In just two days' time, both Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be receiving VR support thanks to Nintendo Labo VR. If you're wanting the full experience, this Zelda headset design could make you feel even more immersed in the action.
Taking on the style of Breath of the Wild's art, and looking like a lost Sheikah relic just waiting to be discovered, this headset design has been shared by Just Intense Gaming. As well as the aesthetic makeover, a head strap has also been added, allowing you to have both hands free while playing with the headset.
As responsible adults, we feel the need to tell you that Nintendo didn't include a head strap for a reason (Labo VR isn't supposed to be used in long play sessions) but as the big kids that we really are, we think that's a pretty cool touch.
You can see it a little better in the video below, where Just Intense Gaming also explains some of the processes and items needed for its creation should you want to do this yourself.
If you need to catch up on all this Zelda VR malarkey, head here to learn more from the game's technical director.
What do you think? Will you be transforming your headset in a similar way? Looking forward to playing Mario and Zelda in VR? Let us know in the comments.

I want to try BotW with goggles on, before I try adding headstrap myself. However, I find it quite likely I am going to replay the game in VR, unless it turns out to be very unplayable. This is the main reason i got this headset in the first place
@YessMasster This is what I had in mind when I bought Labo VR, but after trying it for 10 minutes, I'm pretty sure I won't be able to play BotW in VR. My stomach won't take it.
I have bought the vr kit just for BOTW so I’m hoping it’s gonna be good think I will restart the whole game if it’s good enough
I've still not picked up Labo VR so when I do get it, a headstrap is straight on. Just asking, if you get a headstrap, can you code games where you have a controller in your hands and the headset just on your face? If so, that would help so much!
Will never play Zelda in VR as it's not VR, its just 3D shifting
@LetsGoSwitch Yes, some of the minigames use a separate joy-con, and if your using Garage to create your own stuff you can use whatever inputs you wish.
Looks great. I’m ready. Can’t wait for the zelda Mario update
@Bunkerneath These are barely semantics and depend on point of view. There are non-first person games on ps vr, and also, if you consider that the first person character does not need to be the same character as the one being controlled by gamepad, than you do fit in the definition - the camera movement reflects the movement of your head, thus camera is your VR-avatar, which follows Link, and Link is not your POV character.
@KingdomHeartsFan You can be looking not through main character's eyes and still be immersed in the virtual world. Both are possible at the same time.
You guys realize you're NOT supposed to customize the VR headset, don't you? Someone clearly didn't read the 'Discover' section... -_-'
@KingdomHeartsFan I think their idea is so you play the game normally but use the goggles every so often to take in the world.
@KingdomHeartsFan I'd say that this depends on the level your brain perceives something as "real", and thus being isolated from outside stimuli and following head motion seem necessary. Additionally you can employ stereoscopic vision. Using VR headsets generally fulfills those conditions, even if your avatar is the camera and not games MC. Staring at the screen, however, makes you more aware that you are just playing a game, and thus TVs or screens do not make you nauseous, opposite to VR goggles - the effect comes from your brain seeing movement, while not perceiving it through inner ear. That is also a sign that the VR technology tricks your brain more than conventional gaming, where seeing the screen lets your brain know that you are actually not moving.
@KingdomHeartsFan You can feel immersion without VR, but the level of immersion using VR lifts the ceiling. Even an average VR game will always be more immersive than the most immersive non-VR game.
Play it at the table, you can rest your elbow on the table, there's no need for a strap.
LABO VR really is Virtual Boy 2.0
@KingdomHeartsFan Almost. There are different kinds of VR (it is actually a very old concept) but what we usually call VR is a virtual reality headset, which provides 1) 3D 2) a field of view that covers your whole vision 3) the possibility to look around by moving your head. Actually the 3D is not even mandatory since 360° videos are usually 2D but they kinda suck.
How exactly are people planning to play zelda in VR if you need 2 hands to play the game and there's no strap on the goggles? My interpretation was this was just going to be like a gallery mode (find some place in the map that looks pretty, switch to vr mode to have a look around and then switch back to continue playing).
@KingdomHeartsFan Well, in the 'Discover' section of the VR Nintendo Labo kit, it is explained that crab sticks are also some kind of VR as well, so... XD
@blockfight You can actually put the Joy-cons back on the Switch while it is inside the headset, so you can play that way - a few games of the Nintendo Labo kit require this setup.
My kid saved a new game on top of our old save file, I have to start all over again! I guess I'll get the VR goggles for that.
Lovely continuation of the DIY spirit of LABO.
If you want the thing strapped to your face, well then go ahead and do it!
I've thought about wrapping an ace bandage around the goggles and back of my head. I'll look like a freak but BotW is worth it.
For some odd reason, I’m confident saying that breath of the wild VR will not be good
@Edu23XWiiU I made a second profile just for Breath of ths Wild and restart occasionally because i absolutely love the early game.
The first thing I'll do in BotW VR is glide from the Twin Peaks in a sunny day, as far as I can. I can't wait to try it.
@RootsGenoa didn't realise this. Thanks for that. Now i am interested.
@ballistic90 My son was doing that with his own profile, I had no idea he did the same with mine. Such a loss, but I'm not mad, it's the perfect excuse to play it again!
