Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is this week hosting a sword-themed spirit board event. It starts on 1st November and will run for the entire weekend.
During this event, you'll encounter more sword-wielding characters than usual and also receive extra gold. Some of the spirits on offer include Eliwood from Fire Emblem, Alucard from the Castlevania series and Mega Man Zero.
The Japanese Super Smash Bros. Twitter account has now revealed details about some of the spirits you can expect to encounter during this event:

Honestly I’ve barely played it since Banjo came out. Since my brother left home it’s no fun playing by myself so I’ve just been playing other things.

I didn't get super into the Spirit Board at launch, but I recently started messing with it because of the Tetris event and I've gotta say that it can be pretty addicting. There are just so many, and they're really satisfying to collect especially in handheld mode while watching YouTube on my TV. Hopefully we get more events with new Spirits instead of just increasing the chance to get spirits with a specific theme.

@nessisonett I've had the same experience. Once my brother and I parted ways after he graduated from college, we barely get to play it anymore.
Been rolling through Adventure mode on New Game + lately. In moderation, its still compelling.
...No Halloween event with a new Gooigi Spirit? Huh...
