2K has released another free DLC update for NBA 2K Playgrounds 2, bringing a nice selection of new content for players to enjoy completely free of charge. Lovely stuff.
The new DLC adds the 2019 NBA All-Star playground in Charlotte and a special Valentine’s Day playground, all ready for the big, romantic day next week. A host of new cosmetic outfit items themed around both of these playgrounds have also been added, and you'll find dozens of new players to unlock, too.
If that wasn't enough, the update also adds new daily challenges with in-game rewards, including a new item that can level up characters to Diamond, as well as a brand new unranked Championship Mode. As seems to be the norm these days, one final thing to mention is the update's stability fixes and community-inspired improvements, which include the ability to see relevant player challenges in the pause menu. We love a good stability update here at Nintendo Life.
All of this new content is available right now in NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 on Nintendo Switch; you can grab the full game digitally from the Switch eShop, or physically from retailers such as Amazon or GAME.

I purchased the first game but not the second.
Does anyone that have played both thinks the second game is better?
Does it bring about as many laughs as NBA Jam? The commentary made Jam for me and without it I'm not sure I'd enjoy it as much.
What's the catch?
It added 70 new ballers.... that’s double the last amount added.... Ewing added finally. Happy with that. Biggest surprise is Marbury being added didn’t expect that. I love this game. The duplicate in card packs annoys me... but I’ve accept I get 2 new cards per pack not 4.
@tourjeff it’s got a season mode and that add a lot of replayability.
Are all players unlockable without purchases?
I have been looking at this for a while but I have read so many conflicting reviews it’s only 15 quid at Argos im tempted but don’t wanna waste the cash if it’s no good
Getting players is a grind but the game itself is fun......players seem a little slow compared to NBA Jam but the feel of the game is similar and it was worth the $10 I paid and then some.
If you likes NBA jam or just want an arcade style basketball game I think it is a decent purchase for under $20. Just know getting the full rosters will take a lot of time
@DockEllisD So no IRL money required? Cool. Still tempted to pick this up sometime.
@DockEllisD I went bronze for ages. Even got Lebron and Kobe in same pack but when I had unlocked a certain amount I switched to silver and gold but through just bronze unlocked loads of epic and legendary but I got to the point I had unlocked pretty much all the standard and bronze packs were 3 duplicates.
I think it’s random a bit too random.
But I’m gonna stick to gold for now. As I want Jordan.
I’ve done about half of the seasons... my plan was to do all the seasons and unlock all the hidden players - one for each team and then see where I am on unlocks but the daily challenges will boost the coins I get and I’ll play the one off games more which is a good move.
I kinda hoped they put offline tournament mode back in as mixing it up between nba season and the super team formula of first game would be good.
All in all though I do think this is a good game and the nonsense about VC over shadowed launch when you don’t need to buy VC at all and if you really don’t wanna play to unlock ballers then just pay the £6 or whatever it is and have them all.
And no it’s Knicks but hopefully he’ll get added to wolves on next addition.
Shaq has been added to heat and Magic this time and James to heat and Cavs so I think it’s possible. Had hoped they’d add KG to celtics. Wilt to lakers but that didn’t happen yet.
Hoping the updates keep coming.
@gcunit yeah you don’t need money. You can dress players up in random stuff and earn coins for those packs is much harder but I’m not interested in that as I’m more than happy with players in their NBA kits classic or current - unlocking players is quite quick and rewarding but to unlock all players will take a long time. 20+ hours easy.
@DockEllisD they only added daily challenges yesterday so it’s new but will be a nice way to boost the VC. I don’t play this online so I’m only interested in offline stuff. It’s why I was happy this year when they added the offline 3pt contest.
@tourjeff didn't play the first one but had the 2nd. Thought it was ace for the first few days but then it starts to get very repetitive. I'd imagine there isn't alot of difference between the 2.
@Gs69 I picked it up last week because I too saw the Argos price... be wary because when Argos does that, its often a secret stock clearance and when its gone, its gone (I missed out on a few because I waited)
As to the game, I briefly payed the first one on pc and I liked the idea more than the execution. This one feels a lot more fun and works well as a handheld sports game (I often struggle with tiny characters in other sports games on the switch - with just 4 players on screen, these are much bigger characters). To unlock all the players would be a grind but whilst I normally hate games that push you to buy in game credit, unlocking just the players in one go is quite cheap.
For me its not a game I would sit and play for hours on end... it does get repetitive... but for a quick 15-30 min fix whilst travelling, its a great pick up and play title (for 15 quid).
Nice.
The gameplay actually is good and I have no problems with the players "packs", but the challenges to get the "real" stats sucks.
I hope this item is abundant.
The first game has kept me from buying the second.
Pressing steal on defense usually leads to no visual change on the screen. It only shows a steal animation if you time it right, otherwise you can spam the steal button and see your player not respond on screen.
NBA jam is fluid on defense, playgrounds is all offense.
Playgrounds looks good, but having played many hours of each, playgrounds is a poor imitation of Jam, and don't get me started on how bad the commentary is in playgrounds. I turn off the sound because it is so bad.
If you like arcade style sport games I recommend checking out Football heroes turbo.
It's not pretty like playgrounds, but it plays amazingly well (she's got it where it counts).
@Scottwood101 my wife and I play this together. Yes the commentary makes us laugh. What's cool is you can switch between several commentators so we'll switch them every month or so and it really helps keep the game fresh!
@cyrus_zuo I haven't played Playgrounds 1, but I can tell you that defense is critical in Playgrounds 2. You'll never win a title without good defense not even on Rookie difficulty
Is anyone is wondering, THIS GAME IS GREAT! I bought it and took it to Thanksgiving and ALL the adults loved it. My wife and I still play it 2-3 nights a week instead of watching TV. my son (7 years old) also enjoys it.
@nicols cheers for the reply just been and got it and apparently that’s just price was in stock at most stores near me I just want it for multiplayer for the most part just as an alternative to others sports games but didn’t want to pay a fortune for it and short bursts are great for me at work
