzzy feeling you used to get when you were young and your parents used to read you fairy tales. But do you know the best thing about NiGHTS? It’s making its long awaited return on the Wii this year.
NiGHTS on the Wii plays pretty similarly to its Saturn counterpart, placing you on a predetermined route set from the side to give the game a 2D on 3D feel. You use the analogue stick to move left and right in order to collect orbs, fly through hoops and to track down a bird that is flying off into the distance. The main objective is to get a hold of the bird and wrestle a key from it moving you onto the second part of the course.
The game plays somewhat like a racing game but there are elements of action, puzzle and platform mixed in there – it’s a mash-up of genres which should allow the game to appeal to a wide range of players.
As you work through each level and capture the bird – the perspective of the level changes – so one minute you will be floating around above the water and the next minute you will be plunged into it. Graphically the game isn’t astounding but the colours and artistic style makes the game pretty and adds to the atmosphere of what the game is trying to achieve.
The game also feels extremely fast - everything is animated superbly and as you rush past all the different colours that make up the backdrops you can almost feel the sense of urgency rush throughout your body.
Each level provides a mixture of objectives which will enhance the replay value of each stage once you’ve dealt with the main plotline so there is little danger of NiGHTS: Journey Of Dreams feeling underwhelming.
Given its enchanting storyline, rich graphical textures and luxurious score – NiGHTS: Journey Of Dreams will be one to watch this Christmas.

I remember this one from the Saturn days, it was easily one of the most original titles around at the time. However, it's gonna be very hard to capture the magic the original had.
I've pre-ordered it, naturally, but I'm gonna approach with caution, I'm hoping it'll be great, but I'm quite nervous its gonna be bad!
