Super Smash Bros Ultimate

Nintendo's all-star brawler Super Smash Bros. Ultimate might not have taken out GOTY at this year's Game Awards, but it's at least picked up the best fighting game award.

Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America's president, took to the stage to receive this award on behalf of Nintendo and thanked Masahiro Sakurai and his team for their hard work and dedication:

To win this award, Smash Bros. Ultimate had to beat Dead or Alive 6, Jump Force, Mortal Kombat 11 and Samurai Shodown. Certainly not the easiest of opponents, and all of them with a rich fighting history.

This was the last we heard of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on the night, with Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice taking out the GOTY award and Luigi's Mansion 3 beating Smash in the best family game category.
