The original Ittle Dew is making its way to Nintendo Switch and we really don't have long to wait until we can play it all over again.
The game, which was actually pitched to Nintendo as a Legend of Zelda game before forming its own identity, sees you crashing onto a strange island and heading out on an adventure full of exploration, puzzles, and optional speedrunning should you be up for the challenge.
The Zelda inspiration is rather clear to see throughout, but we really enjoyed our time with it when we first reviewed the game for Wii U and it makes sense to see it arrive on Switch alongside Ittle Dew 2+. Here's a snippet of what we had to say:
Ittle Dew is a top-class puzzle-adventure title that Zelda fans will absolutely adore. Even if you're not a Hyrule aficionado, there's enough wit and charm (and one of our favourite soundtracks in the entire Wii U library) to make it appealing to players from all walks of life. Unfortunately, the combat mechanic is sub-par, and most egregiously the game is full of technical issues. They are by no means a deal breaker, though, and you should definitely check this one out; Ittle Dew is one of the most clever, well-designed indie titles on the eShop.
The trailer above notes that the game will release on Switch on 18th August, but both the European and North American eShop listings for the game say that it'll launch on the 15th for £8.99 / $9.99. We'd probably bet on the latter ourselves, but don't be alarmed if it does arrive a little late.

Oh cool, nice to see this make it's way over to Switch as well, it was noticeably absent.
I'll pick it up digital to support Ludosity, love what they do, but hope a physical release might happen.
It's actually a pretty short game but it has a lot of replay value thanks to how well the puzzles are constructed.
If I see "Zelda-inspired game" one more time...
@RazumikhinPG Well, for this game it is actually true.
Been playing 2+ the last couple of weeks, it's not bad (got some "trying to be funny" dialogue during it, which to me degrades it a little). Some of the cloud world puzzles are very annoying.
Not sure if I will pick up the original unless a physical appears.
This is wonderful news! I can’t be more excited! I will be picking this game up to support this team, and hopefully someone releases it physically!
@sanderev I didn't say it was a lie. I just said "If I see (...) one more time..." lol
Zelda inspired!? Smashes PS4
@Bunkerneath I just finished the second and thought the funny stuff in it was actually quite funny.
Anyone who played this and the second one, how do they compare? Worth picking this up if I just finished the second and thought it was decent? I’m hesitant because I didn’t love it, just liked it.
I played the first one on mobile a few months ago. It's...okay? I thought a lot of the puzzles were a little too much of the block pushing variety and the combat was just alright. Maybe that is because I was playing on a phone and generally dislike playing games on a phone.
@RazumikhinPG This was actually pitched originally as a zelda game so this is it's most apt usage ever.
@YANDMAN you're missing the point, that's fine.
This game is mostly block puzzles, but they're extremely clever block puzzles. The extra bonus dungeon is particularly fiendish.
The castle is actually designed in a way that allows you to beat the game using just two of the three main items - any two. And there are actually separate time attack records for each possible combination. I find that really cool actually.
@molliolli182 The second game is MUCH more similar to Zelda. It has proper dungeons, items, an overworld and decent combat.
The first game is mostly puzzles. The combat is extremely stiff and very basic. The three main dungeons cannot be re-explored upon finishing them, so there are no secrets to find in them. All of the focus is in the main explorable castle, which is intricately designed to use the three powerups in clever ways, and is where all the hidden stuff is located.
It's also much shorter, and so there is incentive for multiple playthroughs in order to fully experience all of the multiple solutions to the castle's puzzles.
I really like it, but it's quite different to its sequel, which goes for a much more traditional Zelda-style approach.
Loved the sequel, but the loading times were awful.
@cadaver138 You win the Internet today, friend.
i might eventually pick these up, always thought they looked interesting. However for now I gotta finish some games first lol.
@EarthboundBenjy Ok thanks for the info! I might pass the first one then because I thought the second one was a bit on the shorter side and could have had more refined combat. I liked the puzzles but didn’t finish the dream world completely because there was nothing to fight with. Also all the boss battles were kinda generic and easy. The final boss gave me some challenge. But what I love about 2D zelda games is that bosses require you to use all different weapons.
None the less, i liked the game but don’t think I’ll ever return to it.
Great game. So excited to play again. And IMO, Ittle Dew 2 is the best game on Switch and the true next Zelda unlike Breth of the Wild. Any dungeon, any order. The key word is dungeon. And oh boy does the game get tough to 100%
This is a day 1 for me. I loved 2+ on switch. The physical from nicalis was top notch too with a cd instruction manual and a water proof map. Just wish this was getting the same treatment
I loved the second game, looking forward to this one. I have to say though I really hated the last dungeon of the second one. I felt like that temple had a gameplay mechanic that was not explained at all and it made me stop playing for awhile. Other than that it is a stellar game!
One of my biggest disappointments in my life of gaming of all time! Ok, there were worse games, but I knew that these were bad, because everybody else said that they are bad, but this one: most said it's good, but it's boring af, looks horrible, plays horrible and is nothing like Zelda or an excellent Blossom Tales.
@RazumikhinPG of course it is.
I liked the original Ittle Dew better than the sequel. Since I already have it on Steam, I'll probably pick it up when it goes on sale.
@molliolli182 smog from oracle of ages comes to mind.
If I want this game I’ll just pick it up on Wii U
I wonder if this is getting a physical release like the 2nd did?
