It's not the news we were expecting, but we sure are grateful for it nonetheless. Yes, Home Run Contest is coming back to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
The mode, which was available in all previous Smash Bros. games other than the original release on N64, has players beating up the Sandbag as much as possible before sending it flying to set a highscore. It'll be added to the game as part of Version 5.0, which launches later today.
That's not all, though. In case you missed the news earlier, today's update will also add Banjo and Kazooie as playable characters, and even more characters than we initially expected will be headed to the game as future DLC.
Today's Direct was pretty amazing all-round, but Smash fans have plenty to shout about yet again. Amazing.

@Ralizah @ImagineerNik Yeah, I was disappointed too considering he said it's the last new mode, but it was never likely to happen. Let's just be thankful for what we did get though, right?
Funny that Nintendo says THWACK! in their post, even though the only move called Thwack in the game has very little knockback would launch the bag nowhere.
Also, Im confused because he said last new game mode, but a datamine showed like 3?

This might sound sad but I missed home running that sandbag.
Glad to see it return, and I'm really hoping most of the other Game Modes return from previous games to truly make this the ultimate smash game. Only one I'm not sure about is Events, since that's kinda what the Spirit Battles are. Still hoping for them to add descriptions to the Spirits like Trophies had, but I doubt that'll happen.

It's absence was why I despised Smash Ultimate. I actually might be able to properly enjoy it now, with the addition of HRC. Still want Smash Run, though.

Ok Nintendo, will finish Spiro 1 and then go back to Smash, haven't touched it since November, even when Joker and Hero came out, but with Banjo and This yes way!!

@Matthew010 I noticed that too. I was wondering why he didn't just say it's the last mode. If there is one more, I doubt it'll be Smash Run though.
Better to late then never? Nah, its a fun addition.
