Streets of Rage 4 is easily one of the best beat 'em up games we've played in a long time, but as noted in our review, the campaign is a little on the short side - especially if you're not interested in replays or chasing down perfect ranks.
One solution would be DLC. So, what are the chances of it happening? On the same Twitch livestream where the Guard Crush team spoke about how Sega turned down the idea of Joe Musashi from Shinobi being added to the game, the developer touched on downloadable content.
According to a translation by DualShockers, Guard Crush has "some" ideas in mind for possible DLC. However, at the moment, no downloadable content is officially in development, and it's not even sure if it will go ahead with it.
Some new levels, characters, and even a mode or two wouldn't hurt. What do you think, though? Would you like to see some DLC for Streets of Rage 4 later down the line? Share your thoughts below.

DLC would be nice. Maybe some more levels as I can't see anymore characters being added.
How about retro characters be given a SoR 4 makeover and added to the roster?
@majkdaryn Are you sure you're posting in the right place? You're making no sense.
I wouldn't mind seeing some Golden Axe characters in this game; I just hope they could get Fyris Flare in without censoring her bikini. Also, since to the motorcycle level was cut from Streets of Rage 3 (and I can't get the patch for it to work on emulators), I think it would be cool for that to be put in.
SoR4 is one of my favorite games this year so far, so more content is certainly welcome.
First and foremost, more stages. Second more playable characters, including retro ones. And third, add the Streets of Rage 3 OST, since the soundtracks from the first two games are in the new one.
@DrDaisy Yeah...I know...
It’s a great game but more levels would always be welcome. Some SoR3 content would be especially cool.
Forget DLC and get working on Golden Axe 4 😁
Streets of Rage 4 is in my opinion, the best beat em up ever made by a considerable distance, topping even the mighty Final Fight on the Mega CD.
More levels would be nice. As for characters, bring back Skate/Sammy.
Normally I'm not the biggest fan of DLC, but yes, yes, yes I want DLC for SoR4. I'd like a reverse story arc where you fight as the bad guys and the bosses are the SoR good guys.
Would also love to see a Skate that is 10 years older.
Or screw the DLC and just get to work on SoR5!
I’m all for more playable characters and levels. Also, I might be in the minority on this, but I would love if your character could walk a little faster. I found it to be an annoyance, albeit not a major one.
I hope they improve the online play first. Make it more jump in and jump out as well as network stability. As for DLC, please give us the missing SoR3 characters like the kangaroo.
Then go make a Golden Axe 4
Definitely. While it’s a good length for a beatem up, it still doesn’t last you a long time if you’re just playing it thru and trying out a few characters. Some new story would be great and I’d love to see skate, roo, and max in the modern graphic style as it just would fit better in the game world.
I think some good DLC would be to make Stella playable (I was actually thinking she'd be an unlockable character). Also a modern Sammy/Skate would be nice. Also, wasn't the kangaroo (I believe his name was Roo) playable in SoR 2 or 3? I think they should also release more classic tracks, or maybe modern remixes of classic tunes... I feel like the player select theme is rather iconic and prefer that over the new one. Plus, I really like the stage 1 theme of SoR1. Lastly... I think the supers should be stronger... I didn't really find them that useful during the boss encounter.... not in the way they were in SoR1, at least.
sings Mariah Carey Make it hapuuuuuuun, YEA! 😂 If they drop some meaty DLC, I’ll go ahead and buy the game.
DLC for a...beatemup?! What crazy universe do people live in? Back in my day you played the same damn beatemup till the cows came home!
If they want they could try and include the Comix Zone guy in there too. He seems to fit in very well with the Streets of Rage cast. Heck they could make a level dedicated to Comix Zone too if they want.
Yes!! Bring it on! I would probably buy any and all DLC for this game.
This game is so great I’d gladly pay for more of it.
@NinChocolate Dude it's 2020, gaming has change just like how the world has change. If you still live in your 80s/90s bubble then go retro cause modern gaming is not for you.
@retro_player_77 This was a joke i hope.
Just give us SOR4 Shiva and Max. Would be more than enough for me.
@nessisonett
It already has the dancers, gunmen and annoying level gimmicks like bottomless pits from 3 but I guess they could toss in a bulldozer, robot x and a minecart level.
@retro_player_77 It's pretty clear he wasn't being serious.
I usually hate dlc, but I love sor4... So I'd like to see new levels, modes and characters😊
@retro_player_77 "Dude it's 2020, gaming has change just like how the world has change. If you still live in your 80s/90s bubble then go retro cause modern gaming is not for you"
You do realize that your username is retro_player, right?
LOL
I want aftermath stage, 4 more stage and fight the revive Mr X.
I'd love more stages/characters. I also think the walk speed could do with a small tweak. I Know they had issues with getting some cameos from Sega Games, but I personally think it would be great if they did a crossover with Yakuza. Have a level based on kamurocho with Kazama Kiryu and Goro Majima as unlockable characters
@nessisonett
Sounds like we'll be lucky just to get DLC characters. An older Skate designed for SoR 4 and Estel added to the playable roster is good enough. After that, hopefully they start planning for SoR 5. Looking at how it's trending on the E-Shop I'd imagine this game is selling well enough to warrant at least one more entry in the series.
Give it more content please, whould love more levels and better online play think about joining and leaving a match.
I’m fine with no dlc I think the game is generous with what’s there anyway. Please remake either golden axe, Shinobi or . . . . Alien Storm! I need to sit down now x x x
Please make Golden Axe 4 and DLC for SOR4
Funny how they redrew shiva and max for bosses and have redrawn sprites sin the character biographies but both are only unlockable in retro form.
No, don't make it happen.
Just put those ideas into a Streets of Rage 5.
Come on guys. You really need to give us some DLC content, I've clocked the game with everyone and have stopped playing now. Also the only reason I clocked with every character was to unlock the retros. I would not have bothered as the ending is the same for everyone. Please add different ending for each character, would not take alot. Even just some slides if you can't be bothered with animation. Also loads of potential for DLC, more characters, new Skate, Shiva, Max, Roo Zan, Ash, New Character. Looking at the map of the Wood City you have loads of scope to add new levels. Another mode that you should add is user plus CPU mode. Your alternate character drawings should be added as DLC looks for characters. Floyds bearded heart tattoo look is amazing! You could also add a time warp story mode. Your use of the arcade cabinet and taser was genius but you didn't take up the opportunity to add a story to that which would have been awesome. In short, add DLC, we WILL buy!
@DrDaisy golden axe characters wouldn't fit the style of SOR at all and would make it seem like a joke. Please don't do this!
Story Mode DLC campaign: "The Boss of Chinatown" w/ playable Shiva.
Do it! This has to happen! Pleaseeeeeeeeeeee!
How about a "free" update to celebrate the game selling gangbusters (like every gamer knew it would when they finally made it) with Joe musashi and the ideas Sega didn't approve.
Then make a new Golden Axe
It would be a shame to not see Roo get added after his background cameo.
@gamering They would need many more frames of animation drawn for all sort of different situations, as well as possibly an expanded moveset as compared to what they do as bosses. (this is what the lead artist said in a recent interview, it's basically not as easy as just plopping them into the character select screen)
Incredibly selfish of me I know, but I like having a physical game that I know is complete so I'd prefer a straight up sequel or separate episode (3.5 anyone?) than having a physical copy without the additional content.
It all depends how it is implemented too. I know DLC is largely optional but I hate when they patch a game for DLC and you can see the locked content referenced somewhere every time you get into the game. Fighting games are the absolute worst for this, usually having greyed out character slots to remind you that you're not playing the definitive version. Feel like it started with SF X Tekken and has gotten worse since.
I'm old school really. I prefered it when games came out and that was it. No patches. No DLC. What you got was what you kept forever. Warts and all.
@WrongChops You're going to have to just get over it. This is the digital age, all games will be like this going forward. Buying physical games is pointless, unless you're planning to resell it, you're always buying an incomplete package. And you can't expect the rest of us to be held back from enjoying more gaming because you are stuck in the past.
Shiva, Estel and Max are obvious choices since their movesets are already fleshed out. I would welcome them with open arms. Roo and Skate are fine, but Skate<Cherry and Roo's moveset is blah. I would love additional levels and even an endless wave mode, even a dummy mode to test combo runs. I will purchase whatever DLC they do. These developers fit in the Yachtclub Games category and need to be supported.

I think it started before Street Fighter X Tekken. It is hell of annoying though.
@SuperWeird just my personal opinion, which is what the comments section is or. The article asks 'Would you like to see some DLC for Streets of Rage 4 later down the line? Share your thoughts below.' I did. I'd rather not. I don't expect anyone to be 'held back'. Are the devs listening to me specifically?
Most of my physical collection is ready to go right out of the box as I don't like buying an 'incomplete package'. Most don't offer DLC and those that do, I'm disinterested in it (looking at you, Luigi's Mansion). Plus I trade in regularly and I like the boxes 😊
I said I was old school. I don't mind being 'stuck in the past'. I have an extensive digital collection too. I don't need you to give me a rundown of the state of modern game distribution. I know what's going on.
I'd just like my physical copy of Streets of Rage to be complete, like it's forebears. Follow your own advice, 'get over it' and have a nice day 👍😉
4 player online is a MUST
I hope it will be as a free update or atleast cheap.
4 player online co op
Roo is already done the n the modern style and he is literslly "locked" behind a bar. So may ng him unlockable seems natural. I was really hope ng they'd release the gay character from SoR3, but in the current PC climate (the other type of PC) I'm not sure that would go down well, which is a shame. They'd probably have to tone him down a little, which would be sad There are gay people out there like that.
I would like to see Roo. Maybe updated versions of Retro Characters.
We seen updated versions of Shiva and Max in the game let us play as those versions.
More Stages would be fun too. Perhaps a Part 2.
This game definitely need some dlc...I know it’s is holding to traditional beat ‘me up...but some rpg elements would be sweet....not necessarily character skills...rather account traits would be sweet...like five traits can be slotted...with enough diviersity for the need to swap out for each character select...this would increase replay ability...love the game...and want more period..
Wish list.
Shiva. He’s already in game with a complete move set and stats. And he’s not a bad guy this time, even his bio says he waiting for the moment to strike. Him being playable in sor4 form was a missed opportunity.
What the ***** has Sammy been up to?
Costumes! Oh man why not?
Possible higher difficulty in the form of stats not resetting between levels and no health items/ enemies will use health items.
Alternate routes with separate endings, additional cutscenes.
Customizable soundtrack!
I’d like to have (SoR4) Max, Shiva and Roo be playable. I’d also like (SoR4) Skate and Dr. Zan. Some options to switch up routes in the Story Mode and fight different sub bosses would be cool. Maybe a stage where the players use vehicles to combat baddies. An upgrade system would be amazing.
