Eevee is one of the most popular evolution candidates in Pokémon GO, and for good reason. This adorable monster can evolve into a whopping eight different forms – heck, it even has its own Tamagotchi!
This cute little beast may have some serious hidden talents, but at the time of writing seven of its famous 'Eeveelutions' are currently available in the game: Umbreon, Espeon, Vaporeon, Jolteon, Flareon, Leafeon and Glaceon.
In the "classic" Pokémon outings, this particular monster is able to evolve into different types depending on what special items you have, its happiness level, the moves it has unlocked and the time of day. Thankfully you don't have to jump through those kind of hoops in Pokémon GO.
Instead, you can simply rename your Eevee to one of five different names to guarantee a particular evolution. There are a few caveats, but the system definitely works if you get it right.
Eevee Names To Evolve Eevee Into Leafeon, Glaceon, Umbreon, Espeon, Vaporeon, Jolteon, And Flareon
Evolving Eevee using the required 25 Eevee candy will turn it into one of the five types at random. However, it has been discovered that you can control which type it turns into by renaming the monster beforehand:
- "Sakura" to evolve into Psychic-type Espeon
- "Tamao" to evolve into Dark-type Umbreon
- "Rainer" to evolve into Water-type Vaporeon
- "Sparky" to evolve into Electric-type Jolteon
- "Pyro" to evolve into Fire-type Flareon
- "Linnea" to evolve into Grass-type Leafeon
- "Rea" to evolve into Ice-type Glaceon
Dedicated fans of Pokémon will know that these names have special significance. In episode 40 of the original series, these "Eevee brothers" meet with Ash and the gang.
There are some caveats here. Some players have reported that this only works the first time you evolve an Eevee, and others have claimed that it hasn't worked for them personally - possibly due to server issues.
How To Evolve Two Umbreons And Espeons
Users on Reddit have discovered a possible second method of evolving Eevee into Umbreon and Espeon. It's surprisingly simple as well – all you have to do is walk Eevee 10km and then evolve it at night to unlock Umbreon, and during the day for Espeon.
The best part about this particular trick, is that you can evolve Eevee into Umbreon and Espeon using this method even if you already have an Umbreon or Espeon from using the naming trick.
What's not clear though, is whether or not you can use this trick multiple times.
How To Evolve Eevee Into Sylveon
Eevee's other possible evolution - Sylveon - isn't featured in the game as yet. We'll let you know the Eevee evolution name for this Pokémon as soon as it becomes available in the game.
How To Evolve Eevee Into Leafeon And Glaceon With A Lure Module
The first way to evolve Eevee into Leafeon and Glaceon, and perhaps the most obvious way if you've had a look in the game's shop recently, is by using a Lure Module.
Currently only available from the in-game store for 200 coins a piece, these Modules work just like the ordinary Lure Modules in the game. Simply buy whichever one takes your fancy (or both, if you prefer) and use it on a nearby PokéStop.
You'll notice that it attracts specific types of Pokémon to your area, but go ahead and click on one of your Eevees in your collection. If you're within range of the PokéStop, you should see that its evolution button has changed to indicate that you're ready to go. Hit the button and you should see Eevee evolve into your chosen evolution right before your eyes (as long as you have 25 Eevee candy ready to go, of course).

- Glacial Lure Module - Used to evolve Eevee into Glaceon (200 Coins)
Some players have reported instances of the Module failing to give them the new Eevee evolution. Make sure that the evolution button is indicating a new evolution before you press it, rather than displaying the usual Eevee question mark symbol.
It's also worth noting that these Lure Modules behave just like the ordinary variants within the game. This means that if another player has used a special Eevee Lure Module on a nearby PokéStop, you can swoop in and use it to evolve your own Eevee. (Note that other players will also be able to benefit from your Module, too).
Niantic has revealed that the Modules will become available through special research tasks at a later date, so you could decide to wait if you'd rather not spend your 200 coins.
