While there's been a lot of uproar in recent times regarding Pokémon Sword and Shield on the Switch, on the fighting front it's all love. At the recent Pokémon World Championships last weekend, the Pokkén Tournament DX community took the opportunity to thank one of the game's team members.
As you can see in the video below, a group of competitive players presented producer Masaaki Hoshino with a notebook filled with handwritten messages, thanking him for the experiences and memories the game had given them over the years.
This is a lovely gesture, especially compared to some other competitive fighting stories that have made headlines recently.
Pokkén Tournament started out life in the arcades and received a rather late release on the Wii U in 2016. The following year it was ported across to the Switch with some extra pocket monsters.

Underrated game. It has flaws but it deserves more attention
Haven’t played it a lot but it is a fun game. I would be happy for it to receive a sequel sometime in the future!
That's good and good news.
It would be good that with this, they see that there is a lot of interest in this spin off of Pokemon and give it more opportunity for growth, and why not, a sequel, really many people would appreciate it, with so many Pokemon and those that come, they can already put more options for a longer game (Please, Meloetta, yesss?!, please? !!) and of course, improvements.
I played the arcade version a bit. It was neat but I have never really been into fighting games.
Despite that uproar, I am pretty confident I'll have a lot more fun with Sw/Sh.
I definitely appreciate the game and hope it moves forward as a series. I’d totally buy a sequel and hope for more trainer customization, and more fighters of course. It seemed like something that should’ve intuitively been a thing early on in Pokémon’s life cycle, given the competitive nature of the franchise. Cheers to its/his future. 🍻
Having played the Wii U version, I was always hesitant to buy the new one until I waited for the price to drop. Personally, I'd want a full on Pokken 2 with at least twice as many Pokemon from several gens, more offline modes such as survival and other things, and maybe a decent story that doesn't feel so cookie-cutter. But overall, yeah it's a great game. Just needs more to itself.
I brought pokken on both wiiU & switch. While the 5 new characters & 3 v 3 battles were a nice edition, the switch version could've added a bit more. Great game, I was expecting more DLC after blastoise & aegslash.
I didn't play a lot of it, except at a friends house. It was awesome though. As an artistic type, this kind of thanks is the best a creator could receive.
I've been revving up Pokken Tournament DX recently, might just max level all playable Pokemon so they all have platinum medals on the character select screen.
If there's ever a sequel/another wave of dlc, then I'm hopping for Raichu, Zoroark, Jigglypuff, and of course...
Ducklett wouldn't just trip over Ducklett's webbed feet, but Ducklett would also trip over the competition and win evo!
Well, this is just precious.
One of the better Pokemon spin-offs and could sadly be the last one released for consoles. Anything can happen but haven't seen a single spin-off Pokemon game on consoles after Pokken. At least not one that wasn't also released for mobile (Pokemon Quest).
That's funny cuz I traded this game in to gamestop
