Untitled Goose as GOTY is a joke but Mario Kart Tour as best racing game is an insult to the industry

Imagine giving Mario Kart Tour the win when it isn't even the best kart racer nominated.

When you have games like F1 2019, CTR:NF, and Dirt 2 and you pick the worst game.

I'm happy for the Untitled Goose, that game was suppose to be a joke game but became such a fun experience it's hard not to love it.

Imagine being a finalist for Racing Game of the Year (Crash Team Racing, Dirt Rally 2.0, F1 2019, Trials Rising) and Mario Kart Tour wins. A mobile game hahahaha.

Goose Game is a meme... There were incredible achievements in game design this year and the meme takes the top award.

Mario Kart Tour was the best hands down. I still play it sometimes when waiting in line for stuff. It's not as good as Mario Kart, but it's way better than any other Kart racer.

Also, Fire Emblem ftw, greatest game ever made.

Considering how many awesome non-AAA games go unappreciated every year, it's a tad frustrating to me that this one meme'd its way to the top of the pile so quickly.

UGG was fun for the three hours it lasted, but I don’t see how something with so little content and zero replay value could possibly be GOTY. It wasn’t even some sort of phenomenal three hours, more of an amusing novelty.

Not to crap on the game, but seriously? GOTY? Over Disco Elysium, Outer Wilds, Control, and even Death Stranding? What an insult to the gaming industry. I'd rather have Mario Kart Tour take GOTY than this.

Oh, and UGG also won "Outstanding Achievement in Character". Seriously?

Happy to see Fire emblem three houses take another award.

Untitled Goose Game is a novelty with a catchy title, and that’s it. If it was truly GOTY, then I’d fear for the industry.

Mario Kart Tour was disappointing enough that I played it for only five minutes and then deleted.

Outside of those two, the rest of the awards look genuine...

Is Untitled Goose Game the best game of 2019? Probably not. Is it the most relevant game of 2019? I'd argue it is, and I'd argue that makes it a worthy GOTY contender. Death Stranding hype died down quickly after the actual game was revealed and released. People were honking about Untitled Goose Game forever. It was a meme because, deep down, it resonated with people; it was a very simple concept pulled off very well. It's short, yes, but more games could stand to be a bit shorter. I'd argue it's better for games to leave people wanting more than for them to overstay their welcome.

I haven't played many of the other games, but Baba is You and LM3 absolutely deserve those awards.

@CoastersPaul I know the term "Game of the Year" is very broad but I doubt relevancy is what makes it. Especially since Disco Elysium was praised a lot.
