Famitsu's Japanese chart figures are now in for 21st - 27th October, revealing that Ring Fit Adventure has dropped down to second place following its recent debut number one.
The game sold another 64,045 copies this week, almost equalling its opening total of 68,497 copies last time around. Those 64,000 sales weren't enough to fend off Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, though, with the popular shooter generating a healthy 117,670 total.
Elsewhere, other chart newcomer Dragon Quest X: The Maiden of Thorns and the God of Destruction Online sold better on Switch than PS4, with the two versions landing in third and fourth places respectively.
Here are the top 10 (first numbers are this week's estimated sales, followed by total sales):
1) [PS4] Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (Sony Interactive Entertainment) {2019.10.25} - 117.670 / NEW
2) [NSW] Ring Fit Adventure (Nintendo) {2019.10.18} - 64.045 / 132.542
3) [NSW] Dragon Quest X: The Maiden of Thorns and the God of Destruction Online (Square Enix) {2019.10.24} - 34.836 / NEW
4) [PS4] Dragon Quest X: The Maiden of Thorns and the God of Destruction Online (Square Enix) {2019.10.24} - 16.898 / NEW
5) [NSW] Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town (Marvelous) {2019.10.17} - 16.495 / 82.688

8) [PS4] The Outer Worlds (Take-Two Interactive Japan) {2019.10.25} - 10.659 / NEW

10) [NSW] Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Nintendo) {2017.04.28} - 7.865 / 2.504.429 (-5%)
On the hardware front, Switch is still comfortably leading the charge. Here are this week's figures, followed by lifetime sales in brackets:
Nintendo Switch: 51,190 (9,325,339)
PlayStation 4: 4,453 (7,154,691)
PlayStation 4 Pro: 2,969 (1,304,332)

No but Mario Kart 8 is still on the charts 2 years later.
That's not something COD can claim.
Has the Switch version of DQXI already sold over 400.000 copies in Japan?
Isn't that low for CoD? I guess 23% more beards / facial hair this year wasn't enough.
@GrailUK Is Call of Duty that big in Japan though? Seem to recall FPS not being a popular genre. Also I believe that Japanese people have on average 23% less facial hair than us in the West.
Those Ring Fit numbers are really impressive in that there was almost no drop off. That mirrors the UK figures where sales actually increased if I remember correctly(?). Perhaps we have a sleeper hit on our hands?
2nd place and you call that bad...give me a break NL. This smacks of bias....this is a family game compared to a game all about killing and learning nothing. This is smashing success from the numbers for something just Released. And they still at NL down play this significance. This is why Nintendo knows their game but NL lost their game here.
Got any Dragon Quest X for us 'Mericans?
Also COD is a American chest thumper game killing and killing cause that makes you manly... Oh please....
You're acting like 2nd place is a bad thing.
It's especially good considering its a new ip into it's second week against a well established ip.
I still hope that one day DQX will come westward
Wish they bring DQX Online to the states on Switch. I would get NSO for just that.
Another "meh" side project for Nintendo next to LABO (no digital, so that is all) as they try and find the next "WiFit" 🙄
PS4 passing the Wii in sales and SONY never went after the casual segment... they just released games, games and more games. That is all you need.
I guess everyone knew to stay away from BloodStained on Switch
Ring Fit Adventure will easily pass a million worldwide!
We could see Ring Fit Adventure sell 100,000+ copies per week in December in Japan if this trajectory holds.
@Agramonte
Ring Fit Adventure is going to sell anywhere from 5 to 10 times more than Labo when all said and done at its current sales trajectory.
It's no Wii Fit (nothing is), but it's no Labo either.
@BigBluePanda I wouldn't be surprised if it already has and if it passed 2 mil after the holidays.
@Agramonte
Ringfit is certainly not meh when it comes to sales (regardless of the quality of the actual game) considering it had a second week in Japan nearly as strong as the first and a better second week in the UK than its first.
It will surpass Labo comfortably I imagine, and most games released this year too.
So Bloodstained had recently got released? Really it took them that long to release it there? No wonder it's so low in the chart.
As of late, I've had a major interest in Ring Fit Adventure. Is it worth buying, and is everyone enjoying it?
@GrailUK Why do you guys make fun of CoD on here while fanboying Pokemon? CoD changes more each year than Pokemon has in a decade.
@Agramonte Sony did went after the casual crowd which is why they got kicked by the Wii with the PS3. PS4 only sell well cause Nintendo failed with the Wii U. Had Nintendo starts with Switch from the get go, the PS4 sales number would had slump big time.
@SBandy Just like LABO, this is the best it will get. And what you see is what you get, seeing how there are zero digital sales. Plus the extra expenses of bundling accessories. This will be half off at Walmart like LABO was.
@Agramonte
It has already surpassed Labo and its second week has had either very little drop off or actually improved.
So quite frankly you are wrong.
@retro_player_22 The WiiU failed because you had better choices to play games on for the money.
And PS4 - or even PC hardware sales (AMD just had their best gaming sector launch in years with the Ryzen3) have not "slump" since the Switch came out in 2017. Made no difference.
@SBandy You comparing it to something that also never lived up to the hype and ended in the bargain bin. Nintendo is looking for the next big thing like WiiFit - this is obviously nowhere near that.
@Agramonte
How do you know Nintendo sees it as the next Wii Fit? It hasn't branded it as the Switch Fit or marketed it in the same way and actually approaced it as more of a game than Wii fit was.
Nintendo will easily make their money back on the game and moreso, if they haven't already, so I really doubt they care if it reaches Wii Fit levels. You forget it was only revealed last month.
I am just pointing out it can definitely be considered a success already with fantastic second week performance no matter how much you want to have a dig at it for some reason.
But hey at least PS4 beat Wii sales so you can get off on that eh?!
@Anri02 Doesn't seem likely, but we can dream! That would be the first mmo I would give a serious try to.
@westman98 No it is no LABO or WiiFit.
People always claim the WiiU was a failure, but you know what it did do?. It spawned Splatoon that carried over to the Switch. And a Nintendo fan base that will keep going for some time.
What did WiiFit do?... sure help sell 100 million Wiis (SONy did it with no need for it). And then it vanished with all those casual players. Because they sure did not follow the rest of us to the WiiU.
Why keep looking for fads for the casual players that die after one GEN. They not loyal... end up back to darts on the wall to get them back.
People giving Ring Fit Adventure a hard time don't know much about the game other than knowing of Labo's and Wii Fit's existence and lumping it in that category of demo/party game stuff. Ring Fit Adventure is a full on action RPG adventure game with a full on campaign, bosses, upgrades, levels and worlds to unlock. Its not as super deep as Final Fantasy but it has enough, the further you go in, to strategize. Performance is also key much like the timed button presses of the Mario RPG games for improved attack. It actually legit gives you a work out unlike Wii Fit and the peripherals function as intended.
I was disappointed in Labo and not into Wii Fit at all but I'm a true believer in Ring Fit Adventure. Its a cool new IP, its an engaging adventure mode and a great work out.
@Agramonte
I wasn't talking about RFA's ability to move hardware, though its success doesn't hurt.
@Agramonte Wow...I'm used to you taking a massive dump on the Japanese charts articles, but this PS4 news has sent you into overdrive!
@DAHstroy yes it's great fun and a good workout I recommend it
I'm surprised COD:MW did well in Japan. I didn't think they liked FPS.
This game is amazing and everything I've wanted in a FPS.
@SwitchForce are you anti-matters alternative account? Stop being a prude. If it was on Switch, Nintendo would be bragging it up too.
@retro_player_22 or you can own both because they offer different experiences. Switch for Nintendo exclusives and the rare third party title, PS4 for everything else including anything online.
@WiltonRoots Well wait to next week (Luigi mansion 3 numbers) and the 15th (Pokemon)
I can almost guarantee no "dumping" from me... could even fall in line and have extra Nintendo Switch gushing for a few weeks! 😃
Ring Fit Adventure has a drop of 6% in sales after first week.
That's a Goddamn fantastic for any game. Let alone such a new and experimental one.
@retro_player_22 No the PS4 sells well cause it has great exclusives and is overall the best system on the market in terms of Hardware; the Wii U and Switch have nothing to do with it. You could make an argument the Switch would actually have sold worse had it come out when the PS4 first came out, because a big reason the Switch is selling so well now is because the PS4 and Xbox One are almost done.
@Agramonte Do you just hate anything that goes against the norm or something? Because your hatred of Ring Fit does not seem rational.
Not sure why there's a surprise about the launch sales of COD MW. COD has been selling over 100k at launch in Japan for years now. Heck last years COD sold over 200k at launch. This year's COD sold slightly more than Infinite Warfare (105k vs 117k).
@Kirby_Girl "People giving Ring Fit Adventure a hard time don't know much about the game other than knowing of Labo's and Wii Fit's existence and lumping it in that category of demo/party game stuff."
That's because they are trying to find fault or dismiss Ring Fit which is a smashing success. Why else would they try to link to Labo or WiiFit. One should take with grain of salt when other try to link RingFit to Labo or WiiFit as desperate means. The mere fact that this thing can do more then they every imagined hurts their imagination here. I betcha those saying those comparisons doesn't own nor will openly do a YT for all to see them make those comparisons because if they did so would blows holes in their narrations.
So the PS4 sells 100m worldwide, but doesn't even hit 10m in Japan?
And the switch close to 40m worldwide, and almost 10m in Japan?
That's a big difference .. 1:12 vs 1:4.
Sony has really lost Japan to Nintendo.
@SwitchForce Don't tell anyone making those claims that Labo's Variety Kit alone broke a million sales and that the original Wii Fit sold over 22 million units without being packaged with the Wii.
Good to see Ring Fit doing well. Another plus for the Switch. Only anecdotal evidence but I’m seeing a lot of noise about it online and among people I know. Could help shift some Switches at Christmas-“well it’s not just Pokemon and Mario, you can use it to keep fit” (buyer then plays Pokemon 500% more than RFA, but it doesn’t matter).
@Skulks really hope that 11s sales have prompted them to think about porting some X
@GrailUK Except CoD MW is actually really good
Its like the best post-Ghosts CoD game by far and has one of the best single player campaigns in series history, up there with the first two Modern Warfares and Black Ops
Ring fit is surprisingly fun. And also a surprisingly difficult workout. I'm playing on difficulty 21 and man, it takes like 20 Squats just to deal 25% damage to a random enemy. My 2 year old was even watching me play and doing the exercises along with me.
@BlueBlur101 @Emob Didn't mean to cause offence. "BEARDS!" is what screamed at me when I watched the trailer at the cinema.
I am pleased to be proved right. The real Switch continues to sell very well and better than the Lite. I said people cared much more about that ability to dock their Switch than people were saying. But no, everyone kept saying "Japanese people don't like to use TVs and they don't even have them!" Yet week after week the Switch is selling better than the Lite.
@Quarth Yes it has, it says that on the list.
I am so glad this is doing well. Those squats are killing me. I know I must be getting older because it feels like my knees need WD40.
@Heavyarms55 At first I thought it could be the combined sales of all the DQXI versions, but that number must be much higher. Over 400.000 in just a couple of weeks is very impressive! It will be interesting to see if this version will be the best selling one in the end.
@Quarth Oh, that's a good point, I'm not 100% sure but I think because DQ11 on Switch is considered a different version of the game, not just a straight port, I don't think the numbers would be combined.
Also these lists NL uses tend to separate games based on their systems. DQX on Switch and PS4 have their own spots.
@Agramonte Yep I purchased Luigi's Mansion 3 the other day, it's sitting there waiting for me when I get home...
@DAHstroy world 5 starts palette swapping levels. World 6 is just a boss rush. All levels are mini bosses or enemies. My interest got crushed. World 7 picks up more with the good stuff.
Doesn't feel like enough content already 25 percent through the game.
I have been starting out with 3 workout routines before I play the adventure just to get 50 calories burned to start with.
