Inti Creates has revealed more info on its upcoming entry in the Gunvolt series at Bitsummit 2019. Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX was revealed at the Kyoto-based indie game festival last year and it is now confirmed to be launching on 26th September.
The first game in the series since Azure Striker Gunvolt 2 in 2016, Copen is the mysterious protagonist this time around and he's searching for a MacGuffin known as the 'Butterfly Effect'. He has support in the form of his robot companion Lola, a 'reliable partner' with the ability to scan enemy weapons and create 'mock' versions of them for Copen to use. Handy!
The trailer above gives a good idea of the action and characters you'll encounter on your journey, and the pixel art in these shots appears to uphold the series' retro aesthetic:
It'll cost $14.99 when it launches on 26th September, which sounds like ages away, but summer has a habit of flying by, so we look forward to trying this one out soon on Switch.
Are you a fan of the series? Do you like the look of the additions in this entry? Share your thoughts in the usual place.

I need to play the game eventually, I heard it is good.
I really need to go back and finish Azure Striker Gunvolt (and play the second game) one of these days. Started it on both 3DS and Switch and made it to around the same point in both before getting distracted by other things. Enjoyed what I've played though.
Finally some news about this game. The other 2 were awesome, and this one looks promising too. I'll wait and see if I can get it somehow one day.
Waiting for physical it is.
Liked the original but felt like story progressed too slow when kept wanting to get at more meat, and then got stuck on the sudden boss rush, while leveling up further got quite hard.
I loved playing as Copen so I'll probably keep an eye on this.
Looks like Copen was right?
Azure Striker Gunvolt is my favorite 2D game series ever, and I don't even like pixelated games. The game graphics are barely passible, but they always have very nice animations from cutscenes, and skill cut ins that it makes it more pleasing to look at.
The real catcher is the story, chars, and gameplay. I love the lore of this series. Even if some of you hate the visuals of gameplay, give these games a chance. They are awesome! I'm stoked for this.

I completely disliked the story for first two game, it felt rushed : for example, the intro/exposition in the first is ridiculous : "Hello, we're in a world were people have power and this organization is the bad guy, now go play." The whole thing was cliche and predictable, you could predict the few plot twist miles ahead and there was barely any charisma/interest in the majority of the character (except a few one) beside their design (Inti still rock with their art, animation and music). It's probably because I'm someone who discovered Inti's work with Megaman Zero so I have some high standard with them...
Beside that, the rest is very good art, animation, music, mechanics, various design, etc)....Except their UI, who's trash visually if you're not playing on DS (on other plateform it just an ultra pixellated upscale).

The new game seem cool ! More story (altough they made again the over the top exposition "you have power and the bad guy is killin everyone else but no one seem to bat an eye", ever heard of subtlety ?), smooth gameplay, etc.
It's funny because I recently felt the urge to go back and play ASG again, and I've had the Striker Pack for months and never touched the second game. I'm glad the series is continuing, it's a great Mega Man style homage with its own identity. Looking forward to the new game.
I'll be buying this for my daughter, and I do like Gunvolt, but I'll personally pass on playing it. I can't stand Copen, or his gameplay style and never bothered with him much in ASGV2.
This is definitely a day 1 buy. So glad to see more of my 3ds favourites continue on Switch.
Right on I do like the gunvolt series... I think I liked Copen... I can't remember because it's been a minute. Either way I will be picking this up.
GRID and Borderlands 3 already on my list for Sept. So $120 in the hole for the month 🙄
Maybe later on at some point.
I love the GBA aesthetic, and loved most of the GBA Megaman games, so this franchise really tugs at my nostalgia strings.
The series is a great spiritual sequel to the Megaman Zero games and I loved the first 2 games. It's a shame that GV is not in this game, but Copen was a blast to play as. Looking forward to the new exploits of Copen and his faithful AI partner Lola.
I have played the first one and only a few levels of the second one (so far). I am surprised that Gunvolt is not around. Maybe that's why its called "chronicles". It may also have to do with the story of Gunvolt 2, but please don't spoil it.
Personally I like the games, but think the level-designs are a bit weak (the same areas repeating over and over again). Besides, the second one is very talky, and so seems to be this one. Anyway, might still get it someday.
Love this series and Inti-Creates. Ah so Copen gets his own complete game this time... good stuff, I'm in. So... Mighty No. "iX"? (sorry, sorry, couldn't help it )
