So, if you haven't already noticed during your own playthrough of Pokémon Sword and Shield, the psychic-water type Slowpoke isn't featured in the Galar Region's Pokédex.
While it was believed this Pokémon had been removed, that's not entirely true. You see, the new curry recipes in Sword and Shield reveal Slowpoke actually appears as a cooking ingredient within this region. Yep, people located in Galar like to eat Pokémon.
There's a bagged treat referred to as Smoke-Poké Tail – commonly known as a Slowpoke's tail – according to a description in the game. On the plus side, the tail at least grows back.

When Game Informer originally asked Sword and Shield director Shigeru Ohmori if people in Galar were making sausages out of Pokémon, he replied saying he didn't know what was in them. This latest finding, however, confirms people in this region are indeed cooking up Pokémon.
It wouldn't be the first time a discovery like this has been made, either. An investigation last year found people within this universe also consume Pokémon byproducts, such as Miltank milk and Chansey eggs. Earlier entries in the series have also cited pocket monsters as "delicious" meals.

Slowpoketails were said to be delicious and indeed very edible since gen 2.
@Quarth I now have this sinister hypothesis forming that in Galar, pokemon not considered worthy of battling are farmed for food.
@NoxAeturnus I imagine Slowpokes are bred for meat in Galar, but don't exist in the wild.
As @Krisi said, I'm pretty sure a past game has mentioned slowpoke tail being a delicacy, for one.

@sanderev I'm pretty sure npcs have mentioned it I mean(isn't it in a dish from that one hotel in XY?) It's also been in the item description since forever in the games that it tastes good.
I don't remember much about the anime mention offhand. I DO remember very early on in the anime, in that shipwreck episode, everyone was dreaming up ways to eat the Magikarp that James got conned into buying. I thought it was kinda disturbing, heh. 👀

Pretty sure Farfatche'd were said to be going extinct because an Pokedex entry or NPC had said they were hunted for food and yet they run frequent in Pokemon Shield?

I must be honest now I am craving some brazed Slowpoke tail with some Bulbasaur salad on the side.
Pokémon have been on the menu for a long time. Slowpoke was eaten back in GSC and I believe there's a library in Diamond & Pearl with books about eating Magikarp and throwing the bones into the lake.
Basically Bulbasaur is a vegan snack.

Haha that's a neat little tip. Weird how slowpoke isn't even catchable in the game, but he is eaten...... Unless Galar has been eating the rest of the non catchable pokemon, to the point of extinction?

Yes it is a delicacy .... And illegal in Johto (and I'm assuming Kanto as well). That's the whole plot in GSC, (that I remember ) we had to fight the evil team to stop from this illegal selling and capturing

@NoxAeturnus you might say this is why we never see a slowpoke in the game; their all hidden in the super secret facility where their bred for food, unbeknownst to the general public who are ignorantly unaware that most everything they eat was originally a pokemon.
Clearly they are imported from Jhoto since that's where the slowpoke tails are the most popular at! #Gold&Silver(&Crystal)
@Anti-Matter the PokéDex entry says that the bird is inedible but was hunted down for its leek for that is the actual real delicacy wanted in culinary arts and because of that Farfetche'd have become rare because they almost went extinct, but maybe that might not be the case in Galar, but who knows

I've always known, there's no way a whole country could resist eating all those animals, no matter how cute they are.
I'm so sad that the Slow family didn't make it in, as it's probably my favorite line and some of my favorite Pokémon ever. Certainly my Gen I faves.
I think in one of the Pokedex in the previous games, it says it's tail often breaks off without harm and regenerates it afterwards.

that was 2009, a friend of mine who still lives there says almost no one eats it anymore.
So it seems that apparently most of the Pokèmon universe are Pescatarians, from what I reading. It seems that Magikarp are not considered truly sentient and therefor have no rights, much like goldfish in the real world. Magikarp strike from Magikarp jump 2020.

@Porky They were going extinct in Kanto, maybe they’re more numerous in Galar. That or successfully implemented conservation and reintroduction efforts.
In real life reindeer are a protected species in North America but are routinely raised and eaten in Scandinavia and northern Russia. Could be like this for Farfetch’d.
Honestly That food there makes me want to barf or end my life.
