From indie developer Kool2Play, IHUGU is set to launch on Nintendo Switch next week. There's none of your typical fighting, battling, or zombie survival antics to be seen here, though, as this game is all about hugging.
The rules are refreshingly simple, tasking players with hugging everyone they meet, but only once. Essentially, IHUGU is a memory game where you'll need to use quick thinking to remember who you've already hugged, and who you need to avoid. Naturally, the game is aimed at players who want an easy-going puzzle experience, although some challenge is said to be provided in mastering your score.
The game actually appeared on Steam back in 2017 (hence the PC cursor in the trailer above), but the Switch version comes with its own exclusive feature. This little feature is a local multiplayer option which sees players challenging each other to a memory competition, rather than chasing individual high scores. The first player to hug a character who has already been hugged loses.
Features:
- A unique game about hugging that challenges both memory and reflexes alike
- Hundreds of different characters
- Character editor (mix different heads with the rest of the body, with over twenty thousand freaky mixes to reveal)
- Ten unique, colourful, and hilarious environments
- Several minigames and lots of interesting extras
- Competitive multiplayer mode – exclusively on Nintendo Switch
- Funny ’80s TV mode – experience the game as if playing on an ancient TV
IHUGU will be available directly from the Nintendo Switch eShop from 21st January for $3.99.
Will you be getting your hug on next week? Make sure to spread the love in the comments section below.

Is that... Trump?
I have several questions...
@MysticGengar Love trumps hate...
WWE Bailey: The Game #ImAHugger
If Trump is not building a wall no sale for me. 😛.....or maybe just hugging a wall instead. 😂
Looks more like chest-bumping to me. Also appears to have 0 boss battles.
Trump.
Grab em by the huggy
I an tired of the huge amount of indies, its time for bigger games, port or new either way its fine. But not all this could be mobile stuff tbh
i wish more strangers would hug instead of always do an emotionless handshake when meeting. lol
@Folkloner lol yeah. Also see a lot of "New Day" flashing on the screen. The power of positivity!
"Funny ’80s TV mode – experience the game as if playing on an ancient TV". I'm from the 80s too... So, does that mean I'm ancient...? 😉
I would say the game is fun, but it doesn't seem like. Guess I'll pass
Clearly @rjejr has not looked in here lol.
@Spoony_Tech You know I don't do indies, especially pixelated ones. But since you summoned me here let's see. hmm, yeah, ok got it.
Game needs razor blade DLC sponsored by Gillette so you don't scratch the people you hug w/ your 5 o'clock shadow. 😂
How's that? 😎
Watched the vid, I always watch the vid after I comment, and I don't understand how people charge for this stuff, looks like a free flash game from 2005. smh They should make this the first MyNintneod rewards Switch game, 60 platinum coins. I still have my free 80 point Wiiware game where you bbq using scissors or something, only played it once long ago, you can't expect me to remember.
With the huge amount of indie games releasing each week why does this crappy looking $3.99 mobile game that's been out for a couple of years and has hardly any reviews get its own article while far better looking games get completley ignored?
@rjejr Bonsai Barber? You had to prune vegetables in it but I don't remember there being any barbecues. I really enjoyed that game.
Developers: can we get back to designing actual games? At some point? I would really appreciate it. Thank you.
I'm tired of games. When are games?
Hugging and/or cuddling has become a vital part of my Switch playing experience. I like that multiplayer mode idea, though the game seems a bit barebones.
Also Trump looks like a good hugger, being a Snorlax with a bad haircut in shape.
@OorWullie No, not bansai barber, but I was thinking about that one while I was writing up my description. Since you asked so nice I'll go look.
Here we go, "Grill-Off w/ Ultra Hand!". Name sounds like an episode of Power Rangers but it wasn't that good.
