Although the west is still waiting for Yo-Kai Watch 4 to be released locally on the Nintendo Switch, Level-5 has already announced another game from the same series is headed to the system. This time it's a high-definition makeover of the original 3DS game that started it all.
Yo-Kai Watch 1 for Nintendo Switch – confirmed last month, during Level-5's virtual YouTube series – will arrive in Japan on 10th October. To help build excitement, Level-5 has now shared its debut trailer for this upcoming game. Take a look below:
The original entry in the series was first released on the 3DS in 2013 and introduced players to a world filled with Yo-Kai as well as some unique battle mechanics. If you would like to find out more about the first game, be sure to check out our 3DS review.

I really did try to get into these games, but they just didn't grip me. I dunno, gameplay just wasn't there.
Is that the uk release date too?
@Kalmaro
it wasn't bad, I actually got really into the first one, clocking in around 80 hours but the game made it difficult for you to want to use different Yokai due to the how long it took to build up relationships.
All I care about right now from them is Yokai Watch 4 since it's using a combat system similar to Ni No Kuni.
@Mick939 Sorry, it's out in Japan on 10th October. No word on a local release date.
Japan gets all the good stuff.
I want this too.
@AstralSoul13 That was exactly what turned me off. The battle system just never caught on with me.
@abINC4L Really now? THAT sounds more interesting.
@Kalmaro
Look up the gameplay footage, Keita can freely run around the battle field and attack and command his Yokai, which also can act independently. I'm not sure yet if you can directly control them like you could the familiars in Ni No Kuni but even if you can't, that's a massive improvement over the 3DS entries.
I wonder how you’ll be able to get Pandanoko this time
@abINC4L I am now interested.
Interesting, have yet to play a game in the series so color me intrigued.
@Pigeon It all depends on how Yokai Watch 4 does. Also, great pic, Aniki.
Without a 3DS stylus this time, using fingers on the Switch screen to draw all those fast swirls & stuff in combat is going to make for proper filthy touch screens. They need to sell a switch stylus or microfiber cloth with each game. Or, I guess you can tell that i think touch screens covered in finger oil is just gross (even when you clean them regularly).

This game had better not take long to get localized. It’s literally a port of a game that already has a localization, so there’s no reason for this not to come out soon, at the very most early next year to hype us up for the (already confirmed) Yo-Kai Watch 4 localization.
I never played the first Yo-Kai Watch. So if this game gets localized, I would be happy to pick it up.
I recommend this series for anyone who likes monster catching/befriending. The battle system (at least in the 3DS titles) is a little clunky at times, but it works pretty well in boss battles.
That said, I'll be skipping this release when it's localized. I already have it on the 3DS and still need to play the other entries.
Nothing turns me off quite like mandatory touch controls on the Switch.....euugh....
I'll be thrilled if this runs at 60fps. Never beat the game on my 3DS, but if it run smoothly at 60fps on Switch it's very likely I'll finally complete it! Also, it would just look amazing running that smoothly in handheld mode!
@abINC4L @Kalmaro You can actually control the Yo-kai. You are free to change which character you use during the battle.
Battles can get very chaotic!!
I never got into the 3DS games, but Yo-kai Watch 4 is very good (as long as you are fine with lots and lots of dialogue, since you spend more time reading that battling)
@maruse That sounds really nice! Though is it out on switch already? Thought it wasn't yet.
@Kalmaro It's been available in Japan since the end of June, but I bought it last week so I haven't had a chance to play it much yet. I'm just a few hours into the game.
@maruse Ahhh, so we're still waiting on an English release then, fair.
@maruse Well I love both JRPGs and visual novels so I'm fine with dialogue. Can't wait for the NA release!
@abINC4L You can indeed control the Yokai teammates as well and switch between them in real time. I own it ^_^. Amazing game!
Man I am excited for this!
yay.....another game
