Swimmingly

If you played Animal Crossing: New Leaf on 3DS and are now taking your first steps on your new desert island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you may well be looking forward to diving into the lovely HD ocean of the Switch entry in Nintendo's life sim series.

The question "Can you swim in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?" was one of the first that popped into our heads as we ran around the perimeter of our lovely island paradise. However, the answer might come as something of a disappointment...

So, can you swim in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?

Well, at the time of writing it appears that, no, you can't swim in Animal Crossing on Switch. After playing the game for a fortnight, we have yet to stumble on any method allowing us to enter the ocean in the way we could in Animal Crossing: New Leaf on 3DS.

It's a little surprising, to be honest, and this being Animal Crossing we can't be 100% certain the ability doesn't exist somewhere in the game. It certainly seems like an odd omission given that you could don a swimsuit and dive into the drink in the previous mainline game.

Whether there's some hidden item or Nintendo plans to add the ability in an update some time down the road is unclear, and we'll be sure to update this article with any information we uncover. At present, though, it seems that no, you cannot swim in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Sad faces all round.
