612 Games and Golem Entertainment have today announced that Skulls of the Shogun: Bone-A-Fide Edition, previously released on other platforms, is now heading to Nintendo Switch this spring.
Described as a "samurai-inspired turn-based strategy game", this game has players entering the Samurai Afterlife and joining forces with Ghost-Samurai warriors, magical animal monks, and moustachioed Samurai Generals, all in hopes of capturing the Skulls of the Shogun.
The game is set in Feudal Japan, with players taking on the role of the recently deceased General Akamoto, Japan’s mightiest Samurai General, and controlling his army of soldiers. Five orders can be carried out with each turn, and there are said to be plenty of tactical approaches to choose from, like killing units, bolstering minions by eating skulls, and haunting rice fields and buildings.
Here's a list of game features for you to check out:
- A fast-paced, arcade-inspired blend of arcade action and turn-based strategy!
- Rub shoulders with the colorful denizens of the Afterlife and power up your army to deadly demons!
- Rampage through 24 levels in an epic single-player campaign!
- Confound opponents with the all-new Tanuki Monk unit!
- Gain experience and fuse emblems with an all-new player progression system!
- Battle up to 4 players at once on spectacular multiplayer maps, both locally and online!
- Power your way through an all-new episode, which features persistent troops and the mischievous new Tanuki Monk!
- Get inside our heads with all-new Developer Commentary!
No release date has been revealed just yet, but we'd hope that the mention of "spring" means it shouldn't be too long until we can try it out.

Now that's a game I haven't seen in years. Never did beat it.
I didn't beat it either, but remember liking it a lot. I'd assume it'll run at 60 fps, since it always has on other devices I've played it on. The multiplayer sounds like fun. Could be an awesome Switch release if they've converted it to Switch nicely!
@60frames-please Seems like you have an serious bad addiction with 60 frames per second, here I will give you this medicine to cure your addiction!
Gives Questionable Medicine
@IceEarthGuard Too choppy! Need smoother medicine : )
Nice I'm gonna try it and see how good it is.
No thanks. I got this on mobile a long time ago and it sucked. Not only that, they completely stopped supporting it and removed it from the app store. No way am I giving them money again. Yuck dude, no.
Played this on PS4 and was rather disappointed as it sounded like a good time but was just really boring.
Good game. Must admit, I save-scummed my way through it (I’m no strategy king), but it has a fun setting and script allied to solid tactical gameplay. If you liked Wargroove, this is an easy recommendation.
@Lionsshare - I know exactly what you mean. But I blame Apple (I assume you had the iOS version like I did), who keep disabling apps with their updates, rather than the developers.
@Krull Yes, it was iOS. Still, plenty of other game companies updated their games. This game wasn't cheap and they just dropped it like a hot rock. Super uncool. Apple does suck though.
@Kalmaro yeah I never got round to finishing it either for some reason but did love it! Might double dip on switch if it’s priced fairly without switch tax!
Nice one! I always figured this game was perfect for the Switch (colourful easy-to-learn local multiplayer) but figured it would never happen due to Microsoft...
@Lionsshare I sorta hear where you're coming from but I am aware that Microsoft really screwed the developers over in a variety of ways shortly after initial release. Don't take it out on the Devs.
@Mylestrom As much as that sucks, I still wouldn't double dip on it.
@datamonkey The game was fun! I had it on mobile though and lost the data due to shenanigans.
