If you like to keep up to date with your music industry news, you're probably well aware that the Grammy Awards 2020 have just taken place. What you might not know is that the surprise star of the show - in our eyes, at least - was a Nintendo Switch console.
You'd have thought that playing video games while in attendance at the awards is probably frowned upon, never mind the act of taking your console up on stage, but that's exactly what Davon Wilson, known as Jasper Dolphin (like Dolphin?!), did when accompanying Grammy winner Tyler, the Creator to collect his award. The console wasn't immediately noticeable, but fans soon picked up on a neon red Joy-Con poking out beneath Dolphin's hand.
Of course, the next question that jumps to the mind is 'what was he playing?', and thankfully the rapper has answered that very conundrum on Twitter. As for which game specifically, we're none the wiser.
We imagine Nintendo doesn't mind the appearance one bit - how often do you get the chance to have your hardware seen by millions of viewers for free? Let's hope this is the start of a new trend...

what dat boy? jasper he is? he playin, poke i swear
Igor is great, but a rap album it is not.
The guy has the name of the most famous Nintendo emulator in the world. Of course he has a Switch on stage.
Temtem will never appear at the Grammys, lol
Switch + Tyler the Creator = Double Awesome! IGOR is one of last year's best albums.
Eafquake has always been one of the best rock type Pokémon.
Now for the ever-burning question: which Pokemon game? One of the Let's Go games, or Sw/Sh?
Either way, I doubt Nintendo is worried about the free publicity! XD
Is it just a coincidence that someone named Dolphin has a system from a company that had "Dolphin" as the codename for a previous console? I think not.
Seems to be a bit unprofessional, but I know nothing about the Grammys, how prestigious they are, or what the atmosphere is supposed to be like. So I guess my claim is just baseless conjecture?
With all these award shows I like seeing the list of nominees and then winners but I have zero interest in watching the show.
Gotta Catch em all! All the time!
That perfect IV competitive shiny team won't breed itself!
A man of tastes, you could say.
I'd rather eat my shoe than attend the grammys....
If only someone had rushed the stage and challenged him to a Pokemon battle...
@JHDK Same. The only awards show I've actually watched was the Game Awards last year and then that turned out to be a colossal wate of time, so I won't be doing that again.
Talk about free advertisements to Nintendo that couldn't have show the scene even more. Way to go Nintendo I couldn't have done it better myself. Tells you what he thinks was important to him.
@JHDK Most attendees would rather be elsewhere, too. Award shows are marketing/trade shows. They're tedious to watch and probably even more so to participate in. In the era of social media, they also aren't especially powerful for messaging and branding with the public. So I get why someone would be playing their Switch during these things.
Obligatory "lol Grammys."
Not even playing the souja boi console at the grammies?
The Grammys are a joke, anyway. I don't blame him.
Ahaha! Hell yeah Jasper, I’d do the same exact thing 😂
I'd much rather play Pokemon than attend or watch the Grammys.
These silly award shows hold no interest from me. They almost never give award to anything I agree deserves them. More often I'm left wondering what possible criteria they use to decide things.
@Heavyarms55 Me too, I've always wondered what criteria they use to decide who wins an award.
“I was playing (insert name of non-announced game Name)” - Jasper Dolphin
@Orpheus79V No, Igorrr is great.
Just want to let you know that jasper isn’t a rapper
It’s that popular. Wow
Eventually, there will be a president playing Pokémon at their inauguration.
Not bad publicity
The only thing on that stage I know is the Switch.
@Zonark "I was playing 3D World Switch!" - Jasper Dolphin
Nice. Awards are always boring though, so this brightens it up a bit. And the free publicity for Nintendo is pretty great.
@Smashfan502 no Temtem, the MMO Pokemon-clone that just released on Steam and is coming to Switch.
@Smashfan502 lol...right over my head.
I’ve seen a few episodes, but just here or there. I’ve actually been getting back into anime recently so maybe I’ll go back and watch. I’ve been eying the Ninja Storm games. When the go back on sale I may pick them up.
