You can never have too many Joy-Con

The vibrant colours available and the ability to mix and match different designs make the Switch's Joy-Con an attractive - and highly noticeable - part of the console. Not only can you show off your own personal flair (we're rocking one neon blue and one neon pink right now), but you can also change this to reflect your current mood - as long as you're happy to keep spending more and more money of the things, of course.

Having said all this, we're amazed that Nintendo hasn't launched more franchise-specific designs yet. Sure, we've had the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate ones (which are essentially just the grey ones with an added 'whoosh'), and Pokémon Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee! got their yellow and brown ones, but where are our golden Zelda Triforce Joy-Con? Or our Mario Super Mushroom and Fire Flower set? The list goes on.

Well, providing us with a look at how a slightly different set of Joy-Con releases could look, designer Matthew Thompson has shared mock-ups based on each of Nintendo's past home consoles on his website, Matt Makes (not to be confused with Celeste's Matt Thorson and his company, Matt Makes Games). We've included the GameCube and N64 designs below.

Matthew explains that he restrained from using any additional graphics, only mixing up the colours of the parts already included, which leaves each design looking a little more realistic than other, more fanciful mock-ups we've seen in the past. If you want to check out the Wii U, Wii, SNES and NES designs, you can find them here.

Would you pick up a set of Joy-Con based on an old Nintendo system? Would you like to see more official sets be released this year? Let us know your ideal designs in the comments below.
