UK chart data is now in for the week ending 2nd November, revealing that Luigi's Mansion 3 has had a very impressive debut indeed.
The spooktacular game has become the fastest-selling physical Switch game of 2019, ahead of the likes of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening and Super Mario Maker 2, and its opening sales are 140% higher than its 3DS predecessor without even including digital. Of course, it helps that Nintendo released the game on a Thursday for Halloween - giving it a slightly longer opening weekend than other titles have received.
It couldn't quite get number one this week, though, with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare keeping that honour all for itself. It's interesting to note that Ring Fit Adventure is still selling strongly, staying in seventh place for another week in which 12 Nintendo Switch exclusives can be found in the top 40.
Here's a look at this week's top twenty all formats chart:

Even though I couldn't really afford it - I just simply couldn't resist buying it. Absolutely loving it.
@ImagineerNik so you could actually afford it then
It must have sold so well due to the Tesco deal is my guess, 2 for £60 was a no brainer for most and def got a lot of extra sales as Nintendo products dont tend to have sales when they go to £30 each as it covered pretty much all the must buys!
Also Luigi just came out so all the stores had stock of Luigi's mansion!
So Luigi's Mansion, a game that's only on Switch, was only beaten by Call of Duty, which is on Xbone and PS4 and PC too? (Does this list count PC numbers too?)
I'd say Luigi did pretty well.
Bought this, astral chain and zelda links awakening on Thursday, loving all of them but luigis mansion takes gold
Great result and a good game, it also proves that the Luigi's Mansion remake should also have been on Switch too
Love this, as I am sure a lot of other people will say this, but why can't they bring the first and second to the switch as a collection?
Man I thought Call of Duty had died out, maybe that was just my wishful thinking
@Bunkerneath Dudebros for the win, as usual.
COD is hanging in there
Stil its good to see that the NX is going from strength to strength.
I don't particularly care for "dudebrah" games
Also worth noting that Luigi came out on Thursday, so two days fewer sales.
Superb result, only getting beaten by one of the biggest multi platform games.
Well deserved too, it’s a fantastic game. Really enjoying it.
@Bunkerneath unless they completely mess it up, that will never happen. And even if, it might still sell (see fallout 76). Too many casuals are buying there annual fifa, cod, etc. That being said, i heard that people were pretty pleased with last year iteration (before the mtx).
Fantastic to hear that Luigi's Mansion 3 is selling so well, i adore the series so much, hopefully this will mean we won't have to wait so long for a fourth iteration, unlike the wait for Pikmin 4 lol
Good to see it doing well. I thought Luigi's Mansion 2 was okay but it never held a candle to the first game. 3 on the other hand is much, MUCH better and actually fixes all the problems I had with 2.
Havent got it yet, gonna wait.
But its not strange, call of duty is on PC, PS4 and xbox.
Mansion is doing great of it gets near a game thats on different consoles.
Imagine what would happen if Nintendo would release a game on all platforms lol.
@Toadie Pikmin4... I cannot wait to hear more about that game.
Luigi's Mansion 3 deserves it as it's brilliant as it's full of character, personality and humor.
The multiplayer has also surprised me as it's more fun than I thought it would be and it plays perfectly fine with randoms unlike Super Mario Maker 2 where most of the time it's been laggy.
Every time I see a list and see how high mario Kart 8 is I wonder why we haven't gotten DLC? Or are they actually making a number 9 which would slow the sales of 8.
GTAV is back in the top 10, it'll be interesting to see the results for Black Friday week.
@coxy100 If I don't have lunch for a week yes.
@ImagineerNik Whenever you start to get hungry, just lick the cartridge. You’ll retrain your brain quick enough 😂
It deserves to be in the top.
@gamer89
It’s a roaring success mate. It’s even ahead of FIFA.
UK retail launch sales:
> Luigi's Mansion 2: ~20,000
> Luigi's Mansion 3: ~48,000
Massive growth for Luigi's Mansion 3.
Luigi's Mansion 2 sold 6+ million copies worldwide. Luigi's Mansion 3 has a very good shot at 10+ million if this type of growth is reflected across most of the world.
Absolutely loving it pure Nintendo gold. Yet Edge magazine gave it a 7 what are they smoking!!!
Bought it, but didn't even open it, yet! Still have to finish Trials of Mana and then have to decide if I go for Luigis Mansion, Links awakening or Ring Fit Adventure...
Did anyone else get stuck in the bit just after u get the poltergeist. I couldn’t leave the basement/ car park for like 20 mins! I explored and interacted everywhere and then I notice the sign on the floor with the door into the screen! Felt like a loser that I am. A great game though lots of fun x x x
I like the game a lot, but I just can't get used to Luigi's voice in this one. In the first Luigi's Mansion you can actually hear him screech when he's scared. In this one its always like an monotone "aaaaaah" while his facial expression is terrified. It's like the 90's child actor screams from the Goosbumps or Are you afraid of the dark shows.
@Heavyarms55 a lot of big games refuse to release in call of dutys month. Legend has it that game destroys everyone else's sales figures... When it could just be everyone waiting for Black Friday and Christmas sales.
@HobbitGamer Went digital, so I can't even do that
Great game wish I had more time to play it.
hopefully Luigi's Mansion 3 sells more than Dark Moon
As always... Games that people are actually excited to play on Switch will sell well. No need for random excuses.
GameFly shipped me Links Awakening instead of LM3 so not had a chance to play it yet. But it looks fantastic. Classic example why I keep a Nintendo hardware in my lineup each Gen.
I bought LInk’s Awakening used (<$45), but I have no problems buying LM3 at full retail price. I will pick it up for Christmas, if not sooner.
The game bursts with charm, humor and art design. I find myself wondering around just looking at the environments. I'll be sad when the main story is over but I'll be back getting those crystals and Boos, in addition to playing with others online.
(The game supports chat via the NSO app a la Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.)
@gamer89
Given the difference in install bases and the size of the franchises (and you know, Nintendo sell some games digitally too) getting in between two of the absolute biggest releases of the year is a big success. Much higher than I expected. Yes there are some figures we don’t know about but against any properly calibrated expectations it’s done very well.
@gamer89
Meaningless is the logical conclusion of where you were headed. I assumed that from the first post.
Nintendo put a lot of advertising into the game so that would have helped alongside the positive reviews.
@BarefootBowser
Hey that’s your opinion but I disagree. Worth more than a seven hell This site gave it 9.
I'm loving Luigi and it's totally captivated my kids. I was helping my seven year old play earlier today, and I found myself getting a bit twitchy when he didn't pick everything up, or search everywhere! I'm like, "What was that over there? Maybe if you... or you could just ignore it and move on... that's OK... we can do that" <bites fist>. It's an easy nine for me. It's classic Nintendo.
@coxy100 haha kudos to you!
@BarefootBowser
I will agree to disagree, I used to buy Edge religiously years ago. Listened to there reviews far to much. If I would of read there review of LM3 probably wouldn’t have bought this quality title. Probably missed out on a lot in the past thanks to there controversial reviews. If I like what I like now it doesn’t matter what Edge say or yourself.
@ImagineerNik I don't even have enough money to buy a Switch console
I’m in love with this game. It’s better than both the previous Luigi’s Mansion games in the series.
I’ve been bouncing back and forth with The Witcher 3 and Luigi’s Mansion 3 on Switch, both of which are magnificent games. And it’s nice that I was actually able to get into The Witcher 3 this time- when I played it the first time at launch I remember the combat was horrible, but it seems they patched in an alternate combat style which has made all the difference. Plus being able to play anywhere has allowed me to stay invested in the game.
Also dabbling in a new playthrough of Trials Rising, testing out the amazing gyro added in Resident Evil 5 (The switch release is phenomenal- The Gyro in this game is better than practically any other game I’ve ever played with Gyro- It’s smooth without any jitter and a perfect 1:1 response- you don’t even have to tinker with the settings because they nailed it right out of the gate). The game also looks top shelf on the Lite, and Idk if it’s because the dips are just infrequent during gameplay, or if the final release is just improved over the demo, but so far it’s running great. Haven’t had a single issue yet.
Oh, and some Super Monkey Ball HD here and there. And tried out some Bloodstained and Saints Row 3 post patch. Both are in a much better state now. But I think I’ll hold off a little longer until they add that Gyro into Saint’s Row.
@sixrings I get your point. However, we already got DLC for Mario Kart 8, back on the WiiU. So deluxe has already got massive amounts of content for a Mario Kart game and any more would maybe raise the bar so much that no amount would be satisfactory for the 9th installment. It would make the next game's track count look paltry.
I'm more surprised Super Mario Party got its DLC scrapped. The board count in that game is saddening.
MediEvil remake at number 10 is a shame! Great game. Very true to tge original, but maybe that could be a downfall in a way.
@gamer89 Ahh, ok. Thanks for the info!
