If you're thinking about picking up Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town this summer, you'll be pleased to know that the game is now available to pre-purchase on the Nintendo Switch eShop - if you're in Europe, at least.
The game has popped up on the eShop for £42.99, ready for its big release on 10th July. The new listing reveals that the game will be playable in English, Spanish, French and German, can be played across docked, Tabletop, and Handheld modes as you'd expect, and will take up 999MB of space on your console.
We also have a batch of new screenshots for you. Enjoy!
We were also treated to a whole bunch of new screens back in March. If you missed those, we'd certainly recommend checking them out.
Are you looking forward to this one? Incidentally, a new Harvest Moon title was also revealed for Switch earlier this week.

Is this the game that's meant to have '2020 graphics'?
@Grandiajet More like 2000 graphics Am I right?
@Grandiajet That's the new Harvest Moon game who said that. No screenshots or other media of that game still.
This game here, is Story of Seasons, as in the "old" HM series (and the good one too)
If the graphics don't put you off then I'd suggest getting rune factory 4 instead
@Citano Thanks for clarifying. I didn't know they were different games.
@Grandiajet This sounds like a remake of the GBA "Harvest Moon Friends of Mineral Town" game.
This looks awful. The original might have been limited by the GBA hardware but at least managed to have some charm. This is just soulless.
@Grandiajet
Now, when you are looking for a game that used to be called Harvest Moon, find Story of Seasons as the Real Harvest Moon by Marvelous as the developer. In Japan it called Bokujou Monogatari (Rancher Story).
Natsume took over the Harvest Moon name and disgrace the name of Harvest Moon by keep persistent releasing crappy quality farming games that labeled as Harvest Moon.
Old Harvest Moon / Story of Seasons by Marvelous = Good
New Harvest Moon by Natsume = Blah
Anyway, looks cute in 60 fps. 😀
Will consider this game after July 2020.
@ballistic90
That's because that is exactly what it is.
I love the GBA original just like how I love the Super NES original. Can't wait to play this one again.
I’ll definitely get this at some point, the original’s a great game and with some QoL changes, this could be a real winner.
Sigh it feels like this one has taken so long to come out worldwide. Happy to see some more news.
@Grandiajet they kinda have completely different names though?
I saw a video and apparently this is a HD makeover of Harvest Moon Back to Nature from the PS1 is that correct?
This is what I am referring to

Ah, yes. The real Harvest Moon game.
I don’t understand how the Story of Seasons games look so bad all the time, like sure they might be good, but even Stardew Valley looks much better than this and Animal Crossing looks miles ahead - and yes, AC is not exactly the same genre, but if they could upgrade their graphics I don’t understand how Story of Seasons series can’t. No excuse here.
looking forward to this, although I still need to get the doremon spin off.
@Grandiajet
No, that's the new game with the actual Harvest Moon branding. I forget the full title for that one.
@frogopus I think the environment and animals are fine. It's the character models that get me. It's like a version of the Magical Melody models, which I didn't care for much either.
Oh well, as long as it plays well, I'll still enjoy it!
Can't wait! Planning on this being my springboard back into sim games.
@Eel As someone else said, they have interlinked histories. I haven't taken much notice of these games since the N64, so wasn't aware of the changes.
I wanted this but seems quite expensive.... Especially after getting rune factory 4 special for roughly half.
Still, may pick up one day for the nostalgia
The Art work looks fine but the game models look god awful in my opinion shame was really looking forward to the updated back to nature 2020 edition some of the art work upgrades look really good.
@ballistic90 yes, story of seasons is in fact a remake of story of seasons.
i love harvest moon, and its nice to have a new game that looks decent. But since stardew valley came out, it fills the hole that all the HM fans needed. And it beats HM by miles away with all its content. So as for me i feel weird to play another HM game, cos i feel it lacks content etc.
But i guess i just gotta try it for its simplicity, and for the sake of nostalgia playing FOMT
i think 43 quid for a remake of a gba game with meh graphics is too much, 25 quid maybe
As it is, looks like a rom hack of N64 game that's been upconverted to look HD.. After playing Animal Crossing especially, switching to this would be jarring. I might give it a chance as I was looking forward to it but it sure is ugly.
@ballistic90 it is a remake. And it's made from its original developers hence the name change.
I'm certainly no graphics afficiando, but this game is flat out ugly for no reason. They should have just went the Stardew Valley route and went with sprites and a more inspired art style.
@Grandiajet Story of Seasons is the new name for Bokujou Monogatari / Farm Story. It used to be called Harvest Moon until Marvelous Inc, the Japanese developer, cut ties with their international English distributor/localizer. Unfortunately, that company (called Natsume, even though it's an American company and unrelated to the Japanese company also called Natsume) retained ownership of the NAME Harvest Moon, so not only did Marvelous have to change the name of their long-running franchise to Story of Seasons and confuse fans... But Natsume started making some worse-than-mobile quality shovelware games at their studios in California, selling them under the NAME Harvest Moon, even though they're not part of the Farm Story franchise and they're not made by any of the same people. Tons of people, even fans of the franchise, still don't realize these last couple of games called Harvest Moon are just garbage cash grabs trying to trick people into buying them on name power alone.
Now.. if these games using the Harvest Moon name were actually any good, that would be a different story. But they're truly, remarkably bad. Just look up Light of Hope on the Switch and see what I mean. The game featured in this article is a real entry in the main series, but it's also basically a budget remake of the classic Gameboy Advance game, Friends of Mineral Town (which itself was a demake of the PS1/N64 game, which was essentially a remake of the original SNES game). So it's not going to be the next real new entry in the series and it will be pretty simplistic. It's more just for big fans of the original wanting to see the same characters, the same town, the same events, etc. The core team is hard at work on Rune Factory 5, which is still slated for a release this year.
@SEDEK Yeah. Harvest Moon/Farm Story/Story of Seasons always had more charm to me than Stardew Valley, but Stardew undeniably has more gameplay and better mechanics. Just... more everything. It's hard to say how I'd feel about a new REAL Bokujou Monogatari series game, but they've also not come out with any new mainline games since I first played Stardew Valley a few years back.
Honestly, I've been really curious about how one would turn out, but even the games they've released/have slated aren't really it. They did the remaster of Rune Factory 4, now they're remaking a GBA game and having seen a lot of footage, it definitely is simplistic by comparison but it's also mostly true to the GBA original so I didn't expect otherwise. Hopefully Rune Factory 5 will blow us away but they haven't even debuted screenshots yet of that. As for the next true core game in the series, we'll just have to wait and see if they even announce one.
@Ryu_Niiyama I’d recommend getting it on sale - although the watercolour graphics are adorable and the game is very reminiscent of the older HM games, it has some balancing issues and requires WAY too much mining to progress. For reference, I played the game for about 60 hours, and I spent about half of that time mining for ore; it got so tedious, it eventually made me stop playing.
@MBII No one is forcing you to marry your same gender, keep your homophobia to yourself.
@Jooles_95 That's fine. I've been playing bokumono since the snes. I don't mind the grind. I have it preordered already. Besides I have to support the samesex marriage options. I am hoping so hard this will be a permanent addition to the series. I would drop Stardew so fast...
@Ryu_Niiyama Sorry, I meant the Doraemon x Story of Seasons one! That’s the one I’ve played and is grindy as heck. I can’t wait for this one, I haven’t preordered yet but I’ve been heavily hinting at my SO that I would like the game, since it comes out a week before our anniversary. 😂
@MBII that’s rich coming from you, You openly salivate over fictional female characters and whine about their physical attributes like a horny schoolboy.
Keep your homophobia to yourself, you ignorant little creep.
I love the Mineral Town games but this art style is a real turn off. I'll likely still get it anyway though.
