Sega is currently celebrating its 60th anniversary and is having a whale of a time making off the wall videos to celebrate Hiroshi Fujioka, an actor who played the role of Sega Saturn's mascot back in the day. In the video above we see his son Maito Fujioka reprise the role of the biggest Sega fan to grace the school playground.
As the video goes on, it gets stranger and stranger. Here's the translation courtesy of the folks over at Siliconera:
Girl 1: “Sega Shiro, is that a Switch?”
Sega Shiro: “It’s Sega! (Game Gear – released in 1990)”
Girl 2: “Are those sunglasses?”
Sega Shiro: “It’s Sega! (Sega 3-D Glasses – released in 1987)”
Girl 3: “Is that a backpack?”
Sega Shiro: “It’s Sega! (Sega Saturn – released in 1994)
Girl 4: “What is it that you’re always wearing?”
(Enter flashback scene)
Segata Sanshiro: “Sega Shiro!”
Sega Shiro: “Father…”
Segata Sanshiro: “Bring it! Stronger! Master your Sega!”
Sega Shiro: “Sega! Sega! Sega!”
Segata Sanshiro: “See you.”
(Segata Sanshiro blows up, exit flashback)
Sega Shiro: “Father!!!”
Girl 4: “Look over there!”
???: “Sega is so outdated!”
Sega Shiro: “You asshole!”
Sega Hatan Shiro: “Go bankrupt! Go bankrupt! Go bankrupt, Sega!!!”
Sega Shiro: “Father, I will protect Sega!”
As Sega's 60th anniversary approaches on 3rd June, we look forward to more Sega Shiro antics in the upcoming weeks. If anyone can save Sega from bankruptcy, it's surely him!

Well that was insane but I definitely want to go give money to Sega now.
I still would welcome and day one bit a new Sega console. It would be awesome
That was absolutely hilarious.
EDIT: Apparently this kid is the actual son of Segata Sanshiro IRL - so that makes the video even more impressive.
@Shinobi1Kenoby Seems like it's never going to happen, and I haven't tracked how many of the Genesis Minis were sold (great little dude), but it strains credulity that there wouldn't be nostalgia buyers lining up around the block to grab a Dreamcast 2. I guess maybe that's not enough — kids today wouldn't have that draw and there are only so many retro gamer pseudo-adults like myself willing to open their wallets.
Although the Sonic movie did make a lot of money....
God I love the Japanese
Take a bow sega, you’ve done well. Please make VF 6 now.
I'd watch a full show like this
Hahahahaha, this is madness
Please...please...PLEASE...let that be the one and only Segata Sanshiro.
New Sega must revive and save old Sega.
Bring back Jet Set Radio and you'll have my money Sega
@rdm22 pseudo adult? Are you not an actual adult?
It is somewhere close to 99.99999% likely to never happen that Sega will ever release a console again. But should the day ever arrive that the Sega “fill awesome name here” should ever launch along with launch titles like:
Virtua Fighter 6
Street of Rage 4
Panzer Dragoon Drei
Golden Axe
Sonic the Hedgehog 5
Sega Rally 3
Virtua Tennis
Beach Spikers 2 (yes this deserves a sequel)
Shinobi IV Revenge of the Ninja Master
Yakuza
Jet Set Radio
Football Manager
I’m also sick of EA Sports and actually rated the Sega Sports line in the 90’s, particularly NHL 2K, NBA 2K, World Series Baseball and NFL 2K. I’d love a direct competitor to give us an alternate option for all sports instead of being monopolised by EA year in year out and the garbage the drop out.
Then THAT is a console I’d definitely buy
@Shinobi1Kenoby lol beach spikers, nice shout out, I used to play that loads on gamecube
That was amazing and super funny. Yet, I still want Nintendo to buy them. Muahahahaha!
I like how they are keeping this going, its pretty amusing.
We are also celebrating! Shinobi! https://youtu.be/dFSj1pDBkKc
@Shinobi1Kenoby Ha! — real in terms of age; psuedo in terms of mentality.
Also good game list.
Ooohh the days that Nintendo and Sega had the Console wars. Those where the best days.
Is that AC-BU art?
We need a switch game where you go back in time to stop sega from releasing Sonic 06
@Shinobi1Kenoby with you on every game on that list. A Phantasy Star Online 3 and perhaps Afterburner would go on my list too. Perhaps a new Outrigger for PvP multiplayer fans too. Headhunter 3 for an open world adventure. Let's face it Sega have an upper tier IP for every genre.
I have a cool idea for a future Sega Shiro commercial. Have Sega Shiro make a time machine to save Segata Sanshiro teleport him to present day right before the missile Segata was on explodes. Later commercials have those two together. What do you think of that idea?
When I read "Father!!!" I heard Matt Barry's voice from the IT crowd instantly.
Segata has a son now in cannon! I love it!
Yes, Segata, I will do my part! proceeds to buy entire Sega Ages line
I FREAKING LOOOVE THIIIS
Absolutely hilarious 😂
@Shinobi1Kenoby
Plenty more you could add to that:
Skies of Arcadia
Alex the Kidd
Golden Axe
Daytona Usa
Crazy Taxi
Outrun
Phantasy Star 5 (not PSO)
After Burner
Echo the Dolphin
Fighting Vipers
House of the Dead
Virtua Cop
Nights
Shining Force (a proper one)
Virtual On
It amazes me that they don't make use of these IPs even they just licence them out to eager devs.
Love the commercial.
If Sega wants my $60+, just make a new Virtua Fighter game!
How exactly have they been around 60 years?
@Tempestryke
And Nintendo is 130 years old. Both Sega and Nintendo are older than the console business, and they did other stuff before consoles and computer games.
Sega Satun mini by am2 would be lovely & a heap of Gamegear games on Switch.
Maybe Sega wouldn't even be joking about going bankrupt if they had better upper management dating back to the late Genesis and Saturn. The stories of their meddling in the projects of the development teams (causing some truly amazing devs such as Team Camelot to leave), bungling of localizations (Panzer Dragoon Saga only had 3,000 copies made for the entire NA market, and those 4-disc monstrosities used PAPER SLEEVES to hold the discs inside the case, and they only bothered to localize Scenario 1 of the three-Scenario Shining Force III, leaving Western gamers with a perpetual cliffhanger), their bad treatment of third-party publishers (Working Designs is single-handedly responsible for bringing so many beloved games that MADE the Saturn and Sega CD for many gamers, yet Sega relegated them to a back booth at CES/E3, so they jumped ship to Sony), and forgetting to add any copy protection whatsoever to the Dreamcast are literally the subject of books. And of course since they left from making consoles they've had an almost completely myopic focus on Sonic. The mismanagement of Sega is legendary among longtime hobbyists, and considering where they stood in the industry at their peak, it's easy to argue they've fallen further than any major publisher (including Konami) that's still in existence.
I am not 100% sure on the Japanese variants but it is a bit strange that Sega has never done a special edition or limited edition color or design for any Nintendo hardware.
I mean they had a Panzer Dragoon Xbox for Japan...
Amazing. Simply brilliant.
@ecco6t9 not sure if Nintendo would trust them to be honest.
Save Sega from going bankrupt? Sega Shiro should get rid of Sega's board of directors first; that would be a good start.
@mesome713 but why though?
They're not even that good at making games, they have a few good IPs they don't do anything with because they lack the imagination or talent to drive big projects forward.
Their not even on par with the biggest game developers.
If Nintendo purchased Sega outright, it would be ONLY for a handful of IPs and there's no telling if Nintendo could make anything good from them anyway.
I use to like Sega but they haven't made a solid game to make any real waves in years, if at all.
@Morph They brought back Crazy Taxi a few years ago, but....
....Suffice it to say it wasn't exactly what fans were expecting.
@Shinobi1Kenoby while I agree there needs to be competition in regards to sports games the reason why 2K stopped making all of the other ones outside of basketball ones is they didn't sell all that well compared to EA's games and for some reason in the modern market right now there is no room for two major games based on the same sport outside of Fifa and Pro Evolution Soccer it's the same reason EA stopped making NBA Live the market for sports games has died outside of a guaranteed release on a single game.
@rdm22 there’s a sizeable niche to re create existing hardware. They were on to something with the 1:1 Saturn controllers, if they were to start re producing dream casts and saturns in decent numbers (because a lot of the optical drives are biting the dust) they would definitely Sell out quickly. I would buy two of each and I know plenty More that would.
On another note I make it a habit to purchase any sega merchandise from japan I can get my hands on. They also sell out moderately fast.
@Zenszulu 2K games was killing ea sports so bad EA actually bought out the market because they couldn’t compete, which is why 2K couldn’t make any more collegiate and mlb/nfl sports titles.the NBA was the only league that didn’t take the deal hence nba 2K destroying live for the past 15 years. It wasn’t that the market couldn’t handle multiple games, it was that live has just been that bad until like a year ago.
Now That may change, since the nfl granted 2K a non simulation football license and may possibly not renew ea’s license if it sells. Maybe
@Razer I don’t think you know segas ip Library. It’s huge and nothing to scoff at. Just the Atlus catalogue is worth enough and if you can’t think of a game yourself, remember, sega owns bayonetta.
@Razer Nintendo is just that amazing g. They are the gods of gaming, they can develop any game. Plus would be first time ever we have a good Sonic game.
Oh God how I love some Japanese CMs ❤️
“Sega HATAN shiro” instead of the old “Sega SATAAN shiro” OMG that is brilliant stuff right there. Can’t wait until Sega Shiro triumphs and the villain is unmasked!
I was living in Japan when the old Segata Sanshiro commercials were running on tv, during most of the geeky anime I watched. Using Fujioka-san, the revered Kamen Rider actor, to bully school kids into playing their system was hilarious. Only the Pepsiman commercials seemed nearly as cool at the time.
Thank you SEGA and NL for this laugh today. 😂
It's freaky how much Sega loves referencing Segata Sanshiro. Wouldn't be surprised if he's still referenced in commercials 60 years later.
Do not turn on the Auto-Translate captions...
Segata Sanshiro returns!
That was amazing.
@Shinobi1Kenoby I still play Virtua Tennis 3 on my 360. I'm not sure if I would buy a console for a sequel, but hell ... I just might actually, given the number of games, that came after and managed to get even close, which still clock in at just around .... 0,0000 If they added another Panzer Dragoon into the mix, that would enough for me and I only really got into that with Orta on X1 rather recently ^^
Awesome. Come on SEGA! YOU CAN DO IT! 💪😬 Be strong
A Dreamcast 2 would be amazing.......
@Zenszulu that was nearly 10 years ago and EAs products have gotten worse, now would be a very opportune time for somebody to release a competing brand. The online community and customer base for EA sports is one of constant negativity and loss of confidence in EA to develop a quality product anymore.
@Strictlystyles No argument from me. I would buy them, too.
Remakes of Panzer Dragoon Saga and Zwei please.
Japanese companies? They just don’t know how to milk their Ips
Dreamcast had a nice 56k modem to play Phantasy Star Online
@Strictlystyles yeah but the problem is, a lot of their IPs are dead IPs that haven't been touched in years.
Nintendo would need to buy them and rebuild them. It would cost quite a bit of money to do that.
With Nintendo's brand recognition and the quality of their own games. They can create new IPs from scratch and it'll be just as good as the IPs they would get if they purchased Sega.
It just wouldn't be worth the effort or the money for them to do that.
@Razer I still think you’re underestimating segas brands and ip’s, a lot of which aren’t actually dead
Sakura wars
Super monkey ball
Bayonetta
Shenmue
Puyopuyo
Football manager
Yakuza
Phantasy star online 2
Two point hospital
Alien isolation
The yakuza spinoff judgement
Catherine
Fist of the North Star
Valkyrie chronicles
Warhammer
Total war
Streets of rage
Panzer dragoon
Shining
These are all franchises that are alive and well for sega and are producing some quality games, and I’ve barely mentioned the atlus titles. I think you are stuck in the past about who sega is as a company right now.
To be honest, would of been better if he held up a Nomad instead of a Game Gear. THAT was the Switch before the Switch. But then again, that never released outside of North America.
@dres I know Nintendo did, but I had no idea Sega existed as anything other then a gaming company, which is why I asked.
