I am cautiously optimistic about New Pokemon Snap. Will need to see some reviews first. I loved the original though and am so excited to see a sequel. I hope it is really done justice.
Was SUPER hyped about the Republic Commando, but will be waiting for a patch or major sale before I buy that one.
The more time passes, the more I'm interested in Cozy Grove. Looks quite charming.
I want to get New Pokemon Snap for shopping time in May 2021 but i have to get KeyboardMania 1 + 2 PS2 quickly.
Not really anything I'm too interested in, a few of them I don't even know anything about, but I'd borrow New Pokemon Snap! from the library to entertain me for a few hours. Still hoping for Labo camera or VR support for a year first.
It's the year of the backlog, so I'm ok.
Nothing that really speaks to me. I'll likely get New Pokemon Snap at a later date as I really enjoyed the original when I played it on the Wii U VC a few years ago.
I'm interested in the Trails of Cold Steel series in general thanks to both III and IV now being available on the Switch, but both their length (according to HLTB) and the fact that it's supposedly best to play the earlier games to "get" what's happening makes it a hard sell for me.
I picked up Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity last week, which I'm enjoying a lot more than the first Hyrule Warriors. Nothing new coming out for me, so aside from that I'll be working on the backlog.
Where is my Miitopia. Jokes aside I'm gonna have to get New Pokemon Snap, and possibly some of these indies.
Edit: Lol nvm just saw that Miitopia is May
I remember seeing a game with children on rafts, collecting trash. Anybody know what I’m talking about? I wonder how it turned out.
OK, there's those ones .... and where are the exciting ones?
I’m excited for Republic Commando and Pokémon Snap. Keep the classic Star Wars games coming. Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2 would be great. No reason for them not to be on there.
Even better would be the original Star Wars Battlefront games from 2004/5. If they brought those with couch co-op and online support, wow that would be really cool.
Just Pokemon Snap for me. I'm using this year to clear up most of my backlog and it's been going pretty smoothly so far. This and Mario Golf are probably all I'll be picking up until the holiday season.
I want to get pokemon snap due to my love of pokemon but watching the trailer and reading the premise of it just sounds and looks so boring and be finished in about 4-5 hours. And I know it will never go on sale as nintendos games never do especially pokemon.
Got a few weeks to make my mind up
@fluggy no cap. R Type maybe that's it for me
Cautiously feeling a maybe on Pokemon Snap, mostly because I might play it with my son.
For me, it's all about New Pokemon Snap, I'm definitely looking forward to playing this game.
Could anyone tell me how one would go about getting into the Trails series? I have never played any of the games, but they seem really interesting to me. Can you describe them in a way that avoids spoilers? Maybe compare them to some other games or tell me the main things people like about them. I would much appreciate it.
The only game that's of my interest in April and is a sure-fire buy (unless if the reviews have something to say about it) is Smelter. And if finances smile, Atelier Sophie DX.
New Pokémon Snap is looking cool, but I don't know how I feel about putting more than $30 on it. Yes, I have played the original on N64 and as neat of an idea it was at the time, it doesn't seem to be anything more beyond being a glorified mini game, in my opinion.
The rest on that list is whatever to me (though I'd really like to check out Falcom's Trails series).
I'll probably pick up Pokemon Snap at some point but honestly there's not a whole lot I'm interested in right now. Most big releases that I know are confirmed for Switch are a long ways away or don't even have release dates yet.
Which is no issue for me, I've got a nice big backlog to keep me busy for a good long time!
Well, I hate to Rain On Your Parade (ha) but I don't see a lot here.
lol. Sorry, not to be too negative. I just had to do it.
@somnambulance same here.
That's definitely a plus, New Pokemon Snap will have a lot of replay value, with the oldest kid (he's five).
Stoked for Rain on Your Parade and Battle Axe, been looking forward to those two for a while.🤘🏻
Eager to see how well they integrated Fuse's story into SaGa Frontier, as well as Asellus' complete tale. I hope they kept her well documented undertones intact.
Curious to see Pokemon Snap, too.
A bit curious about SaGa Frontier remastered, never played the original but this one has a chunk of new content that was cut from the original release. Gotta wait for reviews and decide.
Battle Axe looks like a masterpiece, and it's in a genre that doesn't have much competition. I guess you could call it the Gauntlet genre. I'm definitely getting that on April 16th.
Republic Commando is a great game so I'll be buying that too. On April 16th, because I'm in a backward country where games come out late (when they come out at all).
Pokemon Snap, R-Type F2
Need reviews: Poison Control, Cosy Grove, Battle Axe, SaGa Frontier
Probable sale purchases: Republic Commando, Trials of Cold Steel IV....
(All above were already on wishlist bar Battle Axe)
New Pokémon Snap day one. R-Type looks interesting. Will probably pick up Trails IV later on.
@NoTimeForBS first of all you will need either a ps3, ps vita or ps4 to play the first two games.
It uses a turn based system with each character using a different weapon type and you can move around in battle to aim your attack at specific enemies.
It also has a social element like persona in between missions where you can walk around your school and town and accept side quests, go fishing and choose to spend time with certain characters to raise your bond.
The story is heavily focused on war and military and you are in the top military class and go on field trips etc, enemies range from monsters to soldiers to mechanic weapons.
There's a lot of lore between all of the games and each game easily takes around 80 hours to get through everything
The fighting is like eternal sonata and Hyperdimension games and the story is pretty decent and a lot to it, definitely also a LOT of reading, the ps4 versions of 1 and 2 had better graphics and way more English voiced dialogue added to the game
My girlfriend has been begging me to buy New Pokemon Snap for us to play together so I know exactly what I will be getting! Been too long since I have played a game like Pokemon Snap!
Currently only the New Pokémon Snap game (already pre-ordered) for me.
@Tyranexx @NoTimeForBS I have played through Trails in the Sky FC, SC, Cold Steel I, II and Cold Steel III so I hope my advice means anything to you. In Cold Steel III and IV there are also a lot of references to 2 other games in the series that were never localised so I haven't played them either.
Generally it is recommended to at least have played Cold Steel I and II before playing III.
However, if you have no means of playing Cold Steel I and II I think III is still a good starting point. You may miss out on a few references and you won't know the backstory for some characters but it's nothing too big. There are many returning characters from older games but at the same time I don't think there's anything so complicated going on that you wouldn't be able to figure out the gist of it in III alone.
If you are really worried about it you can also simply watch a story recap of the games on Youtube or read the text in-game before starting your playthrough.
To me, the battle system, setting up characters and completing all the stuff in the game is the most fun anyway. The story and characters are nice but the gameplay is actually what makes the games good I think.
Be aware that a playthrough can easily last 80+ hours, has a ton of text and even some missable quests and other stuff. I generally hate missables in long RPG's but I can tolerate it in these games but that's something to take into consideration.
So in short, if you are interested in Cold Steel III and IV but haven't played any previous game don't let that stop you!
@NoTimeForBS I won't be a definitive source of information on the Trails series for you, but I did play one some years back. It wasn't the Cold Steel series, but the one before it I think. It was for the Vita.
Personally, I severely disliked it. The translation is horrid. They basically literally translated the Japanese script, which in my opinion REALLY doesn't work, because the Japanese have a very different way of conversation. I won't go into too much detail but let's just say they could've cut the entire script in half if they just deleted every sentence that started with "In any case" or any of the variations to that. If you watch a lot of subtitled anime you will know what I mean.
Gameplay and storybuilding-wise I also really disliked it. I think the best comparison I can think of is that to Breath of Fire 3. Just like BoF3, the Trails game I played had way too many filler dungeons, combat was grindy and rather basic, and it took way too long focusing on silly sidequests. I remember having to defeat a bunny that was stealing carrots from a farm.
In short, the Trails game I played was a mid-90s RPG but bigger.
I simply do not understand the hype surrounding Pokémon Snap. The original was BARELY even a game and you could 100% the game in a few hours, and most of those hours were just from replaying the same few levels. Even with the lovely new coat of paint, this game (to me) is nowhere near being worth $60. Maybe it would be worth $5 - $15, but there is no way on this green earth that it will ever drop that low. 🤦♂️
Waiting on that cozy grove review! Xxx
>11 Exciting New Games
uhm, you call these exciting?
The demo of R-Type Final 2 was pretty underwhelming. Coupled with the rather high price point, the rest of the game will have to be amazing.
Pokémon Snap will probably end up at our place at some point
Too busy with MHR this month for any new purchases.
Nice list. I'm trying to find a pre order for pokemon snap under 42 quid. Usually one of the cheaper online retailers has a good deal on new releases, but struggling this time.
@Lony85 My son’s three, so once I see enough where I know he can play it, I think I’m sold on it, regardless if the concept still sticks for me, personally.
Read the article twice and still can't find the 11 exciting titles. Clickbait title?
@Daniel36 @noutBr @UltimateOtaku91 Thank you guys for taking the time to write your thoughts. It is good that I got to see opinions from both sides. I am not bothered by lots of text and I do like rich lore and well written characters and plots. Persona 5 was also one of my favorite games of all time (and it had lots of reading/dialogue) along with Fire Emblem 3H so the social aspects sound great. I also have a PS4 so access to those games would not be a problem. They do sound and look interesting to the point where I would probably want to start from the beginning and experience it the proper way. The only real problems I have are lack of time and my towering backlog. :/
@NoTimeForBS ah I see so only option would be to play them really slow, I think I read that the next wnrty in the series follows a different set of characters so there's no real rush. Also to speed things up you could always play the first couple on fhe easiest difficulty to breeze through the battles and just focus on the story
@noutBr Your feedback is appreciated! Unfortunately I don't have a reliable means to play the first two TOCS games; I believe they were released on the Switch in Japan, but no word on other regions yet. If I were to jump in, it would likely be with III. My backlog is robust enough that it'll be some time in any case. I am glad to learn that I wouldn't be missing too much in skipping some of the earlier games. Though I will probably look up summaries of at least the first two titles.
@NoTimeForBS Same here, I managed to play through all of those games I mentioned back to back in the timespan of a few months. It helps that I have a Vita so I could remote play the PS4 games while the wife watches TV.
All of this despite having a lovely wife, 2 kids, Golf and a 40h workweek.
It just takes some dedication XD
Whoops! Forgot Snap 2 was coming out this spring, for some reason I thought it was coming this summer.
R-Type 2 Final for sure even though I’ll probably still suck at it! ☺️
Not actually buying this month as my truck is sick. However, trails, saga, rtype and pokemon snap are on the list.
other than New Pokemon Snap. i'm mostly focusing on older games currently.
Not interested in anything this month.
Friendly Reminder that the Aterlier Mysterious Trilogy also comes out this month
Nintendo still working hard on Switch Pro games I see, as they've virtually abandoned the Switch I can play catch up on the backlog. As long as my Switch games run on the pro I'm good!
