Bandai Namco has shared a brand new trailer for the upcoming Super Robot Wars T on Nintendo Switch, giving us an extended look at its gameplay and characters.
Perhaps the most notable thing about the trailer is that it fully introduces the game's original mecha and characters. A Japanese website for the characters has also appeared providing a little more info, revealing that Tiranade - a mecha - was designed by Japanese anime artist Hidetaka Tenjin, along with the names and descriptions for human characters Tokitou Saizou, Sakurai Sagiri, Amasaki Rami, all of which were designed by Nisieda.
In November last year, we were treated to a collection of utterly gorgeous screenshots for the game which had us watering at the mouth; we're happy to report that the footage above looks just as lovely. The trailer is entirely in Japanese, but you can still get a decent sense of the action even without understanding the dialogue.
The game is scheduled to launch in Japan on Switch on 20th March; a Southeast Asian release (Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Indonesia) is also planned for the same day with English language support. You can see more about this in the similarly lengthy trailer below.
Are you excited for this one? Are you hoping to snap up a copy of the English version when available? Let us know in the comments.

all these Japanese games look the same
I do like giant robots. May have to check this out.
Would love to get this in an english version. Do you have any tips or sites i could use to get the game?
I still don't get it, all they show is the finishing moves (well i think), what's the gameplay like???
@Spoony_Tech
11 minutes, still no gameplay.
I'm assuming it's one of those turn based strategy board games like Advance Wars - and that would be fine - but that's simply a guess.
I'm only here cause I'm a sucker for G Gundam.
Seeing this makes me want Project X Zone for the Switch. Loved that game
TAKE THIS MY LOVE, MY ANGER AND ALL MY SORROW! ( Love G Gundam if you couldn't tell)
Day 1 purchase for this little guy.
@rjejr And I quote:
"Bandai Namco has shared a brand new trailer for the upcoming Super Robot Wars T on Nintendo Switch, giving us an extended look at its gameplay and characters."
It would seem like you've overlooked something...
I clearly saw more than enough gameplay in there. All the side-on stuff that you see in the videos is gameplay footage.
@rjejr @Bunkerneath
Grid and turn based strategy game ( a glimpse of the grid at 7:30).
You move and select attacks in menus, all of those animation in this trailer is what you see for each attack.
It's easier to watch a little of a let's play for a previous game (the Original Generation got 2 games in GBA and PlayStation 2, both with Western release).
@ThanosReXXX Well it may be "game play" footage, as in footage that occurs during the game, but there's nothing in there that shows specifically if this is a touch screen mobile game, a match 3 game, a turn based RPG, a menu driven JRPG, or a button mashing mosuo game. There are no menus or control prompts. Seeing what happens on the screen doesn't really show you how it's played.
Imagine seeing a trailer for a 3DS game, but only seeing the top screen. Hard to know what kind of game it is.
@rjejr Well, it would seem to me that it is a turn-based strategy game. The setup and gameplay reminds me of the old SNES Final Fantasy games. Knowing the series, that's more than likely also what it is. It most definitely isn't going to be a match four game...
They may not show any on screen prompts, commands or whatever, but it's pretty clear to me.
In any case, there most certainly IS gameplay footage in that video, which was basically all I'm saying.
By the way: best wishes for the New Year. Forgot to tag you last week...
@ThanosReXXX Happy New Year to you too. I've been sick since Jan 2nd, just a head + chest cold, nothing serious, so the year isn't off to a good start. Still have a bit of fogginess I suppose which may be why my brain isn't comprehending this game very well.
@RandomLeo00 "a glimpse of the grid at 7:30"
The ship w/ the blue diamond over it at 7:50? I thought that was the selection screen for which ship you want to bring into battle.
So, the "extended look" at game play is a 3 second glimpse of the board in an 11 minute video? No wonder I missed it. Thanks for pointing it out, never would have guessed. Well I mean I guessed it's one of those, which they never show well, but I coudln't guess where the meat of the game play was.
I thought poorly selling 3DS turn based strategy game Codename STEAM was real time action for about 6 months after seeing this trailer. I thought it was basically a cell-shaded 1886 The Order. I was so bummed when I finally realized my mistake I never played it.
I think that War Tech Fighters will scratch the mech itch more than this will
@rjejr Ah, that sucks. Well, hope you get better soon, then.
But as for Code Name STEAM: I love that game, man. It may not be the best of the best, but still more than entertaining enough to earn its place in my 3DS game library.
Then again: I've got several similar type games on my 3DS, so it may just be a favorite genre thing for me...
I am not up with the times here but how the heck is cowboy bebop involved with this?! I think that’s GREAT! I’m intrigued by this game, oh yes I am. I dont quite understand how it’s actually going to be played/controlled but everything else looks so cool!
@ThanosReXXX It's a good genre. I actually only started playing it with Advance Wars clone Mecho Wars on PS3, then I played AW on Wii U as VC.
Here's the trailer for MW. It's only 54 seconds but it has more "game play" - moving on the board, selecting options - than these 11 and 9 minute trailers combined.
Just makes me want more news on the new Sakura Wars on Switch.
Robot WarsT, DAEMON and ANTHEM... I'll have every type of Big robot design at my fingertips. Good times!
They should all get LE versions with Art Books 😃😊
This is awesome! I am definetly getting this when the English translation! Also, I asked Nintendo if we can have Star Wars The Old Republic MMO on Nintendo Switch! I hipe it works out! But I'm hoping!
@rjejr Hey! Haven't you learned ANYTHING about me, in the last couple of years? Why are you showing me Sony-related footage?
Aarrggh!! My eyes, my eyes...
Aura Battler Dunbine AGAIN?
Geez, switch things up, Bamco.
Why "T"?
Why "T"?!?!
So Japanese.
Imagine my surprise when I learnt that my fav anime and manga, Magic Knight Rayearth, would be represented in this game! I know nothing of Super Robot Wars but a chance to have Rayearth stuff on my Switch? SOLD.
GaGaGa GaGaGa GaoGaiGar!
GaGaGa Fightin' GaoGaiGar!
In all honesty, I'd love to play a game with all these Robos...but I'm not sure the gameplay is my kinda thing.
I'll be honest, main reason I clicked on the article is because I saw Magic Knight Rayearth.
That's a blast from the past right there.
@rjejr Going by past games I believe you are correct. I would get this but rather have War Groove and just got Into the Breach so I'm good there for a while.
@Zeraki Hell, its the only reason I'm getting the English version.... XD
@rjejr not the best video I could find in my own uploads but this is more or less how the gameplay looks like, first one is SRW: Original Generations: The Moon Dwellers
Most SRW game all play the same in the end.
This is SRW Z3-2 on PS3
I'll try it if english version is on eshop.
That thumbnail was cruel NintendoLife... v.v
I'd LOVE to see a Magic Knight Rayearth game some day (they actually made one for the SNES and it's quite good, but I feel like they could do more with the franchise).
Almost thought this was Saint Seyia from looking at that pic.
Olay, so somehow this insanity has been going on since 1994 and I never heard about it until last year. Seriously, it's been on every console and handheld ever made, and featured every anime you could possibly work into a game that is basically about giant robots fighting.
What have I been doing with my life?
@Majormatt28 "See you Space Cowboy..."
@Spoony_Tech Dont' know either of those but will look into them. The one pick I saw of War Groove reminded me of Sword & Soldiers 1 so that's a plus.
@rjejr It's nothing like S&S. It's almost exactly like Advance Wars.
Unfortunately it looks like this is going to be pretty pricey, the price is currently 7776¥ on Amazon.jp and even higher on Playasia. I want it but I'm not sure I want it that much.
@Spoony_Tech Bummer. I really liked S&S 1. S&S 2 not so much.
@ThanosReXXX So, "New year, new you" wasn't one of your New Years' resolutions? 😂
Loved Super Robot Wars V, but this lineup doesn't appeal to me. V had the best cast in quite a while.
@rjejr Nah, I don't do New Year's resolutions. I plan what I want to plan, or resolve on whatever date I choose. Waiting until the end/beginning of a year seem rather ridiculous to me.
But as you know, I adhere to the three strike rule, so that's never going to change, and what's done is done.
I played the hell out of these Super Robot Taisen games back in the Saturn / PS2 / GCN days living in Japan. Ah, glory days...
I think I'll import this for old times' sake. These games are huge time sinks, but a real treat for mecha anime fans. As usual I'll be powering up my fave robots and pilots and mostly ignoring those from shows I've never watched.
I'm psyched to see Capt. Harlock in there, though I wish they used his original voice actor. I almost wish they picked Space Cruiser Yamato instead, but that might be controversial outside of Japan.
@ThanosReXXX I used to have rules like that. 1 strike rule, 2 strike rule - fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me - and the 3 strike rule - once or twice may be an accident, 3 is incompetence, gross negligence or some other non-pardonable offense - but now. Now. Now I just expect lousy service, broken products, bad experiences, and who every apologizes the best afterward continues to get my business. And some companies dont' even apologize anymore so it's not who has the best apology, it's who simply apologizes. B/c apologies are a sign of weakness, or admission of guilt, so even that is becoming a rarity. It just keeps getting worse and worse. So old rules have to go out the window otherwise there's nothing left. They've won.
@rjejr Nah.... they still lose. Only the Mad Titan wins, regardless of the Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain Marvel and what not. Sony can't even stand in their shadow...
But in all seriousness: I actually like your perspective, but Sony never did apologize or do anything to improve their service and/or repair the damages to me. In two of the three issues I've had with them, they either blamed me, or took so long to handle my case, that I had to decide if I still wanted the device in question to be repaired, because the necessary damages paid would now fall outside the warranty period, not because I sent it in too late, but because they mis-archived, lost, or simply stalled my specific case, and that to me was unforgivable.
And then the last straw was them taking down my go to international video gaming gimmick and apparel site, as I already told you a couple years back, so far as I'm concerned, that's that, forever.
There's far more brands and companies besides Sony, so I'm good either way. I only have one Sony device left in my house. Damn radio alarm clock that I bought somewhere in the early 90's just won't friggin' die on me...
@ThanosReXXX "Damn radio alarm clock that I bought somewhere in the early 90's just won't friggin' die on me..."
Ya know, they just don't make stuff like they used too.
Sony or anyone else actually. Built for size, built at speed, not built to last. Well outlast the warranty by a month, but that's about it.
@rjejr Unfortunately that's all too true. Even the most expensive TV's are, on average, built to only last around 5 years max. I see it in my own TV. And it was already an older model, but I did buy it 6 years ago, and by now, light blue smudges are randomly appearing all over the screen, logos and subtitles/headers and what not are more or less burnt-in, so I should look for a new one, but my current budget won't allow for it, so here's hoping that it will last a bit longer, until I do have the spare cash, because I'm not going to get some cheapo TV, just because.
When you do it, better do it right from the get go, otherwise I'll have all kinds of issues on my hands, with gaming lag and what not...
@ThanosReXXX We've been lucky, our current tv may have just turned 9. Of course it cost about $1,200 when it was new, 52" 1080p Sharp, so it should last, but I've been waiting for it to go "any day" for a couple of years now, b/c as you say 5 years is about average. My wife has hated the look on every 4k tv she has seen, too "Soap opera", so she wont' let me buy a new one until thsi one dies. We had a nice 32" before that which I replaced not b/c it died, but b/c it was DVI, not HDMI, so I couidlnt' hook up anything to it just a few years after I bought it. It's in my sons room now mostly collecting dust, though occasionally he'll play a Wii game on it.
At least the HDMI connector seems to be sticking around going from 2.0 to 2.1, so that's one less thing to worry about.
@rjejr A Sharp lasting long? Well, haven't had too many good experiences with these either. Nowadays, all my video-related appliances are either LG or Panasonic. The former for media and recording devices, and the latter always for the screens, simply because they are the best there is, both in deep blacks and color vibrancy.
When I bought my current TV, a 42" Full HD plasma screen, I paid €999 for it, but considering it was already a model of a few years old, I assume that the initial price would have been more or less along the lines of what you paid for yours.
The downside is, both with current models and newer TV's, that besides the odd "game mode", they never really seem to cater to gamers with more than that, so even though that option, when available, is usually pretty good, they don't even stop to think that people might have multiple consoles, besides their digital TV box or media player, and/or Bluray player.
My current TV has 2 SCART inputs, 1 composite, 1 component, 1 VGA and 3 HDMI inputs. All of them are occupied, except for the VGA port, because I got a smaller TV for my Dreamcast and GameCube, which were also hooked to the big one initially.
But the 3 HDMI ports are just too few. Got my Set top box, Bluray recorder/media player and on the third port, I added an HDMI hub,
so I could simultaneously have the Xbox 360, Wii U and Xbox One S connected.
But... on the 28th of December, I finally got my Switch, but seeing as I only have a simple, 3 output ports hub, I didn't have any other inputs left, so now the Switch is temporarily connected to the TV box input (actually meant for media and set top boxes) on my Xbox One S, meaning that if
I want to play my Switch on the TV, I'll have to boot up the Xbox One S, switch to it's TV channel, and then I can display the Switch on the TV.
I did the same on occasion, when I used the Nintendo Minis, also with the Xbox One as a relay station...
So, once the money's in at the end of the month, we're going to buy a bigger HDMI hub, so I can accommodate all of my consoles, and give them all their own port/input.
But that's this TV. Newer models don't even have SCART or VGA ports, so I'll probably end up having to buy several HDMI converters, and an even bigger HDMI hub.
Well, it's either that or putting away several of my consoles, something
I just don't see myself doing, because the trouble of having to take them out of storage and set them up just to play a game or two whenever I feel like it, is too annoying for me, which would mean I'd ultimately just let them gather dust/rot away somewhere in a closet, and that just doesn't sit well with me.
@ThanosReXXX Can I retro-con a thread?
That Mecho Wars game I showed you a trailer for comes out on Switch tomorrow. Or today. Or Friday. So now we can pretend I just showed you a Switch game and not a Sony one.
@rjejr (breathes a sigh of relief)....
@ThanosReXXX If you'd like I can send you some links to the new Gillettee ad or the Assassins Creed "forced to have a baby" DLC articles to get you back into raging titan mode.
I'm thinking of updating my name to woke_rjejr_sjw just for sh1tz & giggles. I tried adding snowflake in there somewhere but it messes up the rhythm. 🤣
@rjejr I'm already in raging Titan mode, except the excited version of it.
Getting hyped up for that Mortal Kombat live event in half an hour...
@ThanosReXXX Yeah, that seems to be a thing that's happening today. 2D fighters have never been my thing. Hopefully at least for those who care it will be the real deal and not one of those bait and switch moments where they just have 30 minutes of music then tell everyone to tune in next week for the real reveal. Lot of that going around these days.
Glad to see you excited for something that. Enjoy.
@rjejr Well, it is called "Mortal Kombat 11 - The Reveal", so I think we're safe...
Also, NLife listed what will be shown, and it is supposed to go in depth considerably, even hosting a live MK pro vs MK pro fighting match, so I'm curious enough to give it a go.
Mind you, I'm not THAT big of a Mortal Kombat fan, but I did always enjoy the games, for the most part. And nowadays, they're actually 2.5D fighters, since all is rendered in 3D, and some of the action/moves, are also done in full 3D, so it's a nice compromise/mix between actual 2D and full-on 3D fighters.
And I just like the cheesy, WAY over the top finishing moves. And the mini games. Here's hoping these are still in there. Or perhaps they've changed everything around again. Yet another reason to watch, far as I'm concerned.
P.S.
What does the "woke" in your potentially new name stand for?
@ThanosReXXX "woke"
Damned if I know. My guess is the new name for "tree-hugger" but that's just a guess. It's whatever the new Gillette ad is. Or Gillette itself. Or Brad Pitt.
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/woke
@rjejr So, it just means aware, and actively involved in social issues.
I think I'd prefer "wookie" instead...
