As part of Nintendo's latest financial report, which revealed that Super Mario Maker 2 sold a whopping 2.42 million copies in just three days, the company has released an updated list of its best-selling games for the hybrid console.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still sitting right at the very top of the list - a place it has comfortably held for a good while now. The game has now hoovered up an impressive 17.89 million sales, meaning that it has now doubled the number achieved by Mario Kart 8 on Wii U. Blimey.
You can see the full top ten below (bear in mind that the data only references Nintendo-published titles).
Top Ten Best-Selling Nintendo Switch Games (as of 30th June 2019):
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - 17.89 million
- Super Mario Odyssey - 14.94 million

- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - 13.61 million

Yey! I've got all but 2 of them. Was tempted by Mario Party in the sale but didn't get it and had 12 Switch but sold it
I knew it couldn't last, but it makes me sad to not see Xenoblade Chronicles 2 on the list anymore. Looks like Smash will probably overtake Mario Odyssey. I wonder if Fire Emblem Three Houses will finally knock "1-2 tech demo" off the list?
Also expecting Pokemon Sword and Shield to easily outsell Let's Go. And Animal Crossing New Horizon will likely get on this list too, when it finally releases. Next millennium or so... (that's how it feels anyway.)
Really hoped to see Bayonetta(at least one of them break the million.... this franchise deserves it
That tagline is a lie! the 4th Mario is actually Zelda!
Those numbers are impressive for a console in which so many people didn't believe. I believed in the Switch almost in a religious way and yet I am surprised by its performance.
I can't wait for Nintendo to announce a sequel to Mario Odyssey and to see BotW 2 and Metroid Prime 4 on this list
@Heavyarms55 Pokémon sword and shield will sit in the top 5 easily, Animal crossing will break the 10 million as well, probably really fast
MM2 will probably hit 10 as well, I know it’s sale became much stronger in Japan on its second week compared to the first one and it probably happened in other places as well
1-2 Switch has passed 3 million, noooooo!!
Impressive figures for the top ten titles...
I guess the question is what if anything is gonna knock Mario Kart 8DX off its throne... Mario Kart 9? Switch Sports?
@roboshort Good point, I doubt any game will knock off MK8.
Like others said, I am curious to see how MM2 will climb those charts, it is a great game. It is accessable to novice players but has depth for seasoned gamers. We will see.
@Heavyarms55 It seems like FE Three Houses may pass your beloved 1-2 Switch... I wasn't really expecting that to be the case since it's not a casual title.
@roboshort Waifus and Husbandos print money dude. And these are waifus and hubandos who you can order to fight to the death.
Got all of them but the last two titles (traded in Aces after not enjoying it much). Glad to see big numbers like this. Nearly half of all Switch owners have Mario Kart!
Can see why they killed ARMS
Any idea what Yoshi sold?
1-2 switch being there instead of ARMs or Xenoblade 2 is a shame.
I kinda wish they would expand the list to include all of their games that sold over a million so we could see how the rest of them are placing as well. Very curious to see exactly how Donkey Kong, Yoshi, and Xenoblade are doing.
Hope fire emblem makes it onto that list its amazing
The loyalty towards Nintendo is immence.
I didn’t realize Splatoon 2 was THAT popular. 9 millions is seriously impressive for IP that debuted on the U.
@roboshort Mario Maker or Pokémon Sword/Shield (big advantage to the latter because it’s two separate titles).
All top 10 are first party titles. I wonder if that means the third party stuff can't even approach 1-2 Switch numbers? Or if it's just that the list is looking at Nintendo games specifically?
@westman98
What is Mario Kart 7 DX? Never heard of it.
The Smash Bros games are not Fighting games. They bear very little resemblance to Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat etc.
They are brawlers. Iirc there was even a game called Super Smash Bros Brawl or something.
Basically get your facts right.
@shgamer pfft Smash Bros. is most definitely a fighting game; it's just commonly labeled as being a platform fighter and is probably the forerunner of that fighting subgenre. If it's not a fighting game, why would it be at something like EVO? And Mario Kart 7 DX is just an honest typo. Put a little more thought into countering someone's statement, because it otherwise comes off as a bit sloppy.
I'm guessing that this Top 10 will look very different in a year. Mario Maker will definitely remove Mario Tennis Aces from the list, and I think it'll cause the sales of NSMBU Deluxe to decline as well. 1-2-Switch is also probably going to fall out of the top 10 bestsellers, but I could see NSMBU Deluxe hanging around longer.
4 from 10. Zero interest in the other 6, but what a 4.
MK8, Odyssey, BotW, Splatoon. Awesome.
@PikaPhantom
It just that the original comment provoked me with saying that Smash Bros Ultimate was now the bestselling Fighting game ever.
It's a bit like putting every 3rd person action game into a big pool and then claiming that GTA 6 is the bestselling game of them all (which it of course is, but that's not what I'm trying to pinpoint), as it bears very little resemblance to horror games or Monster Hunter type games for example, but of course still is played from a 3rd person perspective.
Now I know that is probably taking things a bit too far, but in my opinion Smash Bros (or Playstation All Stars fot that matter), still have very little in common with Street Fighter, Tekken, Mortal Kombat etc., while the latter have a lot in common between them.
On a very, very basic level it all comes down to me thinking, that Nintendo fans especially (but certainly also a lot of Sony fans), are way to positive in their outlook on what the industry is giving them.
But then on an even more basic level, I think the computer gaming media itself simply has been exhausted creatively, and will suffer the same fate as media forms of the past like comic books, rock and pop music etc. (yes even books and movies are way past their prime time IMO).
But you don't have to agree with me. It's just my opinion after all
Plumbers! Plumbers everywhere.
Mario Maker 2 and Pokemon Sword/Shield should boot Mario Tennis Aces and 1 2 Switch off of this list pretty soon.
@shgamer There's definitely nothing wrong with having an opinion, and I really do understand why you might not consider Smash to be a genuine full-fatbfighting game. I just tend to play it as such, so that's influenced my perception of it. I also agree that the best/best-selling game of a certain genre should be narrowed down to other genres, as you said.
Arms needed more support. A very nice game but was not marketed properly.
I hope Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the best selling Switch game at the end of the Switch life and not Pokemon
MK reigns supreme again.
I own them all except Splatoon, Party and 1-2. Finished none of them.
It’s a real shame Yoshi, ARMS or Xeno2 can’t knock off that bloody tech demo!
what I really meant to say was it’s a shame PIKMIN4 isn’t on this list
@Frontiersmann Nintendo published titles only. I'd love to see figures across all publishers, but that is unlikely or even impossible.
The top 4 on the list I think will go down as some of the best video games of all time. They are all easy to pick up and play but mastering them is not quite as simple. Nintendo are the best at this formula and I love it.
@shgamer So is Marvel Vs Capcom not a fighting game because they do ridiculous combos all over the place from ground to air and can call in support characters? Or Soul Caliber not a fighting game because you can be knocked off the stage even with full health? Or Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm not a fighting game because they have free (3D) movement? Etc. Smash is definitely a fighting game. Play 1 Vs 1 without items, on an Omega version of a stage (like most pros do) against an opponent at a similar level and tell me it's not very competitive. It's just that Smash is/can be a lot more than your regular fighting game. It can also be a party game.
According to Wikipedia the list continues with:
11 Kirby Star Allies 2.56 million
12 Super Mario Maker 2 2.42 million
13 Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze 2.25 million
14 Arms 2.1 million
15 Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle
16 Xenoblade Chronicles 2 1.73 million
17 Octopath Traveler 1.5 million
18 Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker 1.18 million
19 Pokkén Tournament DX 1.16 million
20 Yoshi's Crafted World 1.11 million
21 Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 01: Variety Kit 1.09 million
22 Enter the Gungeon 1 million
@Alztru
I think I've already stated my opinion and as I don't want to participate in a discussion club on the subject, it ends here for me.
@Frontiersmann Read the text buddy. Only Nintendo titles.
