I’ve played a couple on the first Mario maker and only have played one Zelda one so far on 2 and I loved it. Definitely gonna look out for more, people are so creative!

What I like most about these, honestly, is that they aren't back breakingly hard. A lot of fan made levels tend to be really difficult and unforgiving. These are clearly designed around a theme and fun experience.

Personally if I have to replay the first half of a level 20 times getting back to the part I am having trouble with, I get really irritated and lost interest. But that's probably just me.

I tried to tame difficulty to a moderate level. Was there something in particular giving you an issue? I also tried to place checkpoints spaced exactly 1/3 into the level and then at 2/3 into the level, both of them strategically placed before the two hardest obstacles, just in case a person messes up they can immediately try again.

@JaxonH sorry for the delayed response. I play 2d metroid games so I get what you were after. But i also struggle with Metroid games because of the lack of direction ( that's largely my fault ) I usually get stuck in Metroid games aside from fusion due to the help they give you. I don't think there's anything wrong with the level because more than likely it's just me. But I'll give it another crack tonight for sure.

Great video! I played all the levels and really enjoyed them. Some took me 6 or 7 minutes to complete, and we're fun the whole way through. Great stuff! I've enjoyed every level Majora has made so far.

When I was designing the level I realized players might run into trouble with the lack of direction given the metroidvania style, so I wrote a comment that appears at the very beginning of the stage that tells the player the way is numbered with coins, 1-6. If you look at the different pipes and ways you can go, you will notice coins trapped inside the terrain and ground. You might see two coins isolated by themselves under a ledge in the ground, or next to a hallway. Or you might see a single coin by itself in the terrain under a pipe. This is telling you the order you should tackle the different ways you can go. And without the right power ups you won’t be able to go any other direction anyways. If you try to run through the thwomps without a hard shell helmet you’ll die. If you try to run through all the pirhana plants without a fire flower to kill them with you’ll die. If you try to go down the bottom path that has four coins but don’t have Yoshi you won’t be able to jump high enough, if you go up and to the left where there are six coins without a cape, you won’t be able to fly across the pit of lava, etc.

I really wanted to leave the level as it was and not give any direction because that’s how the genre is meant to be played, via exploration, but I knew players just don’t have patience for that in a Mario level, so I reluctantly provided instruction knowing that people just wouldn’t complete it otherwise.

@JaxonH - Just beat your level. It was good, but the end (for me) was too hard. I'm not great at flying and it was annoying to have to go collect the power ups multiple times just to practice flying a few more times. Other than that I enjoyed it.

Nice work. I'm glad you enjoyed it, even if having some issues at the end. I did set a checkpoint right before getting the Cape to minimize re-doing everything, so hopefully you weren't replaying the whole stage or anything. I suppose I should have provided 1-up mushrooms also to eliminate the worry of running out of lives if someone has an issue with flying.

Perhaps that'll be my lesson learned here. 1-up mushrooms

This is great, please, please, please can you make this a regular feature, finding and sharing decent (creative, fun, normal - basically not back-breakingly difficult) SMM2 levels?

My biggest criticism of the game so far is the discovery, download and play on the go process which feels like it really doesn't fit with the Switch ethos of play anywhere.

Finding "normal" fun/creative Mario levels is difficult.
Having to take time in an evening to find some for the next day's commute is annoying.
Downloading them, one at a time... excruciating!

Actually, that Goron Ruby at the end of Dodongo's Cavern was meant to be red. However, if you look at the 17:00 mark in the video, you happened to go through the key door right on the frame when the block under you disappeared - at which point all switches turned from red to blue, which wasn't supposed to happen and you still be able to go through. Funny.

It’s a little late to the party, but I recreated the Water Temple from Ocarina of Time complete with changing water levels.
I had to cut down on the 2nd half of the dungeon a bit due to warp pipe and door limits and to make sure it can be completed in 500 seconds. Let me know what you think. Have fun!
