Minesweeper Genius is making its explosive debut on consoles today, blasting down the Switch eShop with the classic gameplay you'd expect from any Minesweeper-inspired release.
A modern take on the classic game of logic, Minesweeper Genius has players sweeping their way through more than 130 levels, 55 of which are "extra-difficult" stages for any Minesweeper experts lurking around. As you can see, though, this isn't your usual game of Minesweeper; instead, you'll be moving an alien-cloned Aristotle around the grid (we're not sure why, either), planting flags and using special tiles to work your way around each level.
Once you've managed to beat all of the game's levels, you can then go on to create your very own with a console-exclusive Custom Level mode. You can see it in action in the trailer above; with a mixture of procedurally-generated wizardry and your customised settings options, you can create pretty much any type of level you like.
As noted above, the game launches today on Nintendo Switch. You can pick it up for yourself for $5.99 / £4.99 / € 5.99 / 7.99 AUD.
How many hours have you put into Minesweeper over the years? Will you be picking this up for your daily commute? Tell us below.

Conceptually, this looks more like Picross but with the means to shuffle rows/columns to enable safe navigation of a grid. It looks fair.
This is a mobile game port to consoles mind you.
Not everyone have a mobile either. Like me, for me phone is enough when with it can contact people. And don't see a reason to buy mobile as long as my phone works
For the game maybe will buy.
First introduction to this game. I think this is one I might like to play but not on my switch. I have discovered a lot of good games that I would rather play on my phone just from Switch eShop like Gorogoa as well. When it comes to the mobile ports, it depends on which platform I would rather play it on, phone being more mobile, is it a pick up and roll game like if I'm waiting in line somewhere and also mobile price tends to be a lot cheaper.
@Eagle9 That's cool but you are definitely a rare exception for this day and age.
@gauthieryannick I think it's simply acknowledging the fact that it was originally built around phones so it has all sorts of design limitations that you run into with that platform which stands out on a console like the Switch.
@gauthieryannick Three main reasons for me:
1. the game has been designed with touchscreen as the control system, which limits the design and doesn’t always translate well to physical controls.
2. it is available for cheaper (or free) on mobile.
3. if the game is a decent mobile game, then I’ll play it on my phone, as it’s more portable and sits in my pocket.
@gauthieryannick How does a game also being available on mobile makes it less good or less interesting than a console exclusive?
Mobile games have a reputation of being designed around microtransactions.
I... I read that headline as though the genius behind the creation of the original Minesweeper was bringing a new version to the Switch.
@Pod Same lol this did the old bait n switch
Takes me back to the heady days of Windows 95, when life was a lot simpler. (Actually no it doesn’t)
@JayJ
Obviously, lol. I'm not as dumb as you make me sound.
I like the old Minesweeper better which I can play any time on my PC for free.
