Following a teaser in February, FDG Entertainment has now confirmed Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom will be receiving a Switch demo later this month.
It’s not just any old demo, though. This one will allow anyone who downloads it to play through the first chapter for free and transfer their save file to the full release.
FDG Entertainment has previously gone on record saying how the number of copies sold on Switch was eight times the amount of combined sales on other platforms. We can only imagine this demo will widen the lead.
We gave Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom nine out of ten stars and said it was a gorgeous looking game that did its spiritual predecessors proud.
Will you be downloading this demo when it arrives on the Switch eShop later this month? Have you already bought and played the full game? Tell us below.

I just picked this up, it's a great game to get on a physical card.
The game looks really good. I’ve been waiting to try it out so I’ll definitely look forward to this demo.
I don't need a demo to tell me that this game is awesome. I'm just waiting for a sale since I'm currently unemployed and need to be more careful with my spending.
Just bought it, lol this always happens to me
The game is excellent, but there should be a demo sooner and a bit lower price. I don't regret at all buying it, but it's price may be intimidating for a lot of people.
Yes. Yes I will be trying this.
For those who have played it already, is it a similar experience to the Dragon’s Trap (remake / remaster overlay?). That was one of my favourite games from the Sega Master System, and I thought the remake was great.
I got the physical version for Christmas. I love that it came with a full color instruction manual. The message from the developers in the manual really conveyed the passion for this project. It really is an excellent game and a perfect fit for the Switch.
I will be playing this demo
This series is pure passion, I love it.
I will try it but what I really need is a sale drop... I cannot even find a retail copy nowadays...
This will help avaliate better this game, but I yet don't believe the price will be worthy.
I hope a lot of people try out the demo. I never played the series on the Master System, but the remaster of The Dragon's Trap and especially this game have been excellent experiences. I admit that the game does start off a bit slow, but once you have a few of the animal transformations at your disposal, it gets really good.
Also has a great soundtrack, featuring old tunes remixed and some new ones as well.
I want it since launch. I'm waiting for my backlog to grow thinner and this baby to get a price drop.
I just 100% the physical version of this game a few days ago. I strongly recommend it.
This is a great metroidvania. This is an amazing game.
This game doesn't really start firing on all cylindiers until the "third chapter", but a demo could get you a glimpse if it's for you or not.
Highly recommended.
@JayJ The cartridge is nice, but that booklet is mighty fine.
I've been wanting the gamecard of this since launch. I'm glad they're releasing a demo of it. In the videos and reviews I've watched it looks like a champ. Looks like a blast to play, with that refined, decades classic gameplay. Playing the demo will probably egg me on to finally getting the physical release...
Can't wait to try it.
I'll try the demo, and see how it feels. Didn't really like dragons trap, to why that is I have no clue. Art was beautiful but somehow the game didn't resonate enough with me.
@FrowningCoach I was in a similar boat to you, I played up to the last stages but it just wasn't wowing me and I stopped playing it. I liked the art style but the gameplay didn't age well. And this is from someone who loved the Wonderboy games. I'll still give this demo a spin and see how I get on.
100% giving this a go, I've been tempted to buy it anyway so this may convince me
When John Linneman (DF Retro) and the guys from My Life in Gaming said this was their game of 2018, I didn’t need a demo, I bought it straight away!
Bought aleady the collectors didn't need demo for such.
@WiltonRoots Phew, here I was thinking I should be feeling bad. Spot on, the art great
Up for the demo ! But will probably wait for a sale as I also think it’s too expensive
Way too late for a demo. Anyway, great game but good thing I bought it physical from Video Games Plus. No matter how good a game may be, that price for a digital version... No way.
I’ll be playing the demo. But why not for PS4 and Xbox as well? Just a question out of curiosity: Did it bomb on Sony’s and Microsoft’s platforms?
Great! I really wanted a demo for this one.
Hell yeah I'll be downloading this
I'll give it a go. Can't beat a demo.
