UK chart data is now in for the week ending 2nd March, revealing that three new games have made it into the top ten this week.
Out of these, The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame charted highest, master-building its way to number four in its opening week. Dirt 2.0 managed to grab sixth spot, and Trials Rising somersaulted its way over the finish line in tenth. The sales split for Trials Rising reveals that the Switch version was the lowest performing of the bunch, taking home 28% of sales as opposed to PS4's 39% and Xbox One's 33%.
Elsewhere, it's a pretty familiar lineup. Interestingly, though, despite most games across the entire top 40 dropping in sales slightly this week, Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee! saw an increase, perhaps owing to all of the Pokémon Day celebrations and various marketing efforts last week.
Here's a look at this week's top ten all formats chart (physical sales only):
1. (1) Anthem
2. (3) FIFA 19
3. (2) Far Cry: New Dawn
4. (New) The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame
5. (4) Red Dead Redemption 2
6. (New) Dirt 2.0
7. (5) Metro Exodus
8. (8) Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
9. (10) Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
10. (New) Trials Rising: Gold Edition

Trials sold pretty damn well as, relatively speaking, the percentages are pretty close across the board. If anything, the Switch version's sales are particularly impressive as it is catering to the smallest audience, and the considerably cheaper (when on sale) Urban Trials Playground (released about a year ago) may have dampened enthusiasm somewhat.
I'm still on the fence at this point, but UTP really disappointed me with its lack of customisation features and I found the Trials Rising Open Beta to be quite impressive in that department. However, I don't make a habit of buying multiples of the same style of game on a single console, and I'm flooded with games to play as it is.
I wonder what Trials sales split is including digital. I’m planning on getting it digital. It’s the kind of game I want on my Switch all the timefor short plays.
Trials had some pretty bad press on switch before it was released but it’s all pretty unjust it plays really well bet all the bad press has had a negative effect on sales but looking at the percentage it’s not that bad when you consider the install base of the PS4 and Xbox one
28% of the sales doesn't sound too bad to be fair especially when you consider the install base of the PS4 in comparison to the Switch. From the headline I was expecting about 3%
What happened to those digital charts they mentioned two months ago?
Nintendo Life being unreasonably negative here methinks as that is a pretty good split all things considered for Trials.
I'm sure Ubisoft will be pretty happy with 28%. Perhaps it would've sold even better if it hadn't received the undeserved bad press on here before its release.
It's good to see the sales of a big 3rd party release in line with the other consoles. Hopefully it's the same story for Mortal Kombat 11.
The reason: Digital Foundry giving them the thumbs down. Same with Daemon X Machina, terrible performance.
That comes with releasing a much lower version, doesn't it ?
Reading the comments it seems like EVERY reviewer was out against this game. Yeah, right. Everyone of them is under a false impression.
I picked up Trials Rising and actually think it’s pretty good. Seems very easy to jump on a bandwagon these days. But it’s the same price as the other consoles which can only be a good thing, it’s portable and personally I think it plays quite well, not sure why people are moaning at the graphics of it as I don’t notice them as I’m busy concentrating on each race 🤷🏼♂️ I’m just happy that company’s are supporting the Switch.
@Tibob have you actually tried it I have had no problems with the game the only difference is on the PS4 you see more background detail but I’ve had no slowdown and I have played over 15 hours
I never play the switch docked unless we are sorting out a family disagreement with a round of Arms or Mk so the Switch versions of every multi-plat always have best portable graphics. I'll defiantly be picking up Trials on the switch at some point. Its a great pass around and have a laugh title.
I am loving Trials. It is pumping my heart way up. I am slowly learning how to finesse the controls. I can see the visual difference, but it doesn't bother me, I am too focused on the techniques. This game is great to me.
@Gs69
I don't have enough time to play all the brillant games there is, let alone try out mediocre ones for the sake of it.
Trials did pretty darn well on Switch given how much larger the PS4/XBO install base in comparison and the fact that the this is the first entry in the series on Nintendo hardware.
Anthem continues to struggle.
LEGO Movie 2 not releasing day and date on Switch is laughable.
@Tibob
So you haven't tried the game and therefore your opinion is worthless.
@Tibob it really isn’t mediocre at all but hey you know best cos you have not tried it your loss
@SBandy
Yes, indeed.
My impression that fanboys will defend a game even when most reviews agree on its mediocrity is very much worthless.
I'm pretty sure grabbing the joypad makes all the technical issues on can clearly see on video disappear !
@Tibob
I don't even have the game but I tried the Beta and found it very enjoyable. And yes your opinion is worthless.
Edit: On the topic of whether Trials is a good game, not on everything obviously.
Anthem is struggling? No1 for two weeks in a row. Wonder how Devil May Cry 5 will do on Friday? Not too good I expect.
@SBandy Thanks, it was very pleasant exchanging you.
I played the beta on both PS4 and Switch before buying the PS4 version as the Switch port is a disaster in comparison. The draw distance and fog are egregious and you can't vary the throttle with the Switch's triggers.
I really, really wanted a portable Trials, but this isn't it.
That's what happens when ubisoft deliver a poor port!
@Tibob A good number of reviews had a pretty positive approach and recommended that people buy the game on Switch. The beta caused all the rant, not the actual release
I can't imagine playing Trials without analogue triggers. I'm not likely to get the Switch version.
Bought it for PS4 and don’t regret it.
Trials is fantastic, having a blast with it.
The only reason Anthem is in first is cause Devil May Cry 5 isn't out yet.
Trials is the real deal. The knock off suck in comparison. I love the psysics and variation. I’m totally addicted. The graphics are ok, but they are not the point of the game.
The graphics in the demo were shockingly retrograde. We know the Switch ain’t a visuals powerhouse but we also know it’s capable of more than Ubisoft bothered to wrangle out of it. Guess not enough ppl were into the Fog City Bikers franchise :/
If they make the worst port for the Switch, they sell the least. It sounds fair to me.
Ubisoft has been very lazy with this port. They deserve it.
28% in UK, which is Nintendo's worst market.
It's been outselling the PS4 version on Amazon US by 50%, and outselling the X1 version by 100%. Not once has the other versions even come within 200 ranked places of the Switch version. I'm willing to bet globally, Switch version sold most.
For the record, the game is mindblowingly awesome. I'm already level 60, all bikes unlocked.
@PlayerOne
Analog stick for analog throttle works fantastic. See my response below for details.
@SirCatflap
The "fog" is actually desert dust as they converted that level into a desert sandstorm level. And its only that one level. The other 124 levels are just fine and have no such effect.
And while the triggers aren't analog, the right analog stick is. I've already beaten extreme tracks like Hong Kong in the beta with medals, scored platinums and A+ on all the Univesity of Trials challenges including flapping and bunny hopping using the right analog. It works terrific.
Portable Trials is glorious. And, Switch version is the only one not plagued by horrendous load times (over a minute to load stages on PS4/X1 vs 15 seconds on Switch).
I bought it on Switch. Fun little game! Worth the 35cad
@JaxonH lolz "desert dust", also known as "sand"
They didn't add it in because they wanted a sandstorm version exclusively on Switch, they added it to reduce draw distance so the console could cope. It is the only foggy level though so it's not a train smash.
However, the severely reduced model quality, missing shadows, fewer level objects and halved framerate doesn't equate to "just fine" in my book. No wonder the load times are so quick, there's only half the stuff to load. It's by no means unplayable, but the differences between platforms are stark.
I'm not praising the PS4 over the Switch here as I play on both consoles equally, and I gave them both a shot before choosing my platform, but potential buyers should know that the Switch version of this game made a lot of concessions to run on the platform. If you have a Switch then play it, but if you have a PS4/Xbox too then that's the better choice.
@SirCatflap
Yes, sand 😀
And I understand why they did it, but the point is it's not just mindless "fog" where it doesnt fit. They masked it well by making it fit in with the theme of the level. And to that extent they did a great job. If not for comparisons, I would have never thought twice about it. Just seems to be designed that way.
No doubt there were concessions made. My whole argument is simply that, they're not as extreme when taken in totality as some portray. Framerate is rock solid docked, only very brief, rare dips in handheld. Models are reduced but looks great in motion, especially in handheld which looks sharp. And the sandstorm effect is only 1 level in the game, so a single exception rather than a rule. Analog works better than expected and hasn't hindered my performance even in extreme cases. And it has fast loading unlike other versions, which btw, seem to have framerate issues people are reporting to Ubisoft on the tech support forums.
All in all, I considered buying on X1X also, but lack of progress carrying over discourages me given the grind. And the long load times. I'd rather deal with all the cons of the Switch version than those 1 minute load times per level. That said the Switch version has its share of issues too. Couple crashes, and all versions have a bug where stadium opponents are top of leaderboard guys who are impossible to beat.
Great to see METRO still up there - Fantastic Story Driven game.
Anthem needs tons of work, hopefully this means there is a base worth them doing it.
At least Ubisoft exchanged the "wrong" eshop photos for trials (xbox one / ps4 / pc screens), and replaced them with the ugly, shadowless switch ones xD
trials may be a good game, but the team behind this port, did a bad job ...switch could handle better graphics, so no buy for me. not that i need graphics (my fav. game on switch is still an old mega drive game ), normally i don't care about graphics, but only, if the port is well made. and it seems, ubisoft didn't do a great job, porting trials over to switch ...
@PlayerOne GameCube Controller.
I've played the Trials Stresstest Demo, so i know about the graphics The fact is, Switch could do more. It's just a "fast" port, like most of Ubisofts games (sadly).
i am not supporting this. no matter if it is ubisoft/ea/sega, whatsoever. is the port bad or rushed, no money that's why i don't preorder games like mortal combat or saints row ...first i wanna see REAL ingame graphics, before i decide if a "new" games looks worse than some others on switch, i won't buy it. what the switch can do, you can see with games like warframe. absolutely stunning graphics, like on xbox one. sure less fps and unsharper textures, but overall - a great port. trials does not look good in my opinnion.
and even ubisoft has tried to fool people, while putting some xbox screenshots on the eshop, instead of real switch ones ...
Anthem? Lol, those UKers will buy any old crap.
In the individual formats chart Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is third behind the PS4 and Xbox One Anthem games.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a beast!
Still clinging onto the narrative that the Switch version is a failure on several levels just to gain easy clicks, are we, NL?
Uhm... how is that even worth an article??? I mean looking just at the worldwide user-base, there are about 30 million Switches, 40 million X-Boxes and 90 million PS4s... I'd guess that even a first grader who knows nothing about concepts like 'normal distribution', wouldn't expect the Switch version to outsell the PS4 one.
Moreover, those statistics probably don't include the downloaded games - and methinks that Trials Rising is one particular game that one doesn't need a physical copy. The game is perfect to play on the go, and it doesn't take away that much space on your memory card either. Accordingly I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of Switch owners just went for the digital option.
@Tibob Worthless??? No matter how games are review as bad/mediocre, their will always be people who really likes it and enjoy it. Reviews really should not impact the buyer, as they should really just listen to the review with a grain of salt. Watching a gameplay video is probably better than listening to the reviews. (some are not even reviews - looking at you so called "critics" on metacritic. Not saying all of the critics are bad, but you could easily tell their are "critics" there that are really not critics at all.)
