Remember last August when Nightdive Studios said the 1999 Acclaim classic Shadow Man for Nintendo 64 and multiple other platforms had a chance of resurfacing on the Switch? Well, dreams – or should we say nightmares – do come true. Nightdive Studios, in partnership with Valiant Entertainment, will be bringing a "fully remastered" edition of Shadow Man to Nintendo Switch and all other modern platforms in 2021.
According to Nightdive's CEO Stephen Kick, the goal is to give today's generation of gamers "all the features that they expect from a modern title" while preserving qualities that made Valiant's iconic character and original Shadow Man game so memorable in the first place.
The title is being updated using Nightdive's proprietary KEX engine, which has previously been used to restore games like System Shock: Enhanced Edition, Turok, Turok 2: Seeds of Evil, Blood: Fresh Supply, and Forsaken Remastered.
The remaster will also include "reintroduction of missing content cut from the original game", refined gameplay, art, audio and assets, pro controller support, higher density particle effects, antialiasing and other post-process effects, dynamic shadow mapping, and dynamic per-pixel lighting.
For anyone who hasn't played this title before, it's a third-person action-adventure game where you travel between the Liveside and the Deadside (the place where lost souls spend an eternity in torment) as the brave and powerful supernatural hero Shadow Man. His job is to stop a marauding band of villains from unleashing unspeakable horrors upon the world.
Have you been waiting as long as we have to return to the Deadside? Tell us in the comments.

Great news!! I loved this game back in N64. Hoping they rework it right!
I AM THE LIZARD KING! Much excite!
No way! That’s awesome!
Well, that's the right studio to do it. Not sure if I want to take off my rose tinted glasses tho.
Still have my original copy and loved this game, Acclaim always was one of my favourite publishers for the system as the games on it really stood out on a technical level. It's good to see them getting resurrected for a new generation and they aren't being lost forever because of a defunct publisher. Wouldn't mind them doing Extreme G next.
Come on, slowpoke!
I loved this game on my N64. had such a foreboding atmosphere. Voice acting was very hamed up though 😆
Played it on N64 before getting it on the Sega Dreamcast! I still have it! I’ll gladly get this if there’s a physical release
Okay this is good news. Very good news. This game was considered the evil twin brother to OOT on the N64.
It's a classic.
Yes! This game was awesome.
I remember playing on the n64 and the dialogues were so out of Nintendo's 'kids' recommendations lol
This is awesome news, looking forward to playing this. I would like Blood: Fresh Supply on consoles too!
Yup I want.
and yes nag box thats all i have to say !
I beat this game 100% 3 times on N64. Which is no small feat. It's a fairly massive game I still think that this was one of the most satisfying and addictive backtracking I've experienced in a metroidvania.
Great game on N64. I will probably get the remaster. Easily I can recommend this.
Neat! That's a PS1/N64 classic.
This was one of my favorite games on N64, and one of the view that kept me engaged until the end. Usually I'd get bored and go on to a different game. I'll day one buy this to show the developer some support. Usually I wait until they are on sale. NOW PLEASE someone re-make ETERNAL DARKNESS!
@AhabSpampurse isn’t Jim Morrison the lizard king? X x
Come on slow poke!
Awesome news ^^
@JayJ
The ps1 port is ...abysmal to put it politely
The PC version has weird controls.
But the n64 and Dreamcast versions are the way to go.
( I got the DC and PC versions.)
Wow, after N64 and DC it‘s time to do the Deadside Dance again on Switch.
Oh HELL YEAH! Wow...out of nowhere!
Getting this it was superb on the Dreamcast
Welcome back slow poke.
Wow.... Must buy, loved the original on the N64. The nostalgia is high with this one as I put many hours into the N64 version.
This game is so dope. Loved this and Soul Reaver back in the day.
An excellent game from the past.
YES YES YES !!! One of my favourite games ever !!! Played it on N64 and then on Steam. I’ve never played a game with a better atmosphere. I just hope they fix the controls because the character was as stiff as me when I read this news (sorry).
Ok brain, let's make a deal. You get through half your backlog in 2020 and I'll buy you SHADOWMAN FOR SWITCH in 2021. That way you might even play it!
...
I'm going to buy it anyway, aren't I.
@AhabSpampurse
You're a little puppy dog
Now there's a remaster I didn't know I wanted
On an unrelated note but the same era I would love to see a Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver and Soul Reaver 2 remaster.
Yes yes yes! Been wanting this and Turok 3 to come to Switch, having so much fun with the first two Turoks
Yeah, but is Two-econd coming?
@PhilKenSebben it's actually alright, man. I went back to the DC version recently and the mood/atmosphere holds up pretty well. The controls are a bit janky now, but it's definitely still a good blast.
I hope they address a lot of the issues with it. I’d be down for playing it again if they do.
Yes,yes,yes,yes one of my favourite games ever oh yeah.I still have copy of N64 and Dreamcast release
@Dragonslacker1
It was a reference to ....jack the ripper in the game I think
Don't quote me on that.
@AhabSpampurse
DC is the best Console Version i'd say.
Wow serious this game whas great back then.
Hope they do some magic.
Beautiful.. 2021 can't come soon enough for me!
Haven't played this game much. Well I was young, that explains it heheh. (I think I got rid of my N64 copy of it, but can't remember.)
This is a game to look back in with rise-tinted glasses. Ir is nowhere near as good as we remember.
Fantastic! absolutely loved this way back in the Dreamcast days,
@CupidStunt Finished it few months back on my N64.Still good.Next DC version(better soundtrack,there is some music missing on N64 version)If you loved the the game back then you will love it now.
Another remake 🙄🙄🙄🙄
@CupidStunt Correct. Its insanely hard with a terrible checkpoint system(you restart the level every time you die). Hopefully they fix this for the re-master.
This game was one of the gems in the N64's library, this game is the stuff of nightmares and yet never gets mentioned alongside the old skool resi games or silent Hill.
I always intended to get the Dreamcast version but now I don't need to thanx to this remaster.
Now if only we could get a Duke nukem zero hour remaster
@AhabSpampurse nice! Thanks.
Very good news and should help appease all the people I see in the comments here asking for N64 games. What about Blood and Forsaken though? Put those on the Switch please!
@Zenszulu Didn't even think of Extreme-G. Remastered versions of the N64 entries(1 & 2) would be awesome.
@quinnyboy58 From what I understand, Nightdive is not going to remaster Turok 3 because there was no PC version of it. Although I really don't buy that as a legitimate excuse. Nightdive's conversion of Doom 64 is literally dropping this Friday and there was no PC version of that game...
@vio Extreme G was the ish. I liked Extreme G2 better though. It's TRUE most N64 games were janky but considering they were our first true 3d games we overlooked all of the jank 😂
@Bizzyb I absolutely love the 1st Extreme-G. I fell in love with it the very first time I saw it running on a demo display at Target. Call me crazy, but I actually prefer it to F-Zero X. Extreme-G 2 had a lot of slowdown and framerate issues(which could be fixed with a new remaster), but is really good too.
Based on the recent ports of Forsaken and the Turok games, I don't expect the to be very good even with the so-called enhancements (polygonal graphics age horribly), but if they can tweak the controls properly, I expect it to still be a blast. I don't remember if the characters' mouths moved when they spoke in the original, so if they didn't, I hope that's one of the enhancements they make to the graphics in this port.
As for Extreme-G (as mentioned in a few other comments), I wouldn't mind seeing a modern port of that as well. I wonder why the "remake" of Forsaken didn't show up on Switch.
@vio Turok is definitely a game that could benefit greatly with performance and graphical enhancements... and red blood. Green, grey, and brown just don't cut it for me.
Oh nice!
I always wanted to play it back then, but only had the demo on PC.
First it was XBONE having more N64 games than Wii U for a little while, now its more 3rd parties having N64 Games on Switch than Nintendo!
Time to launch that N64 App me thinks Nintendo!
@Mordridakon Even then there was not that much going on from what I remember
