Gothic Horror RPG Sunless Skies: Sovereign Edition Will Haunt Your Switch Next Year

Digerati and developer Failbetter Games have revealed that Sunless Skies: Sovereign Edition is coming to Nintendo Switch in Q1/Q2 2020.

The game is a critically acclaimed gothic horror RPG which was actually successfully funded in just four hours on Kickstarter a couple of years ago. It went on to raise a total of £377,952 and launched on PC in January this year. We've got a description and feature list for you to check out below:

Sunless Skies: Sovereign Edition is a Gothic Horror roleplay game with a focus on exploration and exquisite storytelling. Ready your star-faring engine, and venture into an expanse of hostile factions, lurking deities, forbidden knowledge, vast fortune, and fates worse than death.

It certainly looks and sounds like it could be a winner on Switch; the game currently has a score of 86 on Metacritic and has been named among the best games of the year by a number of outlets.

Incredible game and probably my number one wish for a port. 2020 can't get here soon enough.

Looks really cool. I'll be getting it. Ideally relatively early in the year as the release schedule isn't looking too packed (yet) and I should have a fair bit of free time to get through some games.

I really liked Sunless Seas. The storytelling was amazing, although I would have liked an easy mode as the survival stuff I didn't like as much. I'll 100% be getting this.

Gothic horror RPG? Looks more like a very simplistic card-based RPG with top down shooter elements. And here I thought it was going to be a full 3D horror game...

No matter how good the story, something with card-based characters and top down graphics could never convey enough of a horror feeling to me.

I did like the music and the artwork, though, but all in all, the trailer wasn't really convincing enough to win me over.

Gameplay part of the video doesn't seem to square with calling this an "RPG"... looks like a really slow top down SHMUP...

@jcvandan You'll be happy to hear Sunless Skies is a lot more accessible than Sunless Seas IMO. Nowhere near as punishing, if you liked Seas, you'll love Skies.
