We know that Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy is coming to Switch and other platforms very soon (21st February in Japan). It first collected all of the original games in one glorious package on mobile before gracing the 3DS with its objection perfection.
Gematsu has posted some HD screens of the upcoming port, and - blimey Charlie! - they're pretty startling to anyone who's only played these games on an original DS, or even further back on Game Boy Advance. Just look at all these pixels:
The collection includes the original trilogy that introduced the plucky lawyer to the world back in 2001's Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, followed quickly by Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Justice For All, and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Trials & Tribulations. There's a whole bunch more examples over at Gematsu - head over to check them out on an HD monitor and be amazed how far we've come!
At what miniscule resolution did you first play the Phoenix Wright series? Are you excited to revisit them in HD? Drop us a comment below.

Wait WHAT!? When did this get announced!? I'm gonna pick this up. I've always wanted to try this series.
I prefer the original sprites. These are too clean.
Really looking forward to seeing what an Ace Attorney game built with the Switch's hardware specs in mind looks like, though. Spirit of Justice on 3DS had really fluid animations and detailed character models, and it felt like it was pushing against the limits of what the system could comfortably offer.
@MysticGengar last year during TGS
im excited to try out the games, i've loved the anime (i haven't seen the sequel to that anime yet.)
Already have the games on 3DS, but if you haven’t tried them yet they are a must-play on any system!
I'll probably want to check these out whenever they release in the West, depending on the price. I've been meaning to get into the series for a while now.
Already have it on 3DS but glad to see many others will get to try it out. It's on PS4 and XBone too.
@MysticGengar : The physical retail version in Japan also has English if you're keen on importing.
I think it has lost some of its charm with these updated graphics. The GBA/DS games looks much better IMO.
@Ralizah SoJ looks really good. So does the graphics in Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney.
@Silly_G
Good to know, but I am not gonna pay an insane amount for shipping.
Lol here comes a new Challenger. More rereleases than street fighter 2. At least they aren't splitting it up like they did with megaman vs the previous ps2 collections.
I'm sure this release will be used as test bed for a new AA game. Looking forward to something new preferably...
I imagine this is using the same assets as previous mobile versions, which used cleaned up original artwork which was adapted into the sprites for the original GBA version.
But everything else about it looks really sleek, even the choice of font for the UI is good.
I have this on pre-order from Play-Asia, the Japanese version has English language included, just like the DS games did!
Not sure if the US release is getting the physical treatment.
Even though the wiiware versions are riddled with grammar screwups (as most AA games are), the scaled sprites have a certain charm to them, it's unfortunate to see that gone here.
Though not as bad as Apollo on the 3DS with the blurry text and scaled down graphics.
They're fantastic except most of JfA. Seriously, Turnabout Big Top can gtfo
Played these on the DS. But haven’t played them since. Personally, I’m okay with the HD graphics. It was never really the visuals beyond the zany look to characters and their expressions. It was always the story and characters themselves and their interactions. As long as that’s the same, it’s all good
Always wanted to play one of these! Looking forward to the Switch version.
Played the carts on DS. My childhood favorite games!
Never liked the HD upscalery of the AA series, me. There is something pure and genuine about the pixel aesthetic, warts and all. At least it's not trapped behind the sub-HD limitations of the 3DS anymore.
Looking forward to this trilogy! Was borrowing the second and third entries from a friend for DS, and they fell into backlog status. May as well wait it out for Switch.
I guess I'm one of those elitist purists, but...I weirdly prefer the more jagged sprites from the original GBA/DS entries. Sure, they looked a bit on the raw side, but they conveyed a lot of feeling and character without looking lofi or dated. These new screens, though - the cleaned up style just looks very sterile and soulless to me. Generic, even.
I'll probably still get it though.
I remember NintendoLife giving these games a 5/10 on WiiWare indicating they were horrible games with no enjoyment factor to be had - simply because they were straight ports and not full remakes.
I'll be happily picking these up too.
@nessisonett I hated that chapter so much that I had to take a break from the game. I cannot stand circuses so that didnt help either.
I tried Ace Attorney on the Wii but it was just too pixelated to really enjoy. This looks a lot better.
The real question is how many frames of animation do the characters have in this. I recall playing the 3DS ports of the trilogy and they had cut out some frames compared to the DS versions, making things look choppier despite the cleaner sprites.
The updated graphics look a little weird but it's a small price to pay to have the best video game series ever on the Switch.
@Justaguest Seriously, who keeps clowns in business?
I'd rather have Ghost Trick.
Or at least as much. I love both AA and Ghost Trick.
As long as I can get a physical copy on the PS4, heck yeah, I'm buying!
I much prefer the look of the GBA/DS versions. I will get this collection nontheless, probably for Xbox One.
I hope there will be a second collection with Apollo, Dual Destinies and Spirit of Justice.
Looks good. It's nice for those who have yet to own these great games, but there's no reason for anyone to double dip if they already own the trilogy on 3DS or even the individual DS releases.
Ow man. Already have this on DS, 3DS, Wii and now need to get it on Switch. That music gets me so pumped. Love this game.
I literally just finished Trials and Tribulations on the 3DS last week! Definitely my favourite of the trilogy I think, but don't think I'll be picking this up. Might pick up Apollog Justice, Dual Destinies and Spirit of Justice on 3DS instead though
Looks exactly the same sans sprites.
Instead of releasing the first 3 games over and over again, they rather should bring the games that the west has missed, like that investigation game or the 2 Ace attorney games with Sherlock!!
As for me: Almost finished the first one. After that going straight for game 2.
