Square Enix has revealed Dragon Quest Walk, a brand new entry in the series developed for smartphones. Just like Pokémon GO, this game uses your location to bring elements from the Dragon Quest universe to your local area.

The game is being developed by Japanese mobile studio Colopl - the company which Nintendo took to court last year over multiple in-game patents - and is expected to launch in Japan later this year. It has you walking around the real world, talking to townspeople, battling against monsters, preparing equipment, and more. There's also a story mode which develops as you walk and play.

The game was revealed in a Square Enix press conference today (and is the title initially teased just over a week ago). During the very same conference, Dragon Quest series executive producer, Yu Miyake, also spoke of an upcoming Dragon Quest XII.

He said, "By the way, about Dragon Quest XII, which I’m sure is on everyone’s mind—[Yuji] Horii and I are currently making preparations on series developments that will connect to XII. I think it’s still too early, but we would like to announce it in some form, so please wait a little while longer" (thanks, Gematsu).

If you haven't already, make sure to watch the trailer above to see what Dragon Quest Walk is all about.
